To take a nap almost daily

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 13:56

At some point almost everyday I feel like I can go on no more and just plonk down for a wee nap. I set my alarm for an hour but it usually lasts 35mins. Then I get a drink and carry on with my day. I can last till bed time then but I’m definitely flagging by 8 and I’ll be in bed no later than 10 most nights. Then I’m up at 6. I’m 43 healthy and fit.
Anyone else? Is this normal?
I run my own business, have two kids both at school or nursery. I’m not depressed.

I'm with @PerfectPeony2
I'd rather be in bed than take in the smell of fresh dew.

And OP, I love a nap. I very rarely get the chance, but when I do it's glorious.

LakieLady · 18/06/2019 16:10

I love a snooze! I was thinking of popping to bed for half an hour a little while ago, but then decided that as DP will want picking up from work any time between 4 and 5.30, he'd be bound to wake me up just after I'd dozed off.

I think I should have lived in some mediterranean country where siestas are the norm. That would really suit me.

Fresh sheets, lovely soft bedding and cute duvet set. Cup of tea and favourite pyjamas. As much as I like the outdoors, home is where the heart is and I love my sleep!

Moomin12345 · 18/06/2019 16:20

OP, how many hours of sleep do you get and how many do you actually need? For me 9 hours are optimal. Less than 7h and I'm a zombie. Recently I've been trying to get 9 to cut down on caffeine.

Littlehouse156 · 18/06/2019 16:22

Some people need more sleep than others. I live off 5 hrs. My sister needs 9 and goes to bed at 9.30 every night. The napping in the day is unusual to me but I’m sure lots do it

Insignificant0ther · 18/06/2019 16:26

I nap every day. I started when I was pregnant and my DS is 9 now, and I just haven't been able to ...not. Interesting that posters have said about iron and folate deficiency. I crash around 2pm every day and am in bed by 10pm, I just grind to a halt. If I don't get my nap I fall asleep on the train home from work or at my desk automatically!

ginghamtablecloths · 18/06/2019 16:29

Some people need more sleep than others and getting up at six would make me flag too. Your work must take it out of you - if you feel properly recharged after your nap I wouldn't worry too much, but have you had your iron levels checked? You may be anaemic.

blackteasplease · 18/06/2019 16:31

I love it too! Echoing that in some cultures it's normal.

I think it's another body clock thing like owls and larks. No one is right or wrong, although obviously it's not possible to nap at work!

HereForAdvice2019 · 18/06/2019 16:33

I could sleep 2 hours every day if dd would allow and napped too.. Have always been the same. If we're having a lazy day ill nap with her. She naps better at home anyway. If out and about she'll only nap 30mins.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 18/06/2019 16:37

Are you on any medication op?

Lovelycabinet · 18/06/2019 16:39

Yes my son had terrible snoring, that’s how he got diagnosed with adenoids!

Bluerussian · 18/06/2019 16:45

Agree that it is normal to have a day time sleep in some cultures. They take sleep far more seriously than we do, too. I don't know what it is about us, why we don't.

Like a poster above, I'd rather be in bed than smell the morning dew; having said that, I'd be happy to smell the morning dew and go back to bed afterwards :-).

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 16:47

I try get about 8 at least but with snoring husband I will often wake at least once. I sleep with one of the kids a couple times a week to get uninterrupted sleep.

I’m on no meds merry

I feel recharged and able to keep going now I’ve had a snooze. If it stays dry I will go for a run. I’ll be good now till about 8/8:30 then I’ll start flagging again.

By 3 I need to sleep most days. I have chronic pain and fatigue though

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 16:52

I’m sorry curious I have no such excuse

@Blarblarblar it’s a hereditary blood condition, it’s a bit like sickle cell but it affects those of Mediterranean heritage rather than black African heritage. I’m just a carrier so I’m not too affected by it but it does mean my body doesn’t absorb iron or create it as well as it should.

Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 16:58

No Mediterranean heritage here (unfortunately) I’m all Celtic heritage.

OP posts:
Blarblarblar · 18/06/2019 16:59

Not unfortunately I don’t have your condition which sounds hard

OP posts:
ThomasShelbysBunnet · 18/06/2019 17:07

I'm a Celt too and I nap most days. I just get really tired between work and ferrying the children around. They get home, fed, changed and go out with friends/ on a console/ various activities and I get a blanket on the sofa and have a little snooze with the dog. It's bliss.

2toe · 18/06/2019 17:13

I love a nap in the afternoon when off work and alone in the house. For me it’s the only really relaxing sleep I get, completely alone in the house without that feeling of having to be aware in case a child wakes up and needs me. As for those banging on about wasting your life, relaxing in any way you can is not a waste of time, it’s essential for physical and mental well being.
Do you have any down time apart from the nap? If you spent the day not doing much and napping then maybe that would be a worry but your life sounds very busy.

Yabbers · 18/06/2019 17:25

I dont sleep more than 4 to 5 hours a night and am always glad when the summer comes because the sun wakes me up earlier. Do you not realise that you have a finite number of minutes on earth and you are spending them in bed?

Why do people who sleep less feel they are superior to those who sleep more?

If you are so keen to use your finite hours on earth, why sleep for 5 hours? What a waste of those hours.

cookiemon666 · 18/06/2019 17:58

I have a life limiting illness and work more or less full time. On my days off I normally have a nap, just accept it for what it is now

Lovelycabinet · 18/06/2019 18:00

WhereForArtThouBray · 18/06/2019 18:03

I was like that and had iron and folate deficiency like previous posters. I can feel myself getting this way again, absolutely exhausted. I had a nap in the car this afternoon outside the school only 20 mins but I couldn't stay awake. Back to the docs for me I think.
