To think people need to stop viewing Boris Johnson as a loveable buffoon?

He's nasty and astute

He hangs around with horrible bigots who support eugenics, like Steve Bannon.

He cannot manage a day without having to publicly apologise for some dreadful remark he made.

He is even more likely to carry on heaping austerity on the sick and disabled than any other Tory leader.

When he was mayor he closed 10 fire stations in London.

He's dangerous and he doesn't give a fuck about anyone. I can't think of a worse proposition for PM.

Graphista · 16/06/2019 13:02

"pretty well everything in graphita's post is just a left-wing diatribe. She doesn't want ANY conservative PM, certainly not a popular one." Exactly what is wrong with being anti tory? Genuine question.

But even with that being the case, as a disabled single mum with a disabled dd who has been repeatedly screwed over by the tories then damn straight I don't want them in power any more.

Even with that set aside, even if I take the view we have to have some kind of Tory in charge, Johnson is absolutely the last one that should be! He has no integrity, no morals, no real backbone. He's the absolute worst option!

"You can't dispute that Boris is charismatic." Apologies for invoking Godwin's law but so were hitler, Mussolini and Stalin!

"My belief is that the conservative leader who takes us out of EU, with all the goodwill that will engender" do you really believe plunging this country into a depression, more divisive politics, drug, food and other essential goods shortages will 'engender goodwill'??? You're deluded if so.

As for "100% conservatism before Marxist-Leninist dogma." What complete nonsense! The current Labour Party and its policies are slightly left of centre, nowhere near as extreme as you're implying.

Gth1234 · 16/06/2019 13:16

The Labour party have been suborned by their Russian paymasters since Stalin. Trades Unions also. It is laughable to think that Labour are "slightly" left.

The real problem is that they have subverted Conservative thinking in the same direction. We have two parties that both now think it's right to overtax the population. America is going the same way. Stalin and Mao are winning. Putin and Xi Jinping are winning. Converting snowflakes and their educators to their viewpoint.

The difference is that the West has to pursue policies of appeasement. The hard left doesn't need such niceties.

Tanith · 16/06/2019 13:24

Johnson is a hedge: everyone will unite to keep him out and we’ll be so relieved it isn’t him that we’ll welcome the (equally odious) candidate they really want.

Graphista · 16/06/2019 13:25

Wow! You really are on your own planet eh?

NCforthis2019 · 16/06/2019 13:30

Because that terrorist sympathiser JC is a great guy 🤦🏻‍♀️

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/06/2019 13:31

ecause that terrorist sympathiser JC is a great guy

What does this have to do with boris johnson?

Dongdingdong · 16/06/2019 13:31

He didn't 'make a go of it' Queen, he closed 10 fire stations

And Sadiq has closed many police stations. They’re all as bad as each other.

Zipee · 16/06/2019 13:36

If JC is a terrorist sympathiser for meeting with former IRA prisoners and elected members of Sinn Fien, the BJ is a white supremacist sympathiser for meeting with Bannon.

PerkingFaintly · 16/06/2019 13:37

I'm no fan of Johnson and I'd never bought the "loveable buffoon" schtick, but even I'm surprised by this Jeremy Vine story.

Johnson has a canned speech he churns out by rote, in which he pretends to ad lib and forget things.

Zipee · 16/06/2019 13:38

Sadiq Khan isn't in control of Met Police budget or policy. Johnson made the decision to close those fire stations

ADarkandStormyKnight · 16/06/2019 13:39

PerkingFaintly I read that yesterday - astonishing.

Bluerussian · 16/06/2019 13:39

I've never seen Boris Johnson as a loveable buffoon - just buffoon. He may be engaging but so is Farage and, by all accounts, so was Hitler who had people falling down at his feet in adoration!

Boris is dreadful.

Graphista · 16/06/2019 13:45

So so fed up of reading that people still believe the "terrorist sympathiser" nonsense too! It's been widely debunked AND the conservatives are hardly free of blood on their own hands anyway!

