To eat nothing but crisps for a week? Would I die?

I bloody love crisps. I hate chocolate. Crisps are my Achilles heel.

Anyway, when I've over indulged in a particular food, I can't face them for a long time afterwards.
I didn't eat mince pies for 3 years once.
I still haven't looked a jelly baby in the eye since I was breast feeding ds2 and ate packets and packets of them.

I'm constantly sitting on my hands trying not to eat crisps.
For years I've been wondering whether I should just eat crisps and nothing else for a week and get over my blood obsession.

I can't eat 'as many as I want' as part of my normal diet because I would be eating way too many calories and I've got down to a good weight after having DS3.

Would I die from all the salt?

It's only a week so I think I wouldn't die from anything else.

I know it sounds ridiculous but it might just work...?

As you're a nurse, could you turn it into a medical experiment and do various medical tests on yourself during the Great Crisp Regime?

banivani · 22/06/2019 11:03

@ZebraOwl thank you for your exhaustive reply Grin The smallest bags here are 40 g and like I said can only be bought singly. I think small bags are smart because you only eat one, whereas with a big bag you keep eating and yes, eat only one but 200 g of product. Am really looking forward to this experiment.

BertieBotts · 22/06/2019 11:09

I've eaten 90% crisps for a few days in a row at times when I'm being crap about my diet. I didn't die. I'm pretty sure it takes more than a week of a crap diet to do actual kidney damage. (Though my kidneys aren't that healthy, it must be said... have never really put those two together until now). Will be interested to read diary :)

Make sure you buy low sodium bottled water, OP, like they advise for babies. Evian is the one I distantly remember from antenatal classes but I might be wrong.

Rockbird · 23/06/2019 11:42

I love crisps, but am ok if I don't buy them. Once I do though it starts off an avalanche of crisp addiction. I was doing ok this week until I tried the M&S Katsu curry crisps mentioned above. Oh. My. God. I've just come back from M&S with 4 more bags...

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 24/06/2019 09:25

It started off with a square, how did it end up like this? It was only a crisp, it was only a crisp. 🎵

Love this thread! I eat a really healthy diet most the time.( don't deprive of a meal out or a little of what I fancy) but generally loads of veg/fruit/wholewheat and lean meats you get the idea.

I can't give up crisps though. Salt and vinegar McCoy's are my fave but a treat only. Just buy cheap aldi ones and have a pack most days. I do buy the 'chickpea puffs' alternatives too but they don't look that much healthier tbh and are expensive.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 24/06/2019 12:45

Hmmm.... 6 packets in and I can see how I might have to wave goodbye to the roof of my mouth at some point...

I'm only on the squares so far though.
Which is an expensive way of approaching the experiment I've realised. Was kinda hoping the would be on offer. But no, full price.

Nothing better than a G+T or a cold beer with a few crisps whilst on holiday

RestingBitchFaced · 24/06/2019 15:58

I need to do this. I also have a crisp cupboard. I would be slim if there was no such thing as crisps

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 24/06/2019 16:11

My mouth hurts.

But I am in now way put off by crisps as we near dinner time.

I've eaten 8 packets of square crisps (22g bags) and might have one or two tonight.
I've been mildly hungry but not enough for it to be a bother.
I wonder if I will be saying that this time tomorrow though.

It’s kind of nuts, but I’m into the the theory. I also get overload of even the tastiest things, I’m quite greedy too and will gorge on things I really like. Then I go right off them.

When I was a SAHM, there was lots of time spent having a coffee and a cake after or during the many groups. Now the very thought of having coffee and/or cake makes me feel like I’m going to throw up. The sheer amount of sickly sugar Envy not envy!

theWarOnPeace · 24/06/2019 16:14

Rockbird wtf they do katsu curry crisps?! Now frantically finding a reason to go past M&S.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/06/2019 16:20

Omg, I'm so going to M&S tomorrow.
The corner shop by my friend's house has scampi fries, I stock up every time I go

user1494670108 · 24/06/2019 16:33

I'm loving this thread Grin. Maybe its time to swap flavours Wink

MightyWings · 24/06/2019 16:45

Don'tbite don't you think you need a name change, something more crisp.

By the end of the week you may be 'potatohater'

Hopefully the roof of your mouth will heal overnight in time for breakfast.

iPodge · 24/06/2019 16:49

theWarOnPeace

They sure do! I now have 6 bags hidden in the boot of the car and one bag in my tummy 😋

TellMeItsNotTrue · 24/06/2019 16:50

stands up my name is TellMeItsNotTrue and I'm a crispaholic 😂

This would 100% not work for me, partly I don't think I'd ever get sick of crisps 🤔 but also because there are so many different types of crisp bases and then there are so many different flavours for each type.

I have gone cold turkey before 😩 it was hard for a week, not easy for 2 weeks then not bad for a week and after a month I just didn't really think to have them, it stopped being the norm 🤷‍♀️

Unfortunately I then had a bag, and it can never stop at one bag 😏 really need to go cold turkey again but they are just so nice and I don't drink, I don't smoke, I'm not a chocolate fan - surely I'm allowed one vice 🤔😂

Cold turkey isn't easy because I crave ready salted crisps when I am nauseous, only thing I can eat, not sure if that goes back to pregnancy or if its my body needing the salt (don't have much in my diet) as it has to be really salty ones - McCoy's chipshop ones are the best - it's the only time I eat boring crisps 😂 but once I've had them I then want proper crisps once I'm no longer feeling sick

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 24/06/2019 16:55

I just counted and it turns out I've only had 6 packets.

I feel like I've eaten 40.
I think I need to recount, that can't be possible.

MightyWings · 24/06/2019 17:14

Keep it up OP. You can do this.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 24/06/2019 19:09

IVE HIT AN UNEXPECTED HURDLE!

Already?!

In the past I tried low carb boot camp three separate times. The last time I committed for a month but each and every time ended up with a horrible constant dull pain in the middle of my chest. I even had a scan to rule out gallstones.

Anyway, it probably doesn't help that I had a massive dominos pizza last night but this pain has begun in the exact same place.

This could foil my plans.

On the other hand, if I power through the pain itself will surely help put me off The Crisp?

thenightsky · 24/06/2019 19:15

Ranatadine is what you need OP. Cheap in Wilko.

NameChangeNugget · 24/06/2019 19:18

I’d be farting like a nuclear winter, if that’s all I ate

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 24/06/2019 19:21

Ah! Thank you! I don't have a Wilko but I do have a Tesco. I will get some, I didn't know that could help.
