To take a nap almost daily

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 13:56

At some point almost everyday I feel like I can go on no more and just plonk down for a wee nap. I set my alarm for an hour but it usually lasts 35mins. Then I get a drink and carry on with my day. I can last till bed time then but I’m definitely flagging by 8 and I’ll be in bed no later than 10 most nights. Then I’m up at 6. I’m 43 healthy and fit.
Anyone else? Is this normal?
I run my own business, have two kids both at school or nursery. I’m not depressed.

I’m like this, asleep every day by lunch.
I’m folate deficient tho.

SomewhereInbetween1 · 18/06/2019 14:03

I wouldn't consider that normal, no.

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 14:04

Never heard of folate deficiency. I’ll google.

I am like this! Or at least I was until I had my daughter...now naps in the day are few and far between, mores the pity!!

I don’t know if it’s normal. I certainly don’t have any diagnosed things, but maybe there is something underlying. 🤷‍♀️ I COULD last until the evening, but felt better for a quick late afternoon power nap. I’ve been known to do it at hen dos in a hotel room where other people are getting ready!!

badg3r · 18/06/2019 14:07

I don't know if it is normal but I am mid 30s with nursery school age kids and work full time. If someone offered me a nap around 2pm every day I would jump at the chance! As it is I just have 30 mins or so then I do mundane jobs round that time till it passes. I wonder sometimes about iron or folate deficiency or low blood pressure, but not enough to get checked out.

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 14:07

modge I too will take one anywhere. Yes it was awful when the youngest was very wee and I couldn’t. I could hardly think by 4oclock

Should have said when I do mundane jobs.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 18/06/2019 14:09

I had this (47) assumed peri menopausal symptom but actually turned out to be Vitamin B12 and folate deficiency’s. Now on medication and quarterly injections.

Yeahnahmum · 18/06/2019 14:10

Check your iron levels. And b12.
This doesnt sound like you're "healthy and fit" at all...

Whereisme · 18/06/2019 14:11

I have always seemed to have needed a nap. Sometimes I wonder if it’s a habit, but I get so tired!! Then when I do have a nap I feel guilty and think I’m really lazy.

Pinkmouse6 · 18/06/2019 14:12

Only times I’ve done this were when I was pregnant and also depressed. I don’t generally feel the need to nap otherwise, only if I’m really sick.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 18/06/2019 14:12

I get up at 5 and get son to school by 8. Home by 9, tidy up and put on a load of wash, then a nap from 10-11. Then lunch, laundry folding, school pickup, errands, dinner, homework, more chores and bed by midnight.
I could not make it without that hour nap in the morning!!

Karigan195 · 18/06/2019 14:12

Well yeah but I’m 30 weeks pregnant and have low iron! Normally I would be fine.

Have you had your iron levels tested, are you getting enough quality sleep and perhaps try a b vitamin supplement?

Whereisme · 18/06/2019 14:13

Should have said I have 3 children, work 4 days a week and am a school governor so life pretty full on. However, still napped before children!

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 14:15

badg3r I defo am iron deficient but not anaemic. Before I worked for myself I would just push through but be in bed very early and my husband would complain we never got to hangout

Not unless I was dying, and I wouldn't like it then.
I dont sleep more than 4 to 5 hours a night and am always glad when the summer comes because the sun wakes me up earlier.
Do you not realise that you have a finite number of minutes on earth and you are spending them in bed?
Don't really care, just always found the obsession with napping weird. I had a colleague who talked about it all the time and gave us star ratings of the previous day's nap, with an extended edition on Mondays.

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 14:16

Loving that I’m not the only one. I do feel lazy as well.

I'm exactly the same OP, and even with a nap (sometimes two) I struggle to make it to bedtime. I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow every night, sometimes mid conversation. My GP seems wholly unconcerned (as usual) although the asthma nurse said if it carries on for another 6 weeks she'll get her to refer me for some blood tests. I have a shit ton of other symptoms too, but nothing really specific.

Bluerussian · 18/06/2019 14:17

I love a nap during the day too, pure self indulgence and peace.

You can't do it when you're at work but if at home, it's marvellous. Sleep is very healing too. I love sleep above all else!

My husband went off at about 7.30am today, left me on sofa. I went back to sleep until 10am. Feel much better for it (but I fancy another nap now).

When my little one was tiny I always had a sleep while he slept.

whothedaddy · 18/06/2019 14:21

go to the dr and get your bloods taken, it sounds like a deficiency to me.

TheSheepofWallSt · 18/06/2019 14:25

I nap on at least one weekend day with my toddler.

I work long hours, get about 5 hours sleep a night, and am constantly exhausted. I’m always amazed when people say “you have a nap?!”

Passthecherrycoke · 18/06/2019 14:28

I think it can be habit (ie your body just gets used to napping and relys on it) I like a nap, but I have young children and feel guilty that my time with them should come first

RedTitsMcGinty · 18/06/2019 14:30

I was also like this when I had really low folate. I enjoy the odd nap occasionally now but don’t need it like I used to.

Nameisthegame · 18/06/2019 14:35

I live in Spain most people have a siesta or at least relax for two hours. 35 minutes seems reasonable tbh

Nameisthegame · 18/06/2019 14:35

Although if your worried always worth seeing a doctor Incase of low iron etc
