What do you think of astrology?

Posting in AIBU for traffic. Not the mystic meg astrology, but birth charts, rising, sun, moon etc. I'm a Scorpio rising, Virgo cusp/libra sun and Taurus moon- after looking up what they meant they're strangely accurate Grin just curious to know!

OP posts:

Also, I'm prepared to bet my mother wasn't at your birth. WinkGrin

MissConductUS · 13/05/2020 16:57

Carl Sagan had the last word on astrology.

Iflyaway · 13/05/2020 17:01

Well, I'd much rather study Astrology than believe some of the shite that gets trotted out on here regularly...…

I promise you that there is someone out there willing to love you the way you deserve to be loved

Yep. That's why every woman in the world is all loved up!

Hmm
Roselilly36 · 13/05/2020 17:04

Oscar Cainer’s report for 2020, that was published in the Daily Mail online in Dec 19, turned out to be very accurate with another major event predicted for June 20.

everybodysang · 13/05/2020 17:06

I enjoy reading my horoscope in a magazine. But I think it's an absolute load of old shite.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 13/05/2020 17:23

@Roselilly36

Go on, then, share the link...

BlackForestCake · 13/05/2020 17:37

Periods follow lunar cycles for a start

Why doesn't every woman in the world get her period at the same time then?

MissConductUS · 13/05/2020 18:45

Is this the "very accurate" prediction you alluded to Rose?

Whether it's within governments, the financial sector or the Royal Family, we can expect sudden changes that surprise us all.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 13/05/2020 18:50

@Roselilly36

Is that the right link? You seem to have sent some vague mystical-sounding waffle rather than any accurate predictions.

Theeighthelephant · 13/05/2020 18:58

Can anyone explain how astrology actually works? How exactly does the position of planets affect our personalities and futures?

MissConductUS · 13/05/2020 19:02

How exactly does the position of planets affect our personalities and futures?

See the Carl Sagan video I linked above. He explains it perfectly.

StoneofDestiny · 13/05/2020 19:05

No rational mind would have any tolerance of it

PlinkiePlonk · 13/05/2020 21:42

I have a friend who’s job is to write the weekly star signs and ‘personalised’ reports regarding which moon or star is rising for which star sign. He has a language degree. I would therefore go with utter bunkem.

mouldysprouts · 13/05/2020 22:15

Not more like... 1 in 12 perhaps?

Christ, I pity the other 11 who are sharing the shit experience the last 55 years have been then.

Lweji · 13/05/2020 22:20

involving the planetary heavyweights Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter

Pluto is hardly a weight, let alone heavy.

SallyWD · 13/05/2020 22:22

Absolute rubbish. My mums friend does the astrology column for a well known magazine each week. She admitted she makes it all up!

mecabag · 13/05/2020 22:23

I love astrology and believe wholeheartedly. I’ve found over the years mumsnet is not the place for deep spirited / deep thinkers so you won’t spark much of a conversation on here about such ‘nonsense’ 😂

Theeighthelephant · 13/05/2020 22:31

Yeah, believing made up bullshit is for 'deep thinkers.' Hmm

queenMab99 · 13/05/2020 22:36

The western system is symbolic, the stars/planet's are no longer in the positions assigned to them,. The eastern system Jyotich, the study of light, is far more scientific, in that astronomy and astrology are combined, the significance of the movements of the bodies within the universe, are debatable, but at least you are studying the actual movements, and not some ancient positions from ages ago.

Thewitcher · 13/05/2020 23:13

I once met someone who said she would never be friends with someone of a certain star sign, can't remember which one. Mad.

BelfryBat · 13/05/2020 23:15

Fun and harmless only so long as you don’t believe it.

DollyDoneMore · 13/05/2020 23:37

Fucking bollocks.

F0RESTGRUMP · 14/05/2020 00:04

“Deep thinkers” 🙄

That just about sums it up doesn’t it. Whether it’s believers in “spirit” bleating about being “sensitive” or “spiritual” or gullible fools thinking that the positions of the planets affect people’s personalities, they all like to think they’re just so much more special than mere mortals.

In actual fact of course their thinking is about as deep as a puddle.

lesleyw1953 · 14/05/2020 00:11

You need the time and place of birth for an "accurate" reading. Which means that someone born on the dates associated with one sign may actually be more influenced by a different sign.
