AIBU to find these passive aggressive and annoying? I keep being sent these things in support of eg autism or cancer.

Since both my kids are on the spectrum and DH is in remission from cancer, I feel that I've done my bit with this and don't need someone saying I'm not their 'real' friend because I don't want to pass on some stupid FB comment.

OP posts:
ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 17/06/2019 10:54

I usually just scroll past, and inwardly roll my eyes. But I think it’s worse when it’s an issue you’ve been personally affected by (as in OP’s case). I did block the one person who, after disbelieving me about my ex, posted something about supporting awareness of all forms of domestic violence.

PeoniesarePink · 17/06/2019 10:58

My mum is horrendous for sharing shit like this Hmm as well as dogs/missing people that were lost and found about 3 years ago...........

I replied once about one of those say amen for this little child ones along the lines "oh my god, all those billions spent on medical research and all the time we just needed to share a photo on FB.........".

Hasn't stopped her. I give up.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 17/06/2019 11:04

I went on a right rant a while ago. Someone posted the "I'm always listening" one, which used phone numbers that were American in origin but had been bastardised to fit a UK format. It was blatantly obvious from a 2 second google.

I ranted on and on about how the poster was so thoughtless that not only did the clearly not give a shit beyond mindless virtue signal reposting, had anyone desperate seen their stealth boast, they would have got a "unobtainable" signal anyway.

Self-absorbed idiots. They don't want to actually help anyone, they just want it to look like they are.

ChicCroissant · 17/06/2019 11:04

Can I add to the list of annoyances any FB post about illegal immigrants claiming benefits and anyone who posts at least 3 memes a day that start 'you'd never know this about me but' because we all know and are reminded constantly by you.

I ignore all the ones already mentioned upthread, and anything that asks me to click so that animals get food/unicorns get parents/clickbait crap.

TixieLix · 17/06/2019 11:06

I ignore all of these 'special cause' emails now if they're accompanied by the phrase "I know which of my Friends will share this" because I refuse to be guilted or shamed into sharing someone else's posts. I have in the past shared a suicide awareness post, but I started getting them too regularly. Same goes for those posts with pictures of a sad dog or something with the words "I bet I don't get even one share".

Illberidingshotgun · 17/06/2019 11:12

As well as everything below, I hate the holiday company ones that state that if you like and share the post, you're in with a chance of winning a free holiday. NO YOU ARE NOT. These are fake pages, they are scammers.

I keep explaining to people that you look to see if there is a blue tick by the company name (there won't be), and under page transparency look to see when it was created (usually no more than a few days ago). Yet they still share the same shit all the time. Last week there was one with a picture of the CEO of Haven and lots of gold envelope. Only a week or so before this same photo had been used as a picture of the CEO of Centre Parks!

Rant over.

ICanWearMyBoobsUpOrDown · 17/06/2019 11:14

bluebluezoo I know a few people who have done this, they get between £250 and £300 per week basic, then they get a bonus of around £30 for signing you up, then an additional bonus of around £15 If your direct debit is active for 3 months. You have to be signed up for around a year to even pay the chuggers. Plus they get accommodation and transport costs. I still couldn't bring myself to do it even though the money is great.

Goodideaatthetime007 · 17/06/2019 11:18

One turned up,on my feed this morning. I couldn’t tell you who posted it or what it was about as I just scrolled straight past it. They are very annoying.

BlingLoving · 17/06/2019 11:20

it's also only a certain kind of person who does this too. I've managed to ditch or block most people who put these kind of posts up but a few I can't - BIL for example.

These people are also the same ones who post ridiculous conspiracy theories and/or overly gushing birthday/fathersday/mothersday/etc posts when we all know they have shitty relationships in real life.

Drum2018 · 17/06/2019 11:23

Scroll on and ignore. I don't even read them. It's the same people that share them. I should probably delete those people from my friends list Hmm

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/06/2019 11:23

You utter fucking witches

YOU DID THAT didn't you?

I went from here to my facebook and guess what... Oh woe is me and all retired peeps, veterans, fluffy bunnies, etc.. be the 1%...

Crinkle77 · 17/06/2019 11:23

I think these are attention seeking posts and I ignore all of them. They're a bit like chain letters that we used to do years ago. I ignored them too.

Fibbke · 17/06/2019 11:24

I hate these too! Although I will raise you those ridiculous 'warnings' that people share. Such as the hilarious "if you are being mugged, enter your pin backwards at a cashpoint and it calls the police". God help you if your pin number is a palindrome. You'd be forever having to apologise when the police turned up every time you drew out a tenner

GrinGrin

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 17/06/2019 11:24

Inbox me hun x

Downunderduchess · 17/06/2019 11:26

Yep... hate them, never share. It's like daring you to prove your friendship with them. Nope.

JemSynergy · 17/06/2019 11:27

I ignore most things on facebook.

ICanWearMyBoobsUpOrDown · 17/06/2019 11:27

I always post snopes links under the 'A man climbed in the back of a car while a woman was paying for petrol' or 'there's a new gang in the area, they get a child to cry in the middle of the street so you take them home and a gang is waiting to murder you', they usually get taken down pretty quickly.

I think I may be a Facebook twat with my intolerance of all things attention seeking Grin

Fibbke · 17/06/2019 11:29

yeah I am a facebook twat like that too

I mostly ignore but sometimes I just can't sit on my hands if it is truly idiotic and scare mongering

ZaZathecat · 17/06/2019 11:32

It surprises me how some of my 'sensible' friends share this stuff. I always ignore, along with the ones that say 'share this if you love your daughter' or whatever.

The 'copy and paste instead of share' thing, I assume is so that each post looks like someone has written it themselves and is therefore more likely to be read by their friends.

PotterHead1985 · 17/06/2019 11:41

Add in when you are suddenly added to random fucking fb groups that turn out to be gobshites flogging mlm crap. It's always cos they have a stupid competition to win a fucking toothpaste or something for whoever adds the most people. Add me to one of them and I unfriend you. Angry

Fibbke · 17/06/2019 11:42

Oh god, yes, missing dogs from the USA are my faves

soulrunner · 17/06/2019 11:43

I love the ‘fake advice stealth boast’ ones

‘ guys, just in case anyone else is climbing K2 this month, the ladder bridge is a bit wobbly across the first crevasse’

ClosdesMouches · 17/06/2019 11:45

YANBU. I speed scroll past and for repeat offenders I mute them for a while.

Fibbke · 17/06/2019 11:45

yeah, or ' does anyone know where I can get really cheap flights to Jamaica/Vietnam/Florida for two weeks in August?'

yeah theres this amazing thing called the internet

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 17/06/2019 11:46

These type of posts (in my experience) are always posted by attention seeking twats.
