I’ve just been reading another thread where lots of posters talk about how attractive they were when slimmer, as though being overweight is out of their control!

I definitely don’t want to come across as negative or patronising, but for the vast majority of people (excluding those with health needs, of course), weight is entirely within your control!

I’ve always been moderately slim, but in the last few years I’ve lost about 3 stone. At almost 40 I’m the smallest I’ve ever been! To achieve that I;

Got into yoga.
Eat less calories than I burn (monitored on fitness tracker)
Swim and weight train sometimes.
Drink less alcohol.
Will do random, ad hoc exercise through the day, squats whilst the stirring the food etc.

So many people seem sad about their weight gain on here, but it’s absolutely a choice! If you’re unhappy change it! It’s absolutely possible Grin

I'm squatting right now

behindlocknumbernine · 17/06/2019 21:45

So, effectively you are saying I don't want it badly enough?
That's another stick to beat my fat self with then.
Thanks for that.

Iwalkedaway · 17/06/2019 21:47

I work full time, have children and I’m a single parent. I get up early and do yoga sessions from YouTube in my living room! If I have a spare 5 minutes I will exercise, I run to school, we go for bike rides. I will do 20 minutes before bed! Sometimes I do squats whilst waiting for clients etc! It really really is possible for everyone if you’re motivated, it really is!

So you’ve never actually had a weight problem but you want to tell other people how easy it is to lose weight? Here’s a thought.... maybe you find it easy because you are not genetically disposed to put on weight?

TheEagle · 17/06/2019 21:49

Thanks Hilaria Baldwin.

Now I know your secrets I’ll just lunge around my kitchen while prepping for the day tomorrow morning. That last stone will melt off me.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 17/06/2019 21:49

Pics or it didn't happen

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 17/06/2019 21:49

Are you being paid to spout this tripe?

NannyRed · 17/06/2019 21:49

Wow! A 30 something telling us menopausal oldies how we should live! I was 6 stone all my adult life unti I hit 50. Why didn’t I think of eating less (I eat less now than I ever have)
Can you tell me how to control my overheating and broken sleep too.

jaseyraex · 17/06/2019 21:49

THAT IS BRAND NEW INFORMATION.

Iwalkedaway · 17/06/2019 21:50

*and I’m posting in my rest periods between exercises tonight! With respect, those people telling themselves it isn’t possible, you’re your own worst enemy, because it absolutely is achievable.

Also what is the cure for 'I want to be slim but I want cake more' ?

WolfhoundsofLove · 17/06/2019 21:51

🖕

Rosalee1234 · 17/06/2019 21:51

Yes it is possible and attainable for most people. But dieting takes a lot of will power. And a lot of people who are unhappy with their weight may not have that for a range of reasons - life style too busy/stressful, reliance on comfort eating or depression. Comfort eating is probably the big one that applies to most.

Oysterbabe · 17/06/2019 21:52

Well now we've sorted that out maybe you can find some anorexics and suggest to them that they try eating more.

speakout · 17/06/2019 21:53

OP if this is not a wind up I would stop digging.

The sides of the hole will fall in soon,

Iwalkedaway · 17/06/2019 21:53

Slinky, if people prefer cake that’s totally different, it’s the people who are really sad that they’re overweight but don’t think they can change it! It blows my mind! It’s such an easy thing to change. Habits, commitment and goal is all it takes!

speakout · 17/06/2019 21:54

and I’m posting in my rest periods between exercises tonight!

I love it!!

Twotinydictators · 17/06/2019 21:54

Of course its within our control (disorders, disabilities and medications aside), but you said in your OP that you'd always been moderately slim. Packing on a few pounds because you've over indulged a bit is not the same as having issues with food and using it as your crutch to cope with life (which is what some people do, myself included).

Stopping drinking is essentially within an alcoholics control, but it's a bit more complex than that isn't it?

Many people are struggling with their bodies, identities and self esteem and it's a hugely difficult issue. Your post is misguided and irritating and has others have pointed out what you have posted is common sense (Eat less! Exercise more!) and people don't need it pointing out to them. Education is no longer the core issue here.

Macca84 · 17/06/2019 21:55

Seriously, OP - stop. This thread was a bad idea. You have no fucking clue what anyone else is going through. You're not going to change anything by spouting patronising bullshit.

LL83 · 17/06/2019 21:56

People can be sad that the are overweight and also want to eat cake, be at a desk most of the day and unable to walk the school runs.

You are very patronising, I hope you don't say this to real life friends.

Iwalkedaway · 17/06/2019 21:56

I’ll take the advice above and give up, but most people who are really unhappy with their weight don’t need to be!

OP posts:
WolfhoundsofLove · 17/06/2019 21:56

OP now that you’ve sorted your body, do you think it would be a good idea to work on your intellectual development? And stop nicking all the exclamation marks, leave some for the rest of us.

LemonRedwood · 17/06/2019 21:56

I just wanted to point out how easy it is once you decide it’s what you really want.

When I decided it was what I really wanted, I got down to under 4 stone. After intervention and a lot of help, I've spent the last 16 years being slightly overweight. On balance, that's healthier for me.

Fuck off OP.

werideatdawn · 17/06/2019 21:57

You're being a dick.

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 17/06/2019 21:57

@lovelylondonsky

I personally lost 5 stone just by doing lunges whilst waiting for the kettle to boil
