To take a nap almost daily

At some point almost everyday I feel like I can go on no more and just plonk down for a wee nap. I set my alarm for an hour but it usually lasts 35mins. Then I get a drink and carry on with my day. I can last till bed time then but I’m definitely flagging by 8 and I’ll be in bed no later than 10 most nights. Then I’m up at 6. I’m 43 healthy and fit.
Anyone else? Is this normal?
I run my own business, have two kids both at school or nursery. I’m not depressed.

Iron tablets (ferrous fumarate) fixed this for me.

haverhill · 18/06/2019 14:37

I love a daytime nap. It's quite normal in some countries, isn't it? Sleep is restorative and calming.

Excited101 · 18/06/2019 14:38

I’m a fairly frequent napper, I’m not able to nap every day but I would if I could.

lavenderbluedilly · 18/06/2019 14:39

I do this when I can. I function perfectly well without it, but I enjoy napping so much! I suppose taking a siesta is normal in many other countries

PhDone · 18/06/2019 14:39

My gran (late 80s now) has had a nap every day for almost her entire life!
She said when she was younger she'd come home from school at 4ish, have a short nap, then get on with homework etc.
Now she's older she has at least a 2 hour nap in the afternoon every day.
I remember when I went to stay with her when I was little, I'd get sent to bed with a book for an hour, or be allowed to watch a film.

bringincrazyback · 18/06/2019 14:44

I'm like this (minus the getting up at 6), but I have chronic fatigue.

Pipandmum · 18/06/2019 14:45

I love a nap but get one maybe s couple times a week. I don’t get much more than six hours sleep overnight though as I go to bed late and read for a bit. Plus wake up at least once to go to the loo!
A friend has a 30 min nap most days and is in bed by 10 if not earlier and loves a lie in. Some people just need more sleep.

Puffinhead · 18/06/2019 14:46

I’ve just woken up from a lovely nap!

DistanceCall · 18/06/2019 14:47

I live in Spain. That's perfectly normal Grin

And actually I read somewhere that 40 min is the perfect length for an energising nap - so you're doing just fine!

userxx · 18/06/2019 14:53

I call it a Nana Nap. I'd be worried if I felt the need to do that everyday.

presumedinnocence · 18/06/2019 14:53

I'm exactly the same! Get up at 5:30, go to bed before 10pm, have a nice nap every afternoon (usually 30min - 1 hour). I feel pretty fit and healthy too!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 18/06/2019 14:55

I love a nap! I nap much more in the winter but not averse to a snooze in the garden if it is a sunny day

I would say I am napping less than I used to though, having been taking VitD for almost a year, and general vitamins too, also had a couple of years of awful niagra periods, but a new mirena sorted that out, and there was no tutting at my iron levels last time I went to give blood, so the vitamins and stuff must be working!
Thyroid is shot to pieces though, although I am properly medicated for that, I often say as it took them 5 years to work out what was wrong so I have lots of catching up to do on quality sleep. :o

Dh is amazed at my ability to sleep, he has always worked shifts and is not good at napping unless he is allegedly watching tv and snoring from after supper till bed time. Angry ...but he has stopped doing that, mostly!

Ragwort · 18/06/2019 14:56

I think a nap is quite a good idea, I don’t have one every day, but I work part time & on the days I don’t work I love a nap. Like others I only sleep 6 hours at night, feel fine when I get up but an afternoon nap sets me up for the rest of the day Grin.

Myusernameismud · 18/06/2019 14:58

MsMighty did you have an under or overactive thyroid? I think I'm going to ask for mine to be tested. I just don't think it's normal to be this tired all the time.

forkfun · 18/06/2019 14:59

I love napping. Wish I could do it more. I know I'm someone who needs a bit more sleep than average though. Have always been that way and am at peace with it.

Elderflower14 · 18/06/2019 14:59

I nap most days...

BossAssBitch · 18/06/2019 15:01

I used to be amazing at napping, could sleep on a penny rope or a washing line... now I’m mid forties I just don’t need as much sleep so the urge rarely arises. Annoying! A Saturday afternoon disco nap felt so indulgent and luxuriant..

dottiedodah · 18/06/2019 15:06

Im pretty much the same, and have been for a long time now!.If you get up at 6am each morning ,and have a little nap around 2 3 pm .You will have been awake for about 8/9 hours ,and presumably on the go all that time!.Many people seem to be proud of the fact they need very little sleep ,but its not healthy TBH.If I wake early ,I find it hard to get to 10 30 (our bedtime) w/o a nap. (sometimes fall asleep about 9pm and cant get to sleep in bed then)if I havent slept during the day!

Bouncingbelle · 18/06/2019 15:15

I thought this was normal! 4pm every day like clockwork, been the same since i was at school (barring when i was working full time and just couldnt!)

Ounce · 18/06/2019 15:16

Naps rock!

Go for it OP - 35 mins is nothing. Don't listen to all the clucking about deficiencies: 40 winks mid-afternoon is perfectly normal and healthy.

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/06/2019 15:17

I love napping, I do at least three times a week, I also often go to bed at 7 with a book and am asleep by 8.

foreverhanging · 18/06/2019 15:20

I have a nearly 2 year old and we nap together Grin

Amibeingdaft81 · 18/06/2019 15:22

Replace that nap with some exercise and it will utterly rejuvenate you I reckon

yearinyearout · 18/06/2019 15:26

If there was nobody else in the house I could easily do the same. I can’t relax if I can hear DH pottering about so rarely get the chance! It’s meant to be good for us to nap. Enjoy 😉

mumofamenagerie · 18/06/2019 15:26

I have sleep apnoea and for a very long while believed I was just lazy. Turns out I'm not, and a CPAP machine has changed my life. Don't discount it as a possibility if you don't fit the general profile of a sleep apnoea sufferer - I'm female, thirties, non-smoker, non-drinker, active, BMI of 23, slim neck - but get it checked out if everything else comes back clear. I've gone from needing a nap every day (I used to sleep in my car on my lunch break) to only once a week, if that (more if I'm ill of course).
