To take a nap almost daily

At some point almost everyday I feel like I can go on no more and just plonk down for a wee nap. I set my alarm for an hour but it usually lasts 35mins. Then I get a drink and carry on with my day. I can last till bed time then but I’m definitely flagging by 8 and I’ll be in bed no later than 10 most nights. Then I’m up at 6. I’m 43 healthy and fit.
Anyone else? Is this normal?
I run my own business, have two kids both at school or nursery. I’m not depressed.

It sounds good to me, although I have a baby and toddler so am a bit sleep deprived and biased! I nap a couple of times a week with the baby if I can. Love it. Feel so much better for it.

I don't think napping for half an hour a day sounds too bad! Tbh how many people in the workplace have you seen looking sleepy in meetings etc. They would all love a nap if they could!

Craftylittlething · 18/06/2019 18:34

I love a nap, I have one most days and it could be my favourite hobbyGrin

Gin96 · 18/06/2019 19:58

I love a nap, it is my second favourite hobby 😊 I could talk all day about how good each nap was 😂

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 21:59

yabbers Grin

well it seem majority think it’s ok however I think I’ll go get checked out and see if I’m anemic again (was during pregnancies) and ask about folate too. Thanks folks.
I’m off to bed. I can’t wait to get back to sleep and waste my life away for 7:30 hrs Wink

My husband does wake me up with his snoring most nights
Woah. Do not underestimate how much this may be disturbing your nights rest. Even if you think you get back to sleep quickly/only get woken a couple of times, you might be shocked to discover how much deep sleep it deprives you of. Do you have a Fitbit or similar? You could try monitoring your waking moments for a few nights with it. Or you could try sleeping separately for a few nights and see if you improve at all. As I mentioned earlier, I am b12 and folate deficient and on meds BUT when my husband is away working (like he was last week) despite doing everything alone all week with the children dogs etc and being up at six am, I feel by far more rested than when he is home. We do have an amicable agreement that he decamps to the spare room on particularly bad nights.

I have an afternoon nap most days. When the children come home from school I say I'm off for my nap now! I get up at 6am and I do 6 hours very physical work per day. I think its just habit. When I work until 5pm I'm absolutely fine without one.
I think I overdid todays though. I'm still awake Hmm

Singlenotsingle · 18/06/2019 23:41

On the Continent, it's normal to stop and have a siesta early in the afternoon.

Historydweeb · 18/06/2019 23:47

I do this 5 times a week at least. Set my alarm for a magical 25 minutes and wake up just in time to still be able to get to sleep that night.

FieryBiscuits14 · 18/06/2019 23:49

I nap most days if I can. I literally hit a wall if I don't. I'm in the middle of being diagnosed with MS but even before that I'd nap when my kids were babies and I'm sure I did it at university too.
Life wasted or sanity restored? I think I know which it is for me.

NewtonPulsifer · 19/06/2019 00:14

I am also a napper. I bloody love a peaceful daytime snooze and manage to sneak one in most days. I am so glad I am not alone in my hobby!

SecretWitch · 19/06/2019 00:23

My husband works over nights. I bloody love crawling back in bed with him for a nice nap in the late morning. I have terrible insomnia so don’t often get to sleep until 12 or 1 am and then have to be up for 6 to get my dd off. Sleep is precious to me.

GrumpyOHara · 19/06/2019 06:42

Napping every day is totally normal in a lot of other countries! Where I live everyone is up early (6/7) , then a 2 hour nap after lunch. People tend to go to bed a bit later though (10/11/12).

origamiunicorn · 19/06/2019 07:09

*I dont sleep more than 4 to 5 hours a night and am always glad when the summer comes because the sun wakes me up earlier.
Do you not realise that you have a finite number of minutes on earth and you are spending them in bed? *

If you carry on sleeping just 4 hours a night I think you'll find your finite minutes are shorter than
most.

ElizaPancakes · 19/06/2019 08:46

I could honestly take a short nap now. I am The Best at falling asleep.

Blarblarblar · 19/06/2019 09:32

@Myusernameismud ... my thyroid is underactive, they reckon it probably packed up during or just post pregnancy with dd, and I wasn't diagnosed until ds2 was nearly 2, so possibly very broken for four years!
I just presumed the killing bone crushing exhaustion was due to being a mother of three, 3day week working, shift working husband, until the almost constant pins and needles crept up to my knees and elbows and i stopped remembering going to bed at night! My TSH test was highest my gp had ever seen!

Naps rule!

Blarblarblar · 19/06/2019 09:45

missmighty well I think you have good reason then [shock

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 19/06/2019 09:49

i know @blarblarblar ...I might squeeze in a nap this afternoon, it's lovely and sunny, I was up early putting out the washing and I already did my scampering in the shed!
And I might walk the dog if Ds2 doesn't. Just to add to the justification :o

Blarblarblar · 19/06/2019 14:17

I was really trying not to but I need to have one.

The only time I felt like I needed to nap during the day was when I was severely anemic.

The feeling of not being able to carry on with sleep doesn't sound healthy to me. Agree with pps get your bloods checked.

I'm a healthy active 70 year old. I'm rarely in bed before midnight and never feel the need to nap during the day.

pigsDOfly · 19/06/2019 14:26

*carry on without sleep that should be, not with sleep.
