Very large lady next to me at theatre

Went to theatre today and the lady next to me was so large I was left with no space at all. My legs were aching by the end as they were pushed together and I couldn't move at all. She kept repeatedly elbowing and jostling me without an apology.

AIBU to be irritated?

@zonkin thank you. It's surprisingly hard to give up the bad stuff because it's just SO easily available in UK! There is like 100 chippies which can deliver to mine in 30 min😭 Last week I nearly folded because i REALLY needed fancied donner! Honestly teared up how much I wanted it, but battled with it. So now I keep frozen one from costco in a freezer and use half a handfull into a dinner salad with "garlic mayo" (garlic, bit of mayo and bit of yogurt mix). So freaking tasty and my needs cravings are satisfied.
Literally had to hit my personal absolute bottom when I was afraid to sit on the cafe chair because I was 115kg and chairs are tested to 100kg to kick me to change things.

To whoever said above that diets don't work. You were right.

Diets don't. They are shortlived and you end up yoyoing. But lifestyle change with sustainable food change does. Problem is that it is really quite slow and so many people just want a "quick fix" not looking at the measure and wondering why they haven't lost a single cm in first 3 weeks. I've lost a size in 6 months. That can be really demotivating for some. But I know that I can easily keep eating the way I am even in a future, like have a carrot instead of a cookie (when I was younger we rarely eat cookies or crisps so we really snacked on carrots so it's relatively easy for me), I will get to a good healthy size and actually be healthy. The weight loss is speeding up a little now so next size should be down in 4-5 months.
Slowly, but effectively and most importantly it will last.

BjornAgain81 · 18/06/2019 12:18

Not sure where I got size 6 from. MM was allegedly a size 6 at her smallest and usually an 8 by modern standards.

BjornAgain81 · 18/06/2019 12:19

FFS, meant to say 'not sure where I got size 4 from'.

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 18/06/2019 12:20

She couldn't possibly fit her chests into size 8😮 Maybe one of them🙈
Are we mixing US and UK sizes here?

CarolinePooter · 18/06/2019 12:25

nin she probably only fit the lower half in lol.

zonkin · 18/06/2019 13:08

@NinjaInFluffyPJs You're absolutely right. It's a long term lifestyle change and diets don't work. The weight loss booming business relies on this myth. Lose weight, regain, blah blah. £££££ for them. Not much in it for them if you get the weight off and keep it off.

There is no overnight fix. There will be ups and downs on the way to the goal (like your donner moment).

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 18/06/2019 13:12

@zonkin yeah. It did take me a while to actually fully realise that. Best advice I was ever goven was NHS dietitian. She told me not to completely ban anything. Just lower it. Because once you ban something from your food list, you will forever crave it and that's how mnay people fail so instead of half a galaxy choc, have a quarter and slowly take it even lower until you don't crave it anymore or you have enough after 1 row. The short one! Not the long side😂

cardibach · 18/06/2019 14:31

A Hamilton theatre ticket (for example) costs £250
I know this is a complete tangent, but I can’t let it go zonkin. So many people don’t even try to go because they read stuff like this. I’ve been to Hamilton twice, paid under £50 both times. Some tickets may be £250, but most certainly aren’t! I know it’s still not cheap, but it’s no more than other shows.

MrsBethel · 18/06/2019 15:18

I'm in two minds about this "diet's don't work" thing.

It probably stems from the two meanings of the word 'diet'.

Anyone who decides to 'go on a diet' - you know, a diet diet - yeah, that's probably not going to work out.

But someone who tweaks their diet/lifestyle/long term habits in a sustainable way that they are happy to stick with forever. And doesn't cheat. Doesn't have 'breaks' from it. Doesn't lie to themselves about portion sizes. Doesn't have to, because they are not fighting it, that's just their normal now. Yeah, that works.

LellyM · 18/06/2019 15:30

@Bonkerz, I am also a larger lady and I also try to get seats on an aisle so I don't inconvenience people. I am also very tall and always try for the back row. But if you can't it is awful. You feel dreadful squishing up to another person and knowing there is nothing you can do. I always dread getting someone who is offensive next to me!

Ain't that the truth - especially where "fad diets" are concerned. They're just not sustainable so they fail (which for most isn't the same as the weight being "impossible" to lose)

Like Ninja I got nowhere until I forgot the silliness and just ate less of everything. It took longer, which isn't much fun in today's world when everyone wants instant results, but IME it's the only way in the end

BjornAgain81 · 18/06/2019 17:29

Exactly.

I don't care what anyone says, if you eat 1500 cals daily for a few years it would be nigh on impossible to remain morbidly obese.

zonkin · 18/06/2019 18:26

@cardibach I think the price of the ticket is rather beside the point. The best seats are £250. That is what I have paid both times that I have been (this year). Last year the best seats were £200. I don't want to share a £50 seat with anyone either.

I think the ticket prices are outrageous but they can charge that, so they do. I enter the daily Hamilton lottery via their app where the winners get to buy 2 tickets at £10 each. It's free to enter. If I won I don't want to be squished in my £10 seat either. That would take the joy out of my lucky win.

Anyone who wants to attend any show can check out the prices at ticket master or whatever site they are buying through. It only takes a few minutes. But I digress. It's a whole other topic.

cardibach · 18/06/2019 18:38

zonkin I know all about the lottery and the prices and I said it was still a lot. I also said it was nothing to do with the thread topic. I just don’t want people to think they can’t go to Hamilton because prices are in the hundreds when the theatre has done really, really well at keeping them down to the price they have.

pineapplebryanbrown · 18/06/2019 20:15

Zonkin if you had a free seat would you share? What if your fat friend gave it to you on conditioner that you shut up?

DanglyTassles · 18/06/2019 20:29

Thigh I think we have already safely ascertained that there are no circumstances on this Earth under which Zonkin would share her theatre seat.

The lady's not for turning.

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 18/06/2019 20:33

Tbf to Zokin, I wouldn't want to share either. I don't share same small chair with my husband let alone a stranger no matter what their weight or hight is 🤷‍♀️

pineapplebryanbrown · 18/06/2019 20:35

Dangly the last time I checked theatre seats were solid at the bottom. Therefore it is not possible to get another arse on your seat. So we are talking about THE ARM REST.

Does anyone know how much Hamilton tickets are btw? It seems to be a secret.

DanglyTassles · 18/06/2019 20:35

I like my personal space too Nin, but surely this situation is nobody's fault, it just 'is'?

pineapplebryanbrown · 18/06/2019 20:37

Nin would you repeat the phrase "I want my £250 ticket" 100 times?

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 18/06/2019 20:39

Actually I physically can't share 🙈

pineapplebryanbrown · 18/06/2019 20:41

Nin I will happily give you some of mine.

pineapplebryanbrown · 18/06/2019 20:49
Cake
NinjaInFluffyPJs · 18/06/2019 20:55

What if someone CAN'T share their space? Like on PP who had to leave? Will you guys say she was nasty? Who should leave in a situation like that?
If you look at MN threads you can see how many people have eother these issues themselves or their children do.
Who should leave then? Because someone has to.😮

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 18/06/2019 20:56

@thighofrelief101 cheers, but I don't really have sweet tooth 😂 Stilton is probably responsible for at least 20kg of my extra weight 😂
