To prefer a summer of rain to summer heatwave if we have to choose between the extremes?

At least we still have the bright mornings and the light nights and if I get damp it's because I haven't rainproofed myself..

I love a rainy summer. I love indigo skies and thunder and rainbows and a warm day with torrential rain. It's still June so plenty of time for the dreaded heat.

DinosApple · 19/06/2019 21:18

I worked 7 days a week last year so bloody missed all the sunshine!
This summer all my odd days off have been soggy... Sigh.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 19/06/2019 21:26

I can’t believe so many people prefer this cold, rainy miserable weather to sunny days and warmth.

It’s just miserable and is giving me SAD. In June. Ridiculous. I hate rain, cold, frost, snow, hail and fog. I need sun.

MrsJBaptiste · 19/06/2019 21:29

mydog Why won't you use the tumble dryer just because it's June? I shouldn't have to put the heating on but I'll be damned if I'm sitting here cold just because I'm trying to prove a point!

BobbyBrewstersMagicTorch · 19/06/2019 21:30

YABVU. Love the sun. Rain = misery.

viccat · 19/06/2019 21:32

If you mean rain like we've had recently then YANBU as it hasn't been that bad. At least where I am in London we've been getting rain showers most days but not full day of rain, and it's been sunny in between.

I would like a bit more sun if possible as trying to grow vegetables for the first time! But I find heatwaves unbearable as well and prefer cooler days.

Apolloanddaphne · 19/06/2019 21:32

An east of Scotland heatwave is a wonderful thing. 20-22 degrees and a light breeze. Give me that over rain any day.

NameChangeNugget · 19/06/2019 21:33

I want to wear vest tops and shorts. It’s June!

I love the sun

piratehooker · 19/06/2019 21:33

YANBU, rain is bliss! Especially compared to that awful relentless muggy heat and glaring sun. I'm loving the cooler, rainy weather at the moment and dreading the coming heat. If we could skip ahead to late Autumn, I'd be so happy.

Ohyesiam · 19/06/2019 21:35

My perfect would be hot sunny days and rain at night , but if it can’t organise itself to do that, I’ll just have the hot and sunny please.
I LOVED last summer .

yoursworried · 19/06/2019 21:35

I hate this rain. It's so bloody disappointing and I feel like this is going to be it. I'd take the heatwave given a choice so yabu!!

DameSquashalot · 19/06/2019 21:37

I like variety. Grey and mediocre all year round is not for me.

YABU

userxx · 19/06/2019 21:37

Christ no, this weather is fucking miserable. I'm dying to get out in the garden and get everyone over for a BBQ but it won't stop pissing it down. It's killing my mood.

ZoSanDesu · 19/06/2019 21:41

I don't hate the rain but it rains every school day at bang on 2:50-3:30. Not fun on the school run: everything is soaked and not warm enough to dry everything out before we get soaked again.

puppy23 · 19/06/2019 21:51

YABU - its bloody miserable! We get enough doom and gloom rainy grey days through the other seasons

StCharlotte · 19/06/2019 21:51

Don't panic sun-lovers, there's always a heatwave when I go on holiday and I'm going this weekend Smile

24hourhomeedderandcarer · 19/06/2019 21:59

i couldnt cope last year and was hospitalized twice with heat stroke and dehydration even though i was drinking constantly
i wasnt in the sun i was just sat at home with all doors and windows open and a big fan

i dont sweat at all,my body overheats or under heats so i feel the cold more than other as well, the latter i deal with but its difficult to keep cooler than warmer

i also burn very very easy and can burn within 10 mins slathered in a factor 60.we dont go abroad because of this

i got that hot in the heatwave i fainted twice and had to go to hospital on a drip for 24 hours a time

after the 2nd time i bought a small pool for the living room(really big room)and filed in up 1/4 of the way up and sat in it instead of the settee and kept topping it up with cold water

my skin was mottled or wrinkled(what ever you call it after being in water to long)but it had to be done
i put it away mid october i think so it really doesnt bother me if we have a summer or not as my body cant cope

my fave seasons are autumn then winter anyway

DropZoneOne · 19/06/2019 22:08

I want sunshine! My hair hates humidity, i look like Monica when they went to Barbados in this warm, wet weather. I can't work out what clothes to wear so i stay cool but dry. I want to wear my summer clothes and enjoy my garden.

nothingtowearever · 19/06/2019 22:17

Agreed. I HATE the sun

WoollyMollyMonkey · 19/06/2019 22:29

Irish heritage here too OP. I hate being really hot, and swear I’ll never moan about being cold in the winter ever again, but then come winter I hate being cold (snow and ice/frost -scraping the car in the mornings etc) and then I swear i’ll never again moan about being too Hot! Can’t win. I need to move to somewhere where the weather is like our Spring all year round!

jessicawessica · 19/06/2019 22:37

YANBU I hate hot weather as it makes my hot sweats even worse.
Admittedly it means I can't peg my washing out, but at least I don't have to resort to wearing sleeveless clothing and get my bingo wings out.

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 19/06/2019 22:42

It rains enough in autumn and winter, I'd just like a few weeks of decent weather.

The last week or so was miserable, it's really hard work with a young child, you have to go out bit you just end up soaked and then you have mop the floor because the pushchair has brought in dirty rain water! At least last year we could just sit by the fan in our pants/nappy for days!

Pikapikachooo · 19/06/2019 22:43

It’s patchy rain so you have to Grab outdoors time when you can

I sadly agree . I hated it getting all dry and the plants dying last year

It will stop raining eventually anyway and will be lovely and green Smile

SudowoodoVoodoo · 19/06/2019 22:53

I had winter coats out, the central heating on and lights on all day last week as it was typical weather for February. I tried to forgive it as the last 12 months have been so dry so the ground had really needed it. By rights, our clay lawn should have been a swamp last week, but the ground has sucessfully absorbed it despite there being enough inches of rain to overflow the sandpit! It was also a fairly decent winter without too many weeks of permagloom so I did enter the spring on better form than usual.

Some consistent summer weather would be welcome, where you know you'll manage fine with a t-shirt. The kids are so much better company when they can let off steam in the garden/ parks/ playgrounds.

The best weather we've had for warmth without being muggy was the end of February Confused

jessicawessica · 19/06/2019 22:59

There is sunny weather (like in the Med) then there is the British sunny weather whereby you have a shower and within 5 vmins you are all hot and sweaty again.
Claggy is the word and it's awful. Give me thunder and lightning any day as it freshens the atmosphere.
