To ask what to do about Boris

I get how it works. We elect parties to reporesnt ya. Their members elect their leaders.

But I feel so strongly that I do not want Boris Johnson to represent Britain as our leader.

Yet I feel so powerless and like an observer watching the Tory party elect someone because of internal politics that has nothing to do with good leadership, integrity and actually leading the country.

What are the options for action open to us?

@Dongdingdong Trump has been claiming credit for the economy and unemployment his entire term.

Fiscal policy takes about two years to come have an impact on the real economy. Trump hasn't been in power 3 years, he's been in power two and a bit (took office end of Jan 2017) He passed his first piece of fiscal policy in November 2017 and they only applied to the fiscal year of 2018. So no he can't really take credit for the performance of the economy, especially as all of the metrics ( except the deficit which is getting bigger) in exactly the same way as it did under Obama.

Zipee · 20/06/2019 15:41

@TFBundy you don't seem to mind Boris being mates with a white supremacist or the Saudis, or the Tories giving money to shipping companies that have no ships.

Unfinishedkitchen · 20/06/2019 15:43

The US economy is doing well despite Trump who seems hell bent on ruining it as well as starting a new war with Iran which I’m sure we’ll be dragged into if we want a trade deal.

Obama inherited a shitstorm and an economy in the doldrums. He implemented policies and initiatives despite constant blocking from Republicans, who cared more about hurting him than helping their country. These started taking off in his second term and have been continuing upwards.

Trump has done nothing but rant and rave, he doesn’t even have a full cabinet to make policies. When it turns to shit again due to his poor leadership he’ll be long gone.

I’m also gobsmacked at those who seem hellbent in trying to make our current clusterfuck of a situation about Labour and the terrible prejudice faced by upper class white men who went to Eton.

TFBundy doesn’t give a shiny shit about Alexander Johnson’s comments about Muslims, Africans, homosexuals or Liverpudlians (plus anyone I’ve missed). Prejudiced actions and comments apparently only matter when faced by upper class white men from Eton or if Jeremy Corbyn said it.

Well the Queen had to shake hands with Robert Mugabe - doesn’t mean she agrees with him!

Boris is only concerned with Boris. He carried through big projects as London Mayor which were started by others. The Olympics and Crossrail for example. The idea of Boris bikes was hardly new. He was an utterly useless and frankly embarrassing Foreign Secretary not to mention endangering the life of Nazanin Z-R.

I heard his biographer on the radio this morning. Sonia Purnell couldn’t find a good word to say about him. And how many children does he have? He won’t say but he’s a serial shagger! Awful that we look like having a PM with no morals and only concerned about himself. Also he has no friends in the EU. They dislike him so how will he open any negotiations?

I’m sick of people making excuses for a 54 year old - “it’s Boris”! Yes it is. Not across his brief, serial philanderer, liar and avoider of scrutiny. A buffoon and a wordsmith. Intelligent - no doubt - as long as the end result is about him. Awful prospect.

I don't see the point in getting so worked up about Boris or his buffoonery. If he is as bad as his track record, according to leftists, he will fail at the next general election which is not too long to wait. Then you can gloat for the next four or eight years that Corbyn is in power whilst saving the country...

Zipee · 20/06/2019 16:00

@tfbundy, no not whatabouterry at all, a critcism about consistency.

What is whatabouterry is that you defend every critique of Boris by saying What about Jeremy Corbyn.

Ironic.

Seriously what has Boris got behind the scenes on everyone to keep bouncing back the way he does?

Is it business deals? Surely somewhere it comes back to money.

What we can tell from what’s in the public domain he does what he wants regardless of the rules.

Jeremy Corbyn and Boris as so dangerous in their own ways because of the questionabilty of their character and choices over time.

Can we get the NZ prime minister in on supply? (Joke-ish!!!!)

Boris will be PM yes.

A politician shaking hands with someone does not mean they are friends.

The Iranian state ? He has been critical of the Iranian state as well as supportive in some matters.

Boris has made, and had to apologise for far more racist comments than the Burka one.

You do use whatabouterry when anyone criticises Boris.

itwaseverthus · 20/06/2019 16:39

Maybe we're in agreement they both suck in their own special ways Grin

Zipee · 20/06/2019 16:41

Shall we also remember what Boris Johnson said about Liverpool fans and Hillsborough? Especially the fact that he continued the lie about the disaster being caused by drunken fans.

mummmy2017 · 20/06/2019 22:09

Remember the bloke , time traveller...
Boris and Trump. And we leave EU....
