To think people need to stop viewing Boris Johnson as a loveable buffoon?

He's nasty and astute

He hangs around with horrible bigots who support eugenics, like Steve Bannon.

He cannot manage a day without having to publicly apologise for some dreadful remark he made.

He is even more likely to carry on heaping austerity on the sick and disabled than any other Tory leader.

When he was mayor he closed 10 fire stations in London.

He's dangerous and he doesn't give a fuck about anyone. I can't think of a worse proposition for PM.

Rather have Boris and Esther than Jeremy and Dianne Abbot all day long

Really? What a very odd thing to say.

When have Jeremy and Dianne been caught on tape conspiring to have someone's ribs broken. Or wasted 53 million on a failed bridge scheme? Or made a 'mistake' as foreign secretary which jeopardised the case of a British woman being held in an Iranian prison?

Zipee · 16/06/2019 15:00

Louisianna, the Mayor of London does not direct policing operations, although is responsible for policing oversight.

Its noticeable that Sadiq Khan closing police stations, is launched at anyone criticising Boris for fire stations, without the fact that Boris closed 60 himself being reported.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 16/06/2019 15:04

Well on the plus side at least Johnson PM could get that Third Runway issue resolved without having to worry about lying in front of any more bulldozers...

Graphista · 16/06/2019 15:19

“It’s not the kind of thing he would say so I think it’s extremely unlikely.” Who's he trying to kid?! It's EXACTLY the kind of thing he'd say!

"Only today there is a Sunday Times YouGov poll showing 47% of voters , (that's all voters not just Tory members)" really? You do know not all voters have been asked? If it's a Times poll how did yougov target the poll? Who did they ask? Certainly not me!

Anyone who knows anything about stats and polls knows how easy it is to manipulate a poll.

PostNotInHaste · 16/06/2019 15:31

I think it’s a triumph of social media manipulation that a thread about Johnson makes a good job of deflecting from the particular arse in question and ripping into the opposition (ha bloody ha) Party and ignoring that this is about blue on blue as someone in the party said. Good effort.

Alsohuman · 16/06/2019 15:37

It’s interesting how many people who know him personally are openly saying he’s untrustworthy, he continually lies, he’s a womaniser and misogynist in the mainstream media. And not a whiff of a libel suit. Surely that speaks volumes.

Justanotherlurker · 16/06/2019 15:37

Who did they ask? Certainly not me!

Come on, thats not how polls work and you know it

The man is self serving twat, would not like him reaching No 10, but it would be fun to watch what happens if he does get in, the brexiteers have their man at the helm then, no blaming anyone else.

I think it’s a triumph of social media manipulation that a thread about Johnson makes a good job of deflecting from the particular arse in question and ripping into the opposition

There is no manipulation, it's the exact opposite if any form of anti-labour thread is raised. It might be some confirmation bias at play if you think its one sided.

MoominMantra · 16/06/2019 15:37

'You can't dispute that Boris is charismatic.'

Oh do get out of town 😂 because charisma is all you need to be in charge of a country. Hitler? He was such a great guy wasn't he?

FYI most psychopaths are charming.

OP posts:
Saavhi · 16/06/2019 15:40

BJ would sell his own mother to advance his career. Horrible man with no morals. If he is able to betray his family so devastatingly what chance do the rest of us have? Extremely psychopathic the way he is carved out this "lovable oaf" persona.

Piggywaspushed · 16/06/2019 15:41

I do believe that same poll found that 59% wouldn't buy a used car from Johnson... PM, yes. Car Sales, no. Jesus wept.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/06/2019 15:54

Totally agree with you, OP - but then I'm another homeless voter now

The idea of voting for a party led by either Boris or Corbyn is downright unthinkable, and the other parties seem a pointless irrelevance

Graphista · 16/06/2019 15:57

"Come on, thats not how polls work and you know it" that's precisely my point! That the sample could well be skewed!

"PM, yes. Car Sales, no." 😂😂 that's interesting

billysboy · 16/06/2019 16:24

TM,s lack of charisma was one of the factors that contributed to her poor showing at the last GE and subsequent unpoularity
You are in denial if you think that isnt a big factor in Boris,s favour

ADarkandStormyKnight · 16/06/2019 16:29

Johnson's charisma doesn't make him the right choice.

bellinisurge · 16/06/2019 18:02

Trouble for Boris is that, if he becomes PM, the only electorate that matters is the House of Commons. And they hate him. Or rather, a majority does. So he is screwed with all this jolly buffoon thing. It might get him the leadership of the party and the PM job. But it won't get him Brexit.

Alsohuman · 16/06/2019 18:04

He won’t keep it long. Ken Clarke and a number of other moderate Tory MPs have said they’ll vote to bring a Johnson government down. Best not to unpack too much in No 10.

Monsterinmypocket · 16/06/2019 18:21

I don't - I think he's a twat and an embarrassment to this country. How can someone who talks such tripe be considered "charasmatic"? The people who think this must be severely lacking in charisma themselves. They probably think Katie Hopkins is a "good laugh".

There is a reason why everyone is voting for him. He's the next idiot in line to take over Brexit, except he'd happily crash us out, taking the Tories reputation with it, but at least nobody else has to be the one to do it and kill their career. I'm sure he'll do rather well financially from it one way or another, so he probably doesn't care.

Hopefully this will mean in the next GE we will have something different. As a pp has said, Brexit party is one trick pony, so no need for them anymore, and conservatives on their arses means hopefully a return to more centrist parties and policies and more common sense.

Dongdingdong · 16/06/2019 18:25

The fact that Boris won two mayoral terms in London (strong Labour territory) shows the man can win elections - and he is popular with the voting public. Anyone saying otherwise is in denial - and what’s the point of having your head in the sand?

ADarkandStormyKnight · 16/06/2019 18:36

The Mayor thing came about after people were tired of 'Red' Ken. He had a lot of Olympic money to spaff about at a time when most of the country was reeling from the 2008 crash, and less was known about his real character at that stage. His time didn't end so well - the Garden Bridge fiasco for starters.

Zipee · 16/06/2019 18:44

As a swing voter, I've often said I could have voted for Ken Clarke.

HelenaDove · 16/06/2019 19:34

Apparently he’s waiting to get the PM job before he reveals this girlfriend

Grazia magazine beat him to it way back in January.

ScreamingLadySutch · 16/06/2019 20:00

He is very, very intelligent.

Interestingly, London did extremely well under his mayorship. The Spectator magazine increased its readership when he was editor. I think he must be very good at delegating to competent people.

His old boss Max Hastings at the Telegraph, and fellow Conservatives, loathe him.

When a journalist said to a minister 'but the public love Boris Johnson' that minister replied, 'that is because they don't know him'.

Alsohuman · 16/06/2019 20:04

London did well on Ken Livingston’s legacy. Fuck all to do with Boris.

Dongdingdong · 16/06/2019 20:06

London did well on Ken Livingston’s legacy. Fuck all to do with Boris.

As a lifelong Londoner - how exactly did London do well on Ken’s legacy?

Ivegotthree · 16/06/2019 20:11

Well said @Dongdingdong.

Honestly cannot begin to think of a reason to support that proposition!
