padded cards!? The JOY of those boxed delights! Shiny satin...often with a tassel or bow to complete the beauty!

I remember Valentine's Day ones were the best!

Yes! I used to see them in the card shops and long for one someday. The notions I held about what constituted a devoted romantic boyfriend Confused Grin

Redshoeblueshoe · 14/06/2019 14:10

Ha ha ha ha I do
I hope someone can post some wonderful examples Grin

Aprinceinapaupersgrave · 14/06/2019 14:11

My dad used to buy these for my mum. I assumed I would receive them when I was grown up too (I didn't!)

Ski4130 · 14/06/2019 14:13

I was looking for on the other day, to buy as a joke for someone - can't find them for love nor money, and I trawled some really cruddy shops looking!

cooliebrown · 14/06/2019 14:13

yeah, and they used to smell really nice too

Krazykitty · 14/06/2019 14:15

Ah yes I remember them too Grin

I would always hope my boyfriend would buy me one, but they were so expensive, around £5 weren’t they Grin

TroysMammy · 14/06/2019 14:15

I remember them. Especially the one which said "To my darling wife". My then boyfriend couldn't remember if Fiancee had one or two e's at the end so he went for wife. Considering Fiance probably had a bear tinkering with a car and Fiancee had a bear in a flowery hat didn't occur to him. Also we never got engaged either, I just went straight from girlfriend to wife.

InDubiousBattle · 14/06/2019 14:16

I remember those, my grandma always got me one. They're up there with that furry wall paper (what is that called?)in 80's chic!

Yes!!

Can't get them anymore? What's wrong with society these days huh?

AryaStarkWolf · 14/06/2019 14:17

hahaha yeah

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 14/06/2019 14:18

Padded boxes of choc but not cards. I remember the cards you'd get as a kid that had little plastic windows to shove a couple of quid in - you knew you got one from the weight/bulkiness before you even opened it and out of politeness still pretended you were surprised when you opened it Grin

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 14/06/2019 14:18

The donkey one 😂😂

WhatHaveIFound · 14/06/2019 14:19

Yes, i remember those. My older sister bought her boyfriend a massive one. It must have weighed a lot but luckily she wasn't posting it.

RomanyQueen · 14/06/2019 14:19

I remember those yes. It was something special to get one.
I had a few Christening, welcome baby, and first year B'day cards like this.

isabellerossignol · 14/06/2019 14:20

My sister used to get these and loads of Sad Sam cuddly toys etc from her boyfriend. He was a controlling abusive arse who ground her down into a shadow of her former self. Consequently I have always viewed the type of man who went in for huge displays of ostentatious affection with a lot of suspicion...A bit like that scene in Friends where Ross sends all the crap to Rachel's office to mark his territory.

ILoveCrunchyAutumnLeaves · 14/06/2019 14:20

The card factory still sell them, I got my mum one for mother's day last year.

SilverySurfer · 14/06/2019 14:21

Yep I remember them - they mostly came with sickeningly, sickly sweet (almost) rhyming messages. My DM loved them - the sicklier (no such word) the better Grin

Shimy · 14/06/2019 14:22

Some went even a step further & better, when you opened them a tune would play Grin.

You could be talking about my sister too. Fortunately she kicked him out in the end but funny how I don't remember those giant padded cards with any fond nostalgia.

Troels · 14/06/2019 14:23

I remember my Mum getting a valentines one with a teddy on the front holding a red heart. I thought it was the best thing ever.

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/06/2019 14:27

I was partial to a nice Christmas card with a close-up photo of a Christmas tree bauble with splodges of glitter highlighting the baubly-ness.

AlexaAmbidextra · 14/06/2019 14:27

Do you remember the cards that when you opened them, a bunch of flowers or something sprung up from the middle? Also, cards that were perfumed. So much better than Jackie Lawson. 😄

NameChangeNugget · 14/06/2019 14:29

I once received a padded Christmas card, with a photo of a soft focus candle on it.

Still scarred by it Grin
