What do you think of astrology?

Posting in AIBU for traffic. Not the mystic meg astrology, but birth charts, rising, sun, moon etc. I'm a Scorpio rising, Virgo cusp/libra sun and Taurus moon- after looking up what they meant they're strangely accurate Grin just curious to know!

I buy a personal chart from a well known astrologer...

How much do they cost and how often do you need to buy them?

Ratonastick · 23/06/2019 19:50

I think they are basically horseshit. But I do read mine every day because I like someone saying nice and positive to me every morning. You can fit anything to any sign you like, but I just like the daily positive vibe. No different to any other positivity app really.

Reith · 24/06/2019 16:55

Except that other positivity apps are based on evidence that things like gratitudes, affirmations etc. work.

pigsDOfly · 24/06/2019 17:11

I see you are a Scorpio OP, and you say that Scorpios have an affinity with water.

So how does that work for a Scorpio like me who has never learned to swim because of my fear of water and will never go in a boat of any kind?

The whole thing is a load of tosh.

My exh was given a reading from someone years ago, it was so broad that it could probably have fitted half the population.

He kept it for years, probably still has it for all I know, because he felt it was so accurate.

AhhhHereItGoes · 25/06/2019 12:21

See when I did charts I charged nothing as obviously it's all subjective and non accurate.

Someone insisted on giving me £20 once which was a bit WineShock

For most it's just harmless fun and if it's just that no harm done.

More chance of it being real than flat Earth at least Smile

TildaKauskumholm · 25/06/2019 12:29

Nonsense, can't believe people get paid to produce the crap in newspapers and magazines and that anyone reads it.

isabellerossignol · 25/06/2019 12:39

I was taught as a child at Sunday school that astrology was satanic, and that even reading the bits in the back of a magazine 'for the laugh' was heading down the slippery slope to hell.

I fall more into the 'its a load of crap' category these days. Grin

lazylinguist · 25/06/2019 12:39

Grin Grinat the idea that there's 'proper' astrology and silly Mystic Meg astrology. It's all bollocks, obviously!

TheRedSquare · 25/06/2019 13:36

I personally love it!!

I have a book gifted to me called the secret language of birthdays..I've read a few sceptic people theirs and they look back at me dumbfounded!

I'm a Taurus/Gemini cups and I def have a lot of traits, but not all.

It's harmless to have an interest in it and I choose to believe what I like as I'm not hurting anyone 😊

TheRedSquare · 25/06/2019 13:37

I don't however read horoscopes that come out in magazines etc as I do believe that you will try and make it fit you!!

bribery · 25/06/2019 18:20

@TheRedSquare I've red that myself and it's quite scary! And I'm the same cusp as you! Are you on the 20th?!

It's probably all cobblers but it's a bit of fun, just like those Myers Briggs tests!

ToasterCrumbs · 25/06/2019 18:29

It's all just entertainment - no one actually believes in astrology, do they?!

TheRedSquare · 25/06/2019 18:38

@bribery in the 21st 😊 I've always liked astrology and the stars etc but it was that book that made me like it more as it was scary! And before anyone quips you make it fit....the book doesn't work like that...obviously some bits weren't me...but on the whole it is 😬😬

I always read people I know and sit thinking 'wow....so true' 😂

pigsDOfly · 25/06/2019 19:29

Given that most people are incredibly complex in their make up and a great many of an individual's personality traits will seem contradictory, I think it's safe to say that you can make a lot of things about a person 'fit' if you want to.

Well none of these astrologers predicted this virus and it's consequences.

Leo You will buying a lot of toilet rolls this week.

Pisces You will spending more time than usual at home.

dadshere · 11/05/2020 14:32

Astrology is a way for con artists to relieve gullible and foolish people of their money. It is as believable as the fairies in the bottom of the garden or The Book of Mormon. There are plenty of nice, but dim people who believe in these kinds of things.

NeutrinoWrangler · 11/05/2020 14:41

They're a waste of money. If you have money to burn that isn't supposed to be going elsewhere and view it as entertainment, that's your business (though I can think of hundreds of better ways to spend my cash, and I suspect few keep going back to it who aren't "believers" buying a ticket to Fantasy Land).

The problem comes in when people believe it, rely on it to make important decisions, and end up wasting money they don't have (or that could have been put to better, more profitable use).

It's a scam.

BoingBoingyBoing · 11/05/2020 14:42

It's all cobblers, obviously.

username108 · 11/05/2020 14:46

I've never met an honest Gemini, so yes, I do believe in them.

KC225 · 12/05/2020 02:47

Username108 I am a Gemini and hands up, I am a complete bullshitter, so fair dos.

Mystic Meg reminds me of a student job I had - before our shifts we would read out her horoscopes. They were quite mad - for example 'on Tuesday you will inherit a blue caravan' and 'Friday will bring a surprise royal encounter to your life'

Lweji · 12/05/2020 03:03

All bollocks but I'm a definite lion. 😁
Confirmation bias.

Lweji · 12/05/2020 03:04

A local comedian made a clip with all the astrologists' predictions for this year. Not a single one was even remotely close to where we are now.

We have free will and astrology can’t tell you what or what not to do but it can tell you a time to do or not to do something to make things/life work/run more smoothly

And it can tell you that you are or will be going through a really shitty time and show you where the end is.

I did a friends chart about 10 years ago.

Unknown to her I noted that she would have a relationship break up on a certain date and wouldn’t be clear of it until January of next year.

I was within 24 hours of the date that her husband was escorted from the family home and her chart said her divorce would take nearly 5 years to complete which is on the face of it completely insane

She has now entered the 4th year of this divorce and it should have been concluded recently but as the courts are not working it is looking more and more likely like the date I said 10 years ago.

I also look at Astrocartography.

I had a seriously bad childhood and everything I have has been fought for literally. Always felt that other people’s lives run so much more smoothly and I am fighting an invisible enemy.
Even though I do all the right things I never seem to get ahead.
Every time I get somewhere I get knocked back.

I did my astrocartography chart and it couldn’t be more true.
It was a revelation.

If I live anywhere in the UK north of Leeds it reads that everything I do will end in disappointment and anything in the UK South of Leeds it says unknown forces will work against me here and I will be stabbed in the back either figuratively or literally.

But the one place in my travels that I really felt at home (even when the bullets were flying) when I visited in early 80s turns out is one of the most luckiest and happiest places on earth for me.

I find I treat it as a bit of fun but sometimes it surprises me how accurate it can be.

Last year I was looking to see what the next few months held and I saw something in my charts that unsettled me.

I knew immediately who and what it referred to but when I questioned the person I was assured everything was alright

I did question this person on a number of occasions throughout last year because my chart was screaming at me that something had happened.
It has now come out that last year at the time my chart said this thing had happened. It did actually happen and I was being lied to by this person for the best part of 8 months.
