To take a nap almost daily

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 13:56

At some point almost everyday I feel like I can go on no more and just plonk down for a wee nap. I set my alarm for an hour but it usually lasts 35mins. Then I get a drink and carry on with my day. I can last till bed time then but I’m definitely flagging by 8 and I’ll be in bed no later than 10 most nights. Then I’m up at 6. I’m 43 healthy and fit.
Anyone else? Is this normal?
I run my own business, have two kids both at school or nursery. I’m not depressed.

I always had an afternoon nap when I worked from home. Now I'm in an office I work straight through. I miss the naps.

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 15:30

Ok that’s me just woken up from a snooze Smile. I’m so relieved I’m not alone. However I think I’ll start on some multi vitamins and see if that helps. I would like to be less tired.
I do exercise btw. I run a couple of times a week and go to the gym at the wknd. I’ve been depressed and during that time I would come in from work and just pass out. Could only just hold it together. I don’t feel like that. I feel well balanced mentally (apart from around my periods) most of the time now.

Get your thyroid levels checked.

AuntGinny · 18/06/2019 15:32

I will if I get the chance! I sleep badly at night but can always fall asleep mid afternoon if given the opportunity.

PerfectPeony2 · 18/06/2019 15:32

On my days I’m with DD I take a nap when she does. She gets up at about 5, and will nap at 8 so I’ll try to get some more sleep then get on with the rest of the day. I just really struggle with early starts.

Obviously on work days no chance for a nap but if I’m keeping busy I don’t get tired and I can power through.

EmeraldShamrock · 18/06/2019 15:33

There is a point every evening if I shut my eyes I would drop off, DS is wild so I won't dare.
I usually re-energize about 6 but then find it hard to winde down at bedtime.

Lovelycabinet · 18/06/2019 15:34

I used to do a job where I had a few hours break everyday during the day so napped for an hour or 1.5 hours. This went on for ten years. Didn't have any kids then. Didn't think anything of it really. Been working in an office for past 8 years so no opportunity to nap during the day now and weekends are too busy with kids.

mumofamenagerie I thought you had to be obese to have sleep apnea? My husband does wake me up with his snoring most nights. He’s very fit but recently I’ve been thinking maybe he should get checked because the snoring is unbearable Angry

I nap on days off, I need it :)

Lovelycabinet · 18/06/2019 15:36

Blarblarblar - Being obese isn't the only cause of sleep apnea. My son had adenoids which caused sleep apnea for him.

ElizaPancakes · 18/06/2019 15:36

I am like this most days. I work full time so often have half an hour when I get in.

Recently had bloods done and my full blood count is fine but I am very iron deficient. Unfortunately it’s due to carrying thallasaemia trait so I can’t take iron pills to make it better.

HappyPeopleDay · 18/06/2019 15:39

How is everyone getting their vitamin levels checked?

FizzBuzzBangWoof · 18/06/2019 15:42

We are all different but it doesn't sound normal to me if you are getting 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night

I'm same age and get a similar amount of sleep at night and it wouldn't cross my mind to have a nap during the day

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 15:43

What is thalasamia? Also would adenoids cause terrible snoring (husband not me)

I love a nap, vitamin levels are fine.
To an earlier poster - napping is quality time, why does everyone think you have to be up and about 24/7 to validate your existence!
Each to their own.

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 15:50

I fully agree gardia I see it like a bit of self care but my worry is I feel I need it and I just wanted to know if I was the only one. I keep this habit very secret in real life because I’m actually a bit ashamed.
I’m on the go all day except for it.

Most multi vits dont contain much iron (as it doesnt play nicely with others in vitamin form Smile) You might want to take a hard look at the contents and maybe consider individual supplements of ion and b vitamins instead. Also, is your hair getting thin? how is your weight maintenance?

Ated · 18/06/2019 15:53

On average you spend about 20 years of your life, idle in bed. What a waste when you could earn and learn, increase your skills, travel more, have fun, love more and enrich yourself. Watch the sun rise and set, take in the smells of fresh dew on the grass, early morning mists and the joy of an extra 20 years of life.

BananaCatto · 18/06/2019 15:56

I nap daily, I think it’s something about working for yourself. I get bored by lunch

Yeah, but sometimes I’d rather just stay in bed. I absolutely love a good nap.

theworldistoosmall · 18/06/2019 15:58

I have naps. I'm B12 deficient (cannot process the stuff) and have anaemia. Thought the anaemia would stop after hysterectomy, but also have chronic kidney disease. So, I've accepted that even when not depressed I will nap.

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 16:00

ated that all sounds lovely but it’s hard to do any of that when you feel like you are unable to keep your eyes open or think properly.
sea I am very physically active in my work and I also try and keep fit/eat healthy. I think I’m good in that respect.

Some people just appreciate a lot of sleep and jump at the opportunity to get a bit extra. I know I have no vitamin or mineral deficiencies but I love to kip.

Depression of course does make people very tired, exhausted even.

Even though I nap I still manage to do all the above. When my levels are normal I'm hyper and don't sleep much - couple of hours over a couple of days lol. So still get extra years in life lol

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 16:01

I’m definitely not bored Smile
