Posting in AIBU for traffic. Not the mystic meg astrology, but birth charts, rising, sun, moon etc. I'm a Scorpio rising, Virgo cusp/libra sun and Taurus moon- after looking up what they meant they're strangely accurate Grin just curious to know!

OP posts:
mayaginger · 12/05/2020 05:57

It's about as believable as the man in the moon.

LellyMcKelly · 12/05/2020 05:59

Look up the Barnum/Forer effect.

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/05/2020 06:00

I don’t believe in the type of horoscopes which say all Leo’s will meet a tall stranger or Aries are going to be told a secret.

I do my charts based on the exact time, date and place of birth.

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/05/2020 06:05

Look up the Barnum/Forer effect

Not sure what this has to do with forecasting events in someone’s life.
Or when the chart is saying one thing and someone else is telling me something different that I then find out later is a complete lie.

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/05/2020 06:34

identical twins. Same dna and star sign so why do they often lead contrasting lives

Different times of birth

Lweji · 13/05/2020 11:46

If twins are born a few minutes apart, what happens if the time of birth is not to the minute it happened, or the person doesn't know the exact time within an hour frame?

I find I treat it as a bit of fun but sometimes it surprises me how accurate it can be.

If I make 100 predictions, some are likely to be correct.
But we are very apt at adapting vague mentions to specific situations in our lives.

AprilJune · 13/05/2020 11:48

It’s rubbish and I totally judge people who believe in it.

foggybits · 13/05/2020 11:53

I think it's nonsense but one thing I find weird is that all my friends are 3 of the same star signs, 1 being my own. My childhood friends, the colleagues I click with, family members I'm closest to all fit into these three groups.

Oliversmumsarmy · 13/05/2020 12:51

Then it is an educated guess.

My own I thought I knew where I was born
and the time and whilst I could see how natal charts related to other people and could read for other people. Mine I just couldn’t get a handle on certain aspects.

A couple of weeks ago I was messing around on a government website looking for birth details of my great grandfather and thought I would put in my name and what I had always been told was my town of birth.
My mother when we passed a building would say I had been born there.
Even on my birth certificate it says this town.

Nothing came up. A bit of digging and remembering places my family had lived (family has moved around just before my birth) and I found my birth details.
Same county but no where near where I was told.
This shifted my birth chart just slightly but enough to change a positioning of a couple of planets which then became more like I was reading about me.

I always think Astrology isn’t about predicting that next Saturday you will win the lottery but more about if you go to a certain area and are there in a certain time frame you will have some luck and things will be beneficial

Although I am sure I read about a small study of lottery winners where they had the time of birth and it does show that luck and winning were in the birth chart of most of them
Astrology is about how you feel. If things are not going right and it is getting you down then it could be down to a certain transit and you can then see that rather than fighting it in a week, month, 3 months things will get better and you will feel more free and things suddenly start to move forward

Last January I entered a period of what my chart showed would be 2 years of things going wrong, that things that were set in stone would crumble, forces would work against me and I wouldn’t be having a great time.

Last January I couldn’t see what could possibly go wrong that I hadn’t insured against every thinkable outcome. (Because I had seen what was on the horizon)

I didn’t count on someone lying to me for months on end and nearly wiping me out.
I didn’t count on this virus wiping out an area I had worked hard learning about and many other things that seem to have come from no where that has made my life really shitty.

You can look at what your forecast chart says but ultimately if the chart says a certain time is a good time to move house then it doesn’t mean you are going to move house. It just means that the sale and move will go more smoothly if you choose to put your house up for sale. It you choose not to move then that is your free will and it doesn’t mean anything.

Lweji · 13/05/2020 14:28

What you're saying doesn't make sense.
Either tiny differences make a difference or not.
Why bother making a chart unless you know the minute of your birth and exact gps coordinates, then?

SneakersandSocks · 13/05/2020 14:37

I think it’s abit of fun but no, I don’t believe you can just lump every Gemini, Capricorn , Virgo etc as having the same traits/ personality/ destiny etc. I could go through every star sign and pick out at least 2 traits from each that sound like me, good or bad.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 13/05/2020 14:43

It is utter, utter bollocks. Unfortunately, given all the conspiracy and woo bullshit the coronavirus has brought to the fore, I expect we’ll see more of it - especially from charlatans who know there’s money to be made from fear and uncertainty.

Pukkatea · 13/05/2020 14:49

This is why we need to encourage more girls to continue in physics and general sciencr education.

zscaler · 13/05/2020 14:50

Load of bollocks imo. I’m a Gemini and don’t identify with any of the characteristics particularly strongly, especially as they are all so vague they could absolutely apply to anyone.

zscaler · 13/05/2020 14:55

I saw one the other day that made me laugh - ‘if you’re dating a scorpio hold on to them, because they are one in a million’

One in a million, really? Not more like... 1 in 12 perhaps?

LastTrainEast · 13/05/2020 15:00

No truth in it at all. Just one of many scams.

CakeHoleinRoof · 13/05/2020 15:04

Biggest load of bollocks since ever. I don't share my destiny with 12% of the population.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 13/05/2020 15:21

@cakeholeinroof

8.3333%, but your point stands! 😉

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 13/05/2020 15:28

I am a typical aquarian but I know it's all confirmation bias, and if I was another sign I'd be a typical that too!

7Days · 13/05/2020 15:30

But astrologers look at more than your sun sign. When people say I'm a Taurus or whatever, they are talking about their sun sign.
Theres the moon in Sagittarius, Neptune in the 7th house. All that.

Hingeandbracket · 13/05/2020 15:38

If I live anywhere in the UK north of Leeds it reads that everything I do will end in disappointment and anything in the UK South of Leeds it says unknown forces will work against me here and I will be stabbed in the back either figuratively or literally.
Does this mean you can't live in the UK or you can only live in Leeds?
What about West or East?

ohlookthisisjustdaftnow · 13/05/2020 15:39

It's all absolute cobblers.

Stubborn as a bull, me. Wink

Oliversmumsarmy · 13/05/2020 15:56

Lweji when your mother who I presumed was at my birth tells you where you were born then was I supposed to doubt her.

Hingeandbracket
Whatever the degree Leeds area is on the area above is affected by one aspect and South is governed by a different aspect so it affects all countries on the same degrees going around the world

Lifeaback · 13/05/2020 16:03

I believe in birth charts- mine is incredibly accurate to my characteristics. I’ve also had lots of conversations with people who are into astrology who have been able to guess my signs within hours of meeting me which has really cemented my belief in them.

It isn’t for everyone, and that’s fine. The way I see it though, they aren’t causing any harm- it’s nice to believe that we are all part of something much bigger than just the here and now. Maybe problematic if you’re checking your daily horoscope and refusing the leave the house if it cites that something bad will happen to you today, but the minimal part of astrology that is in my life is completely harmless IMO

Lweji · 13/05/2020 16:54

Lweji when your mother who I presumed was at my birth tells you where you were born then was I supposed to doubt her.
Kudos to your mother for being able to look at her watch as you exited her vagina.

A question, though. DS stopped as his head was coming out and was stuck there for maybe a couple of minutes. Should I count when he was all out, or part of the exposed head is ok?

And why is birth so important? Surely we're not shielded by a bit of flesh from the important effects of Jupiter, a million miles away. Shouldn't it be conception rather than birth?
