To ask what to do about Boris

I get how it works. We elect parties to reporesnt ya. Their members elect their leaders.

But I feel so strongly that I do not want Boris Johnson to represent Britain as our leader.

Yet I feel so powerless and like an observer watching the Tory party elect someone because of internal politics that has nothing to do with good leadership, integrity and actually leading the country.

What are the options for action open to us?

Given that moderate Tory MPs are saying they’d support a no confidence vote if Boris is PM, he won’t last long before we’re all heading for the polling station again. Christ alone knows what chaos will ensue then.

This is my fear. BJ gets in; he will not be able to deliver the Brexit the Tory ultras want; GE; voting pattern of European elections is repeated; the left is a mess because of JC; we end up with Farage as PM.

lljkk · 19/06/2019 22:14

Farage only wants his single obsession, once we crash out he's not really got political ambitions beyond achieving that.

I don't believe BxP can get a majority or even be the largest single party in UK Parliament under FPTP system.

camelliavi · 19/06/2019 23:25

Just... pray he doesn't get in?... or pray he doesn't last more than a few months as PM before being declared incompetent? I can't believe he's doing so well... or can I... no common sense... that said I wouldn't trust any of them to do a great job, and Boris would be my least likely choice. The bus lie the morning the results came in amongst so many other things!

camelliavi · 19/06/2019 23:26

He would make a horrible PM. I'm all for forming "the common sense party"

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 19/06/2019 23:27

It's a bit late now, but the answer was to join the Conservative party.

Writersblock2 · 19/06/2019 23:28

He’s as much of a caricature as Trump is. So pretty fitting right now.

Fibbke · 20/06/2019 07:47

He's nothing like Trump. Although he's a big bloke with mad hair so it's a nice lazy comparison to make.

slipperywhensparticus · 20/06/2019 07:55

I prefer brown to boris any day of the week he was right to call that woman a bigot she bloody was one

Alsohuman · 20/06/2019 07:58

He’s a caricature, which is what writersblock2 said. The laziness is in not reading her post properly.

leckford · 20/06/2019 08:00

Sadly our politicians all seem fairly pathetic currently, Magic Grandpa and his leftist cult, whoever is running the Lib Dem’s some Boris is probably the least worse option

Fibbke · 20/06/2019 08:02

He's a caricature why exactly?

mummmy2017 · 20/06/2019 08:02

At what point will people actually understand just how powerless they are

Fibbke · 20/06/2019 08:02

And what of?

Fibbke · 20/06/2019 08:03

Boris is definitely the best of a terrible bunch.

Fibbke · 20/06/2019 08:04

If anyone is a caricature it's Corbyn. He could be a spitting image puppet of the weedy uber left.

Alsohuman · 20/06/2019 08:08

Boris is a caricature of an overgrown public school boy, full of bluster, loud, puffed up with his own importance, the kind of upper class English man who makes you cringe when they shout loudly and slowly at people who don’t speak English.

BarbarianMum · 20/06/2019 08:08

Im trying to think about him as a vaccine. An unpleasant little parasite which, if injected into the body politic, will protect us from shitheads for years to come.

Of course, in the short-term, the side effects may be pretty unpleasant.

Towelsareblue · 20/06/2019 08:09

It's all awful but I can't help but be fascinated by how the whole thing will play out..

Zipee · 20/06/2019 08:13

Let him in, let him fail, then people can stop believing the tripe about the benefits of brexit.

Unfinishedkitchen · 20/06/2019 08:14

I don’t know why anyone who isn’t a Tory member is even wasting their time watching the Tory debates to find out which latest entitled ex Eton schoolboy has been coronated. The competitors only give a shit about the 160k voting members.

Apparently the EU are undemocratic despite holding a multi country wide election where everyone over the age of 18 was eligible to vote but this will be the 2nd ‘leader’ installed without a manifesto anyone has had a chance to make an opinion on. Johnson only cares about the 160k Brexit ultras which now make up the Tory membership.

However, me and I’m sure every other remain voter and centrist leaver is biding their time for when it inevitably turns to shit. I give it to November 1st when he can’t deliver the impossible.

Alsohuman · 20/06/2019 08:18

I don’t think it will take as long as that @unfinishedkitchen. End of September is where my money is and then back to the polling stations again.

Unfinishedkitchen · 20/06/2019 08:19

Let them crown him. The no neal Brexiters are like crack heads in their single minded craziness and clearly have to hit rock bottom before they will agree to climb back up.

He will have no choice but to inflict major austerity on the demographics who vote for him.

NationalAnthem · 20/06/2019 08:30

Bloody Corbyn got us in this mess - his presence is allowing this shit show to continue...labour need to sort themselves out and provide a viable alternative to the "best of a very bad lot!"

Alsohuman · 20/06/2019 08:35

No, Corbyn didn’t get us in this mess, Cameron did. Corbyn hasn’t got us out of it, I grant you.

Pa1oma · 20/06/2019 08:55

It’s obvious that he’s deluded re- any renegotiations before Oct 31st, so we are heading for no deal. But they won’t get no deal through Parliament. So what then?

It’s astonishing when you’re watching a debate of prospective PMs - every one of them acknowledging that a no deal will be a disaster for the economy, yet nevertheless it’s a necessary disaster because “democracy.” Confused

But “the people” didn’t know they were voting for this.

Plus it was hardly a landslide victory to “Leave” was it? In a GE that would be a Hung Parliament! Plus that would only hold for 4 years, this is forever.

It’s like lemmings running towards the edge of a cliff. Pride before a fall and all that.

I think they’ll go down as some of the most disastrous politicians in history and I can’t believe this is unfolding before my eyes. Britain is the laughing stock of Europe. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Bloody fools.
