AIBU to find these passive aggressive and annoying? I keep being sent these things in support of eg autism or cancer.

Since both my kids are on the spectrum and DH is in remission from cancer, I feel that I've done my bit with this and don't need someone saying I'm not their 'real' friend because I don't want to pass on some stupid FB comment.

DragonTrainer3 · 17/06/2019 10:05

I also have never once found them of any benefit to the people they're supposed to be supporting!

Figgygal · 17/06/2019 10:06

Agreed they are just twee bollocks I never take any notice of them

x2boys · 17/06/2019 10:07

Yep they are mostly posted by people who have no idea about the realities of autism or cancer etc.

justmyview · 17/06/2019 10:08

I ignore them all

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/06/2019 10:09

Just ignore them. If anyone does have the cheek to say anything, which they won't, tell them you have a personal policy not to pass on chain letters and spam posts.

It's like these silly pointless things to 'raise awareness of breast cancer' by posting about the colour of your knickers... Ignore and don't feel pressured to take part.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 17/06/2019 10:09

I always think ‘if you were my real friend you’d know me better than to send me this bollocks’

Cobh · 17/06/2019 10:11

I'd be defriending anyone who had an IQ low enough to post that kind of nonsense.

DragonTrainer3 · 17/06/2019 10:12

Haha @BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil, exactly what I'm thinking!

OP posts:
x2boys · 17/06/2019 10:14

It was like those no make-up selfie,s that did the rounds on facebook a few years ago for " cancer awareness ," I'm not sure how'd it raised awareness and most people just did it for the " you look gawjus hun" comments and didn't actually donate any money.Hmm

The80sweregreat · 17/06/2019 10:16

I ignore and scroll past. I support people in real life in person as much as I can. This is more important.
These type of things on fb do not help anyone in my opinion.

ICanWearMyBoobsUpOrDown · 17/06/2019 10:24

I deleted someone for this very recently.

A huge post about all the babies that should be here but aren't and saying anyone who doesn't repost doesn't care, she tagged me in it as I have 2 dc who have died and she tagged others who have had miscarriages.

I was astounded that she would tag me in such a thing for all to see, she wasn't even around when my children died and I very, very rarely post anything about them on Facebook, and then to suggest that I didn't care if I didn't repost was just the icing on the cake.

Deleted and blocked, virtue signalling arsehole.

GreenwoodLane · 17/06/2019 10:28

These boil my piss. Particularly the asd and cancer ones. Sil died of cancer in her 40’s. Ds has asd. Fortunately I’m seeing them less and less.

WhiteDust · 17/06/2019 10:29

It's the FB version of chuggers in the street who say 'Do you care about the mass slaughtering of animals...'
Make you feel like shit for walking by (or scrolling past in this case).

ICanWearMyBoobsUpOrDown · 17/06/2019 10:33

Chuggers can get to fuck as well, I know how much they get paid, and it's way more than I do. They often come dancing up to me in their ridiculous way trying to engage me in conversation and get told to bugger off. Guilt tripping people for not caring when they don't support the charities they are representing that particular week either.

S1naidSucks · 17/06/2019 10:34

Oh yes. Those and the special diets that cure cancer. I had one friend post those constantly after my husband died, yup, from cancer. Send a heart to a friend via private message, without saying anything. Apparently this magically supports those with cancer, just fuck off. Facebook I can just about cope with but those fucking messages that you get sent! I’m sending this to 10 of the strongest/bravest/best sisters I know. If you send me one back I’ll know you feel the same about me. I.don’t! Now, fuck off!

Butchyrestingface · 17/06/2019 10:36

I blithely ignore them, even when I’ve been mass tagged in.

And make a mental note about the poster.

gingerpaleandproud · 17/06/2019 10:38

Those things drive me crackers. I just don't understand what people are thinking when they share them. My MIL does it a lot, and sends similar shite via messenger too. I always completely ignore it so I'm not sure why she persists!

bluebluezoo · 17/06/2019 10:39

I never get the “raising awareness” bullshit.

Roughly translated it seem = raising more money for big charities and make you feel like you’ve personally cured cancer.

Who isn’t aware of cancer/autism? In all it’s forms. Apart from the stroke ones I’ve never seen any of them give any advice about self awareness and diagnosis, it’s always “park run to raise awareness of breast cancer”, “gofundme to raise awareness of brain tumours”.

I am also hate the “repost if you love your son” ones. Nah, can’t stand mine so I won’t, thanks.

As for the “don’t just share, copy and paste” ones, wtf is that all about?

ffs74 · 17/06/2019 10:40

Always get annoyed by these!
The worst ones are 'share this if you hate childhood cancer' I mean ffs who on the planet doesn't hate cancer, such pointless shite to post on social media!!

bluebluezoo · 17/06/2019 10:41

@ICanWearMyBoobsUpOrDown

How much do chuggers get paid, out of interest? I’ve always wondered if they get more or less than research scientists...

SeasideSoul · 17/06/2019 10:42

I hate these too! Although I will raise you those ridiculous 'warnings' that people share. Such as the hilarious "if you are being mugged, enter your pin backwards at a cashpoint and it calls the police". God help you if your pin number is a palindrome. You'd be forever having to apologise when the police turned up every time you drew out a tenner.

Sparklesocks · 17/06/2019 10:45

Pet peeve of mine too, clearly I’m not pro-children having cancer just because I don’t copy and paste a fb status.

awesmum · 17/06/2019 10:46

These annoy me so much. I hide the posts.

thenightsky · 17/06/2019 10:48

As for the “don’t just share, copy and paste” ones, wtf is that all about?

Yes. I don't understand that either. Can anyone shed light on why copy and pasting is different to sharing?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/06/2019 10:52

My NotDF does this. DSis and I ignore.

I assume he uses that to prove to himself how nasty we are! I don't care!
