To prefer a summer of rain to summer heatwave if we have to choose between the extremes?

At least we still have the bright mornings and the light nights and if I get damp it's because I haven't rainproofed myself..

Yes, yes yes yes!

SinglePringle · 19/06/2019 20:14

I absolutely HATE this rain. Hate it.

I adored last summer and am really quite pissed off about he current state of affairs.

Bring on the heatwave!!

mintcucumber · 19/06/2019 20:15

A few weeks of sun out of 52?

YABU

Al203 · 19/06/2019 20:18

Bizarrely it is only because we crave the sun we will probably bring more quantities of rain that we could ever hope for.

AnonymousP · 19/06/2019 20:21

YANBU. Last summer was horrendous. I had morning sickness, a baby and a toddler to contend with, all while living with the ILs because we were fixing up our house. Torture. I’m embracing the rain!

JennaOfEluria · 19/06/2019 20:22

YANBU

I'm happier

The children are happier

We can leave the house without being hot, sweaty, grumpy and worried about sunburn vs chemicals in sun cream

I love summers like this. May they rule forever Grin

PinkiOcelot · 19/06/2019 20:26

YABVU!

JassyRadlett · 19/06/2019 20:27

It’s cold and wet for the majority of the bloody year. Can’t those of us who don’t mind the sun have a few weeks?

WoollyMollyMonkey · 19/06/2019 20:28

Rain for me too, I hate heatwaves. I don’t mind a bit of summer sun just not an excessive heatwave - when you can’t get cool, and your clothes stick to your body, or you’re tossing and turning because it’s too hot to get to sleep.

CookPassBabtridge · 19/06/2019 20:28

Last year was so bad for gardens and farmers, reservoirs etc.. it was too much. This constant rain is awful though, school run getting soaked and dodging puddles.. sorry I can't choose, I want a happy medium of 20c-25c with a downpour once every 10 days Grin

Snugglepiggy · 19/06/2019 20:30

Given the choice between this summer so far and the broiling heat of the six weeks without rain last summer I choose the former.Last week was too wet and cold. But today I have sat out in a very comfortable 20 degrees in my garden which looks lush and healthy.I find it easier to warm up if chilly than to cool down if it's hot and sticky.
But then I don't mind winter and Autumn is my favourite season.

KittiKat · 19/06/2019 20:30

We need the sun! Even for a few weeks it will top up our Vitamin D. I am missing the sun. So is my vegetable plot!

tealady20 · 19/06/2019 20:32

Rain any day compared to heat wave !! We had our summer last year they obviously only think we deserve one every few years 🤣

ilovesooty · 19/06/2019 20:34

Bring the sun back.

We've already had one poster rejoicing about the nights drawing in and it won't be long before people start talking about cosy and snuggling etc

We've hardly seen any proper summer weather.

RickJames · 19/06/2019 20:42

I'm with the rain. The UK is not cut out for heatwaves. I live in a microclimate in Germany now. Summer is hot and sunny with almost daily evening thunderstorms and rain. It's delightful- it cools everything back down. But even in the day the workplace etc. is set up for heat. Loads of outdoor pools and lakes where you can swim.
No-one minds if you go to work in flapping linens and sandals, there's loads of cold drinks for free at work and everybody goes a bit slower.
I remember nearly dying on the tube and having to wear proper clothes. YANBU!

TurquoiseDress · 19/06/2019 20:42

No way OP
YABU!

Bring on the heatwave I say

Livpool · 19/06/2019 20:43

It rains here all year round so I would rather have a heatwave

WeWantSweet · 19/06/2019 20:45

Thanks for replies, are the differentiation's down to whether we are by nature hot or cold blooded? My parental heritage is Irish so wonder if I am pre-disposed to rainy weather lol.

100% with you. Last year was intolerable! This cool, bright June is absolutely fine by me.

thepartysover · 19/06/2019 21:01

Also: the sun IS there. The days are longer... I'm sitting here with the back doors open right now. it's just not that awful arid sweaty inescapable HEAT.

mydogisthebest · 19/06/2019 21:04

I am not keen on very hot weather but neither am I keen on rain day after day.

If I had to choose I would choose the heat of last year. Where I live we are now on our 18th continuous day of rain. Not just light showers but, most days, very heavy rain.

Our grass is now pretty high but it never stops raining long enough to cut it. The hedges look dreadful but the same thing applies. The grass is also totally sodden. Most plants have been flattened by the heavy rain.

I have a huge backlog of washing because I just can't get it dry unless I use the tumble dryer and no way am I going to in June.

Walking my 2 long haired dogs is a nightmare as we all get soaked in the morning and by the time the dogs are dry it is time for the afternoon walk. Spending 4 or more hours a day using a hairdryer to dry them is not my idea of fun.

It has at least warmed up slightly and the last 3 or so days I have been able to wear T shirts indoors and the heating hasn't kicked in

I am already dreading that after Friday the nights draw in. I hate the dark mornings and evenings (well afternoons in winter) so much.

My depression usually lifts in the better weather but so far this year it's been bad

Tensixtysix · 19/06/2019 21:07

Hot sunshine by day and storms at night. That is perfect summer weather Grin

cricketmum84 · 19/06/2019 21:08

Can I vote for weekends of beautiful hot sunshine for bbqs and getting the washing dry but then rain during the week to refresh us and cook us down?!

And the moon on a stick too lol

CSIblonde · 19/06/2019 21:08

It's really mild but constantly raining here, which I really don't mind. Windows open & listening to the rain is nicer than windows open & still stifling unbearable heat: & feeling about to pass out on the tube. 37degrees last heatwave, when it's illegal to transport livestock over 28degrees.

123tweet · 19/06/2019 21:10

I'm with you OP! Absolutely loving this summer so far!! Warm enough to get outside lots without all the horrible heat. Yay! Hoping it lasts all summer :-)
