Enough to prompt a neighbour to call police?

If Boris Johnson murdered in plain sight, there are apologists here who would excuse it as a Remainer plot.

Their twisted minds are more alarming than Johnson's morals.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 24/06/2019 10:06

Woman’s Hour has just broadcast a joint statement from domestic abuse charities - saying people shouldn’t be afraid to take action if they think someone is at risk ...

CoolCarrie · 24/06/2019 10:08

Boris the Cocklodger indeed! We should all start calling him that on here.

Ladymargarethall · 24/06/2019 10:08

Agreed, but that doesn't include sending the tape to a national newspaper.

Alsohuman · 24/06/2019 10:10

Why not? It’s in the public interest.

Zipee · 24/06/2019 10:11

"Agreed, but that doesn't include sending the tape to a national newspaper."

It would have happened for any other politician, why should Boris be the exception. Other politicians get hauled over hot coals over stuff they did before politics!

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 24/06/2019 10:13

The guy has an absolute gift for self-sabotage. This has been evidenced not only in this leadership contest, but the way he bowed out of the last one (at which time questions were raised about whether his political credibility would ever recover again). The pertinent question is this: if he's so good at doing this to himself, what's he likely to do to the country?

It's a legitimate question to ask about a possible future PM.

Viciousrooster · 24/06/2019 10:13

Johnson made her situation worse. The Iranian authorities quoted his ill-thought out remarks in their statement about the increased sentence. That's on him

Bullshit. Just a convenient excuse for the Iranians to do what they were always going to do. The simple fact that they would use the fact that she was training journalists as an excuse for an increased PRISON sentence is proof of that.

BertrandRussell · 24/06/2019 10:14

“Agreed, but that doesn't include sending the tape to a national newspaper.“
There are two completely separate issues.

Concern for the potential victim of domestic violence- contact the police.

Concern about the psychological suitability of a potential Prime Minister-contact the press.

darthbreakz · 24/06/2019 10:27

I hate him and he will get elected and he'll be an embarrassment for our country - which he is anyway, only it'll be magnified because he'll be PM. It's yet another act of self-harmfrom the conservative party that will affect not only them but the entire country.

That said, there's no evidence as far as I can tell of violence here and he's had a bloody massive row with his partner, who has called him a spoilt brat, essentially (which isn't new information, is it?!)

Yes he'll be an embarrassment - more so if he's going to have loud domestic arguements from Number 10 - but I don't think this is that much of an issue in the grand scheme of things. Most people have had blow out rows with their SOs at some point (hope that isn't just me). I think this is almost being portrayed as Boris being the agressor by definition and tbh, a lot of what is in the public domain sounds like his girlfriend has, quite understandably, had enough of him. He probably doesn't want to talk about it because she told him some home truths that he doesn't want his electorate to know about - i.e. he's a selfish fool who has no regard for money.

Smokeonthewater · 24/06/2019 10:30

Pic of them having a loved up Mel in a pub this weekend. Just a coincidence of course that the press were there...

Smokeonthewater · 24/06/2019 10:30

Meal!

Bourdic · 24/06/2019 10:38

But surely the photograph is an invasion of privacy 😱😱😱

ralfeesmum · 24/06/2019 10:40

I can't think how his wife (or is it ex-wife now?) Marina put up with this mysoginistic third-rate Casanova all this time.

Zipee · 24/06/2019 10:40

"Bullshit. Just a convenient excuse for the Iranians to do what they were always going to do."

Not at all, they cited his comments when extending the sentence, if he hadn't said anything its likely that nothing would have happened.

Desperately scrabbling for excuses now and its laughable.

Dapplegrey · 24/06/2019 10:45

Apparently Class War activists are now demonstrating outside
Carrie’s flat so I hope she has got somewhere safe to live for the time being.

DioneTheDiabolist · 24/06/2019 10:52

They were always going to imprison her.

They had already imprisoned her. Boris's job was to get her out, instead he got her sentence increased Viciousrooster.

Alsohuman · 24/06/2019 10:57

Those Class War activists are vile. Carrie Symonds has now been basically forced out of her own home now. Perhaps they could send Mark Field along to get rid of them.

DarlingNikita · 24/06/2019 11:11

"Agreed, but that doesn't include sending the tape to a national newspaper."

The fact that the police initially tried to conceal the incident justifies, IMO, the newspaper having the story.

Dapplegrey · 24/06/2019 11:20

I’m surprised the police tried to conceal the incident - normally they are the ones informing the press.
For example Euan Blair getting drunk after he’d finished his exams.

Viciousrooster · 24/06/2019 11:20

*Not at all, they cited his comments when extending the sentence, if he hadn't said anything its likely that nothing would have happened.

Desperately scrabbling for excuses now and its laughable*

What's laughable is that you think that her punishment, increased or otherwise, was genuinely linked to what Johnson said. Nothing to do of course with the £450 million the Iranians are demanding from a failed arms deal dating from the Shah era, money which they desperately need due to international sanctions.

Even the Iranian Ambassador (only 4 days ago) has admitted Johnson's comments made no difference. Her husband thinks differently of course. But in his position, so would I.

Dapplegrey · 24/06/2019 11:21

Those Class War activists are vile
Yes they certainly are. However the neighbours who recorded the row must be rubbing their hands with glee.

Zipee · 24/06/2019 11:31

"What's laughable is that you think that her punishment, increased or otherwise, was genuinely linked to what Johnson said. "

Except that the Iranian's cited his comments when they extended the sentence. He publically contradicted her defence that she was not working in Iran at the time she was arrested/abducted. The charges, and the trial, came days after Johnson made the statements.

What's laughable is that you excuse him all the time.

Peregrina · 24/06/2019 11:34

Even the Iranian Ambassador (only 4 days ago) has admitted Johnson's comments made no difference.

Yes, but his comments should have made a difference - he should have been exercising behind the scenes diplomacy to get Nazarin released. Don't forget also that there is a little girl involved who hasn't been able to see her father for a few years, and has now forgotten how to speak English.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 24/06/2019 11:37

Of course his comments made a difference they gave legitimacy to an illegitimate situation. The Iranians could pretend their actions were justified because the bloody FS had backed up their bullshit because he didn’t care enough to read his brief.
