Couples holding hands is really cheesy beyond the teenage years

I've been watching several episodes of Escape to the Country (please don't judge me too harshly). Almost all the couples clutch each others hands on the sofa and cling on to one another for dear life when they're trundling around the countryside with lovely Alistair, Nicki Chapman or Jules.

Do you think it's a bit cheesy? The Obamas, the Macrons, Harry & Meghan, the Clooneys - all serial offenders.

Are you long term single?

swashbucklecheer · 21/06/2019 18:10

Nope

VivienneHolt · 21/06/2019 18:11

I think it’s lovely. Once the affection goes in a relationship, what’s the point?

WhoEatsPopTarts · 21/06/2019 18:12

Don’t be daft, I’ve been married for 20 years and love holding my DH’s hand.

HamptonLucy · 21/06/2019 18:12

Are you long term single?

No. Are you?

You’d hate us then.

origamiunicorn · 21/06/2019 18:13

No I think it's lovely. Not enough love in the world anyway let's not snuff it out.

HamptonLucy · 21/06/2019 18:13

Once the affection goes in a relationship

Other - some would say better ways - of showing affection.

Some people like it, even though I don’t I don’t have a problem with other people doing it.

Readytogogogo · 21/06/2019 18:14

Does it matter what other people do?

teyem · 21/06/2019 18:14

It's fine. It's not like they're snogging on the park bench.

TinselTimes · 21/06/2019 18:14

No, I think it’s nice.

TropicPlunder · 21/06/2019 18:14

We do this in our 30s/40s, seems normal. Wouldn't think anything of it if people don't either

mbosnz · 21/06/2019 18:14

I've been holding DH's hand since we were teenagers. We're now well in our forties. It's habit. (It's also great for helping me during a bout of vertigo). We don't do it or not do it based on what other people think. We do it because we love each other, and are used to the physical expression of care. And will hopefully be still doing it in our eighties. Onlookers can think what they like. And we'll keep on holding the hand of the one we love. Smile

HalloumiGus · 21/06/2019 18:15

Not trying to be mean but I do find your view a bit strange. I love holding DH's hand or arm when we're walking. It's actually one of the small pleasures of being married.

Palegreenstars · 21/06/2019 18:15

What are your approved ways of showing affection?

sluj · 21/06/2019 18:15

What a strange post. What could be "cheesy" about a couple of pensioners holding hands? Or any age group?

Alsohuman · 21/06/2019 18:15

My parents held hands in their 90s, brings a lump to my throat to think of it.

mbosnz · 21/06/2019 18:16

Other - some would say better ways - of showing affection.

Well sure, but I think there are laws against those in public. . .

Hithere12 · 21/06/2019 18:16

cling on to one another for dear life when they're trundling around the countryside

That made me laugh 😂 my partner is much more cuddly that I am, I can see your point OP.

Magmatic80 · 21/06/2019 18:16

What’s another, better way of showing affection in public? Genuinely interested, can’t think of one!

RickJames · 21/06/2019 18:16

I love holding hands! With DS, with DH, with my mum.. anyone suitable.
It's friendly and reassuring YABU!

HamptonLucy · 21/06/2019 18:16

What are you doing on MN?!

Whisky2014 · 21/06/2019 18:18

I don't see it as cheesy at all. What a weird thing to think. Couples hold hands.
Do you not touch your partner op?

Readytogogogo · 21/06/2019 18:18

What are you doing on MN?!

You have a point!
