To prefer a summer of rain to summer heatwave if we have to choose between the extremes?

At least we still have the bright mornings and the light nights and if I get damp it's because I haven't rainproofed myself..

Sick of the rain. Bloody massive storm last night and I don't think it has stopped pissing it down since 17.00. And of course all the days before. I went to a festival on Sunday and it was torrential rain off and on.

I need heat and sun and so does my husband for his mental health. We have had a couple of sunny days, but that is not enough.

Last summer was amazing. Sick of grey. I guess I will look forward to summer 2020 as it isn't happening this year.

I am always surprised by how many summer haters there are on MN.

Anarchyshake · 19/06/2019 23:07

Whilst the wet gets tiresome quickly, I love the sound of the rain. I'm a killjoy, but it also stops people from stopping outside my window and loudly talking forever. And kids from being a pain at all hours on the street.

But my biggest issue is with heat. I've never been told why I have this problem. I've only been fat for five years, asides from two years in my early twenties. It's not a weight thing. But I feel very claustrophobic, get sick, faint, and am perpetually moist in the heat, which causes my skin to break out in rashes and spots. I have the windows open in winter. Sometimes i really can't breathe. But I still can't afford an air conditioning unit.

So I would happily take a summer of rain and cooler temperatures.

Anarchyshake · 19/06/2019 23:11

Then again, I'm at a European festival this August and am camping for the first time in years, if it rains I think I might meltdown.

KittiKat · 19/06/2019 23:16

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! A high is to hit the UK next week!!!! London is expected to be 28 deg C on Thursday! BRING IT ON!!! Grin Grin Grin

DontCallMeShitley · 19/06/2019 23:17

I am not a fan of rain, but I absolutely loathe humidity, can't function with it at all and last summer was hell for me. I barely went out. On that basis I prefer rain.

PointlessUsername · 19/06/2019 23:21

Yes, i would take Rain anyday over heat.
I loathe the heat.

October - feb is my fave time of the year though.

U2HasTheEdge · 19/06/2019 23:24

it won't be long before people start talking about cosy and snuggling etc

No it won't. People will talk about how they love warming up under blankets and in front of fires (although they don't like heat) and how we have crisp Autumn days (no, we have grey).

Winter is bloody horrible and summer haters get their preferred weather 99% of the year, and yet there are still countless threads moaning about the summer. I would think myself lucky if I got my preferred weather pretty much most of the year.

Poppy43 · 19/06/2019 23:26

I prefer the rain, but I drive.
So I stay dry most of the time.

Reasons I hate the heat:
Hair goes frizzy
I hate getting my arms out
It's exhausting and makes me tired
Make up slips off

I always miss the sun anyway, always some chore around the house that I am busy with. I do like the sun but I can't stand extremely high temperatures.

ButWhyMama · 19/06/2019 23:28

YADNBU

This is so much better than the toasting we got last year.

Overall though I prefer autumn, which is still sunny but chilly (when it happens properly). Or any day when it snows.

AngeloMysterioso · 19/06/2019 23:30

YABVU!! I’m going to be 23 weeks pregnant at Glastonbury next week- I don’t much want to spend 5 days tramping around a muddy quagmire, cold, wet and unable to sit down anywhere when I could be chilling on a blanket in a T-shirt and shorts, basking in the sunshine!

SkaterGrrrrl · 19/06/2019 23:36

YABVU

Sunshine rocks.

Linnet · 19/06/2019 23:38

I wish it would stop raining. I thought last summer was brilliant I loved it but you know it doesn’t need to be so hot again, just dry!

I can’t get the grass cut as it keeps raining. I can’t hang the washing out! I don’t have a tumble drier so I have washing all over the house trying to dry which more often than not needs the heating on to dry it properly or else it takes days and days to dry.

Im fed up having to make sure I have an umbrella, a cardi in case it’s chilly etc. I would just like it to be sunny and warm. And then maybe rain during the night for the gardens.

DougalsBlueJumper · 19/06/2019 23:38

Please send any passing heatwaves to NI. Every year we have to watch everybody else basking in the sun, while we endure yet another summer of endless drizzle. I know sunscreen is a faff and the neighbours five doors down can hear my children screaming like banshees as I chase them round the house with a bottle of Factor 50, but all that lovely blue sky .... and that big round yellow thing .... I love it.

AngeloMysterioso · 19/06/2019 23:42

I love summers like this. May they rule forever Grin

But this isn’t summer! There’s no sun, there’s no warmth, it’s just chilly, grey and wet all day every day. How is that summer?!

WhatTheFoxSay · 19/06/2019 23:50

@WeWantSweet YABU. Sun and heat all the way please!

This long rainy 'summer' is making me long for Christmas!

ilovesooty · 20/06/2019 03:29

U2 absolutely.

SinglePringle · 20/06/2019 06:31

Just heard on the radio - 25 on Sunday and around 28 Monday / Tuesday

YES!!!!

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/06/2019 07:08

I'm Team Rain, Very happy with this summer so far, last year was just awful. Really hoping the forecast for next week is wrong.

NoSauce · 20/06/2019 07:10

No chance. Rain non stop is depressing.

LoadsaBlusher · 20/06/2019 07:11

YABU
Sick of the rain
Scottish schools stop next Friday and just looked at the 7 day forecast it’s rain every single day
Not looking forward to this weather with 3 DC to entertain !

Need some sun
I fact not even sun just the bloody rain to stop so we can all get to the park without sloshing in mud and boggy grass

hazeyjane · 20/06/2019 07:13

Does Team Rain fancy joining me in a rain dance?

mimibunz · 20/06/2019 07:13

The British think a heatwave is 25. It’s just about perspective. For many around the world 25 is the perfect temperature as it’s considered relatively mild.

AuntieStella · 20/06/2019 07:14

I think it should be rain until about now (GCSEs and A levels just coming to an end) then 6-8 weeks sunny (different in Scotland, of course)

But we'll get iffy/wet/dull, followed by brilliant sunshine in mid-September

AngeloMysterioso · 20/06/2019 07:17

I'm Team Rain, Very happy with this summer so far

Again, this is not summer! There is nothing “summer” about it!

Fuck me, seriously? Some people just want grey sky and rain all year round? It’s so depressing!

I know British weather isn’t great but seriously, mid-20’s June to August should be standard summer weather, not a “heatwave”. We’ve become so used to the constant dreary damp that people can’t cope whenever the mercury rises above tepid.

AguerosAngel · 20/06/2019 07:18

YABU.

Damp, wet weather causes my chronic illness to flare even more than usual, leaving me in excruciating pain and unable to walk properly and having to use crutches.

Give me last years weather any day of the week.

Roll on DH finishing work in ten years time and we can get out of here permanently!
