padded cards!? The JOY of those boxed delights! Shiny satin...often with a tassel or bow to complete the beauty!

I remember Valentine's Day ones were the best!

I still have some of the ones my DH used to send me. I thought this was why I haven't had one recently.

Now I just get singing penguins.

PrincessScarlett · 14/06/2019 17:07

I've also seen padded cards in Card Factory recently.

x2boys · 14/06/2019 17:07

Pound notes, always felt like more money than pound coins( also old gimmer)

TheQueef · 14/06/2019 17:08

They all said 'please Mr postman do bend' as though you would get that through the post office counter.

TSSDNCOP · 14/06/2019 17:09

I still think I’ve found treasure when I find loose pound coins in my bag or a pocket Blush

LadySainsburySeal · 14/06/2019 17:15

Padded cards! I remember them well. My boyfriend bought me one with the same design as the one my dad bought my mum one Valentine's Day.

Boy was she pissed off! Grin

AdoraBell · 14/06/2019 17:15

I remember these. Boyfriend bought me one and sister’s BFs bought them too.

S1naidSucks · 14/06/2019 17:17

I used to love getting the big A1 padded cards. I probably ended up with enough to insulate a small room. 😁

Ukelou · 14/06/2019 17:18

Do you remember the cards that had multiple choice type questions in them your wannabe boyfriend gave them to and you filled in your answer and returned.

Violetparis · 14/06/2019 17:18

Made me smile, haven't seen or given these a second thought for years Smile

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 14/06/2019 17:19

Oh I loved a padded card! I still remember how delighted I was to get one with a kitten on it from my mum for my 7th birthday.

3timeslucky · 14/06/2019 17:22

I got one for Christmas in 1982 and a Valentine's card in maybe 1980/81. Both were from guys who were pretty shitty to me. So not too many fond memories attached to them (though there was something very satisfying about the squish factor Grin).

Keepaddingpets · 14/06/2019 17:23

I remember them and does anyone remember the Wilburs you could get. A funny bean bag type thing with a big floppy nose and a message on its tummy??

LemonMousse · 14/06/2019 17:24

My PIL still manage to find these for each other for every conceivable celebration - it's quite sweet really as they are both nearly 80.

There must be boxes and boxes of them stashed up in their attic Smile

PickAChew · 14/06/2019 17:26

Some of them were massive! They'd be there on display in the newsagent and my mum would always tut with disgust when I pointed them out!

I suspect MIL would have liked a padded card. She always chose us cards that were more like books, with several pages of rhyming verse.

Iwantacookie · 14/06/2019 17:26

I don't remember receiving one but I know my nan had some of my dm 18th and 21st birthday cards in display in her spare room.
I used to like stroking them when I was little Blush

jay55 · 14/06/2019 17:38

The 21st ones would have a plastic key sewn on the front.
Deffo one for the things that disappeared thread.

Sharkattack2 · 14/06/2019 17:40

Do people still give / receive those plastic large decorative keys in a box for an 18th or 21st too? I haven’t seen those around for a while either.

LadySainsburySeal · 14/06/2019 17:46

Trying to remember whether that sort of stuff went to the chazzer or if its still lurking in a box somewhere?

Remember I had a wine glass with a Garfield cat in it, an ”18” cocktail shaker (wasn't sure if that was my target number to drink or my age!) 😂 and more plastic 18 keys than I could rearrange my face for ”ooh look a plastic key with 18 on it” Wink

cantfindname · 14/06/2019 17:47

I was sent one as a Valentine's card. Kept it at my Mums as I was in work lodgings and the nasty mare threw it out Angry

It was very hearts and flowers and very tacky lol.

KC225 · 14/06/2019 17:49

In the late 70s I has a Saturday job in a newsagents and we sold padded cards along with oversized plastic keys with ribbons in display boxes. Not to forget the champagne glass (coupe style) with ribbons and satin.

Chune · 14/06/2019 17:52

I got one of my boyfriend for my fourteenth birthday.

I’d always known I was a special type of person, and that confirmed it.

PottyPotterer · 14/06/2019 17:55

I still have my satin padded baby book from the early 70's!

rollingpine · 14/06/2019 17:55

OMG yes, I've got one in the loft somewhere! From an early boyfriend, we split up not long after but I've still got the card Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/06/2019 17:58

When I was a kid you couldn't tell if someone had put a pound in the card because it was a pound note.

Ditto Grin

I remember the cards well and even got a couple, but does anyone else remember that the big ones just wouldn't stand up properly? The front padded bit was okay, but the thinner backs would always collapse - probably in admiration for their better-upholstered partner!!