Dongdingdong · 16/06/2019 13:48

Sadiq Khan isn't in control of Met Police budget or policy.

It was Sadiq’s call to close all those police stations. It even says so on his own website!

“The Government has cut police budgets severely - the Met has had to find £600 million in savings since 2010, and must save a further £400 million by 2021. These cuts have forced the Mayor, Sadiq Khan, to make some very difficult decisions to prioritise public safety and protect officers on the beat. This includes closing some police front counters.”

Zipee · 16/06/2019 13:52

Fair enough.

He didn't make the decisions that caused it though.

Closing " front counters" doesn't mean closing the whole station either.

Dongdingdong · 16/06/2019 13:56

He’s closed whole stations Zipee - and lots of them. Some more links for you:

www.mayorwatch.co.uk/sadiq-khan-confirms-the-closure-of-dozens-of-police-stations/

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/judges-tell-sadiq-khan-to-reconsider-closure-of-wimbledon-police-station-mqwdfh8s6

But I agree that he’s not responsible for the huge cuts to the police budget - that came from the government.

Zipee · 16/06/2019 13:58

A little search shows that its front counters, not police stations.

only 8 percent of crime was reported to front counters in 2016.

This saves police numbers. Closinh the fire stations meant loss of engines and men within crucial time distance of many places.

Zipee · 16/06/2019 14:00

Boris closed 60 according to your link.

Dongdingdong · 16/06/2019 14:08

Zipee - clearly you missed this major story from last year:

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/met-police-property-sales-budget-cuts-austerity-london-a8521036.html

It even states on Sadiq Khan’s own website that he sold off some police buildings!

And yes, Boris also closed police stations. Which is why I said earlier, all these politicians are as bad as each other. Boris has made some dreadful decisions but Sadiq is no saint either.

But your statement that Sadiq has nothing to do with Met police policy is clearly not true.

BollocksToBrexit · 16/06/2019 14:17

'Fuck the families' - Boris' attitude to the families of the victims of the London bombings as mayor of London. What a nice guy. Hmm

www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/boris-johnson-fumed-fthe-families-16524677?fbclid=IwAR0iP937gtGKv_GMioI7jQcBbPqlx7MgGqQDt42V_oHwtNKveqoI3Km-eq4

SeaWitchly · 16/06/2019 14:22

Whose ribs did Corbyn conspire to have broken?

Which jobs did Corbyn get sacked from for lying?

Yes, I had forgotten that Boris was caught on tape discussing this with his mate -

www.theguardian.com/politics/2009/mar/29/boris-johnson-channel-4

Loathsome man.

Zipee · 16/06/2019 14:24

He doesn't directed operations. Ill admit Im wrong.

However never said Sadiq was a saint either.

Closing police stations isn't as a major issue as closing fire stations either. Especially as the ones closed, even by Boris tended to be smaller local stations.

Louisianna16 · 16/06/2019 14:29

Dongdingdong It's not just Zipee ( who only needs to f Google Mayor of London's responsibilities to find "policing" on the list,) confidently spouting extraordinary factual inaccuracies on this thread, by a long shot. I'm quite amused by the certainty with which some "facts" about Boris J ,are thrown in to control the narrative.

My favourite so far is the assumption that no one will vote for Boris J in a GE, and the Tories will die if he is in charge, when in fact the opposite is true. Only today there is a Sunday Times YouGov poll showing 47% of voters , (that's all voters not just Tory members), think he is the man towin next GE ,and 22% of voters saying they would be more likely to vote Conservative if he was in charge.

But never mind, eh? You keep spouting your "facts".

OddBoots · 16/06/2019 14:29

I find the buffoon thing so slimy, he uses it to cover how lazy, grabby, unkind and egotistical he is. It is so clearly an act he has mastered to manipulate people and it's sickening to watch.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 16/06/2019 14:41

Its my fear that Boris will be a 'popular' choice, put up to pull votes back from the Brexit Party, with no regard for the actual cost of Brexit or any of the other policies to real people.
