What do you think of astrology?

Posting in AIBU for traffic. Not the mystic meg astrology, but birth charts, rising, sun, moon etc. I'm a Scorpio rising, Virgo cusp/libra sun and Taurus moon- after looking up what they meant they're strangely accurate Grin just curious to know!

So - genuinely - is i5 just coincidence that I have loads of friends born in December / January....April/May but none in March, or June?

Phoningliz · 21/06/2019 20:28

The brothers decided it was nonsense but were persuaded by their partners to look at them and they each worked out which report was which brother.

I wonder if birth order makes a difference too.

If you mean that you have 15 friends all born in December, I'd be surprised. If you mean that you're thinking of 15 friends, and they're all born in months other than March or June then I wouldn't be.

Like @Bravelurker above, I spent a LOT of my teenage years in the 80s casting charts. I was fascinated by the archetypes behind the signs, and how you find them echoed in the Tarot.
It's all a load of bollocks of course, but I also still can't help finding out what signs people are and work it into my mental version of them. I know it's daft, but it's automatic. I also used to get A LOT of drinks bought for me down the pub if I brought my tarot deck along. I'm extremely good at cold reading people.

When I was younger I set myself the goal of shagging every star sign. It took ages because I kept falling for Leos and Librans and couldn't find a Scorpio I fancied enough. It's a very unscientific study, but I did discover that quite a proportion of Virgoans are really well hung. Grin

Omzlas · 21/06/2019 20:31

Utter shite

Preggosaurus9 · 21/06/2019 20:33

OP try traditional astrology. Start with the Skyscript website.

camelliavi · 21/06/2019 20:41

Ladyofthecanyon, I found the same thing with virgos Grin

Preggosaurus09- I must visit that website. I'm really enjoying reading what everyone's opinions on astrology are. Smile I'll be on later Grin

Honestly? Weapons-grade bullshit

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 21/06/2019 20:51

PhoningLiz - check out jessicaadams.com and have a squiz at her astrology blog. It goes back years so you can judge it retrospectively... Smile

Jupiter is passing through Orion
And moving to conjunction with Mars.
Saturn is wheeling through infinite space
To its pre-ordained place in the stars.
And I gaze at the planets in wonderment --
At the trouble and time they expend
Just to warn me to be careful
In dealings involving a friend.

FlippingTheLid · 21/06/2019 20:58

Load of rubbish for the gullible.

Ravenclawclassof84 · 21/06/2019 21:00

Bollocks!

Carlamity · 21/06/2019 21:02

I used to be into this too, doing full birth charts. I wouldn't publicly admit it now! The difference between Mystic Meg and 'proper' astrology is that a full birth chart looks at the positions of multiple planets, including angles between them and your rising sign, amongst other things, while Meg only looks at the position of the Sun. This makes a full astrological reading far more detailed and personal.

Logically it sounds like bollocks but I've come across too much that is weirdly accurate. My rising sign is Virgo 25.02 degrees. Dd1's rising sign is ... Virgo 25.02 degrees. Make of that what you will! People say genetics are reflected in birth charts .... !

I will genuinely check it out thanks, but I think I could write pretty accurate horoscopes for things that have already happened Grin

So is there a blind trial of this?

SegregateMumBev · 21/06/2019 21:59

But but but...how does the position of Venus at the moment of your birth have any influence on the sort of person you turn out to be?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 21/06/2019 22:01

Mystical forces, innit?

Writersblock2 · 21/06/2019 22:03

Absolute bollocks. I had a bit of a spat with a “friend” over this recently. It was already going sort of south and then she asked what I thought of star signs. I replied “absolute bollocks” and she decided I was a judgemental ass. I wonder if she saw that in the stars. Hmm

Carlamity · 21/06/2019 22:09

I agree that there is absolutely no tested statistical basis for any of it. I found it interesting years ago - basically harmless!

SudowoodoVoodoo · 21/06/2019 22:10

Well I wish the obstetrician had been more successful in their attempts to exert force on DS's head, it would have saved me major surgery and a saggy overhang Grin

I'm up for a good birth chart. Of course I am. I'm a Pisces. I'm all up for being gullible Grin

floraloctopus · 21/06/2019 22:11

My horoscope tells me they are a load of shit which I shouldn't believe.

AhhhHereItGoes · 21/06/2019 22:13

I find it interesting.
It's like crystals, aromatherapy etc.
Interesting and something to look into but not to base your life upon.

That may be because I have a fuckton of Capricorn placements though and they are miserable, cynical bastards.
Definitely not me as I'm not a workaholic or self proud lazy and non conformist to the Max.

I do like how saying I'm an Aquarius gives some interesting answers though!
I have done many a chart because it's just fun to do.

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 21/06/2019 22:14

PhoningLiz - no, as in you can read her past blogs. I've been following them for ages. She makes predictions months or even years in advance but leaves the blogs up, unchanged and unedited Grin Have a read and see what you thinkSmile She makes some pretty interesting predictions about Brexit happening in September....

Camomila · 21/06/2019 22:26

Harmless fun.

Although, I think there probably are some small corrolations between birth season and personality type/general health

I remember reading something about people conceived during Ramadan being more likely to have health problems, so.I can imagine (in the past) maybe being in the 3rd trimester during winter being hard if there's not much food etc.
