To ask for your best crime dramas

In bed with a bad back. Bored and in pain so watching TV for distractions.

I love watching crime dramas. I don't mind stand alone episode stories but prefer watching stories that run over a few episodes. I really don't like anything super natural. Just a story with a mystery.

I feel like I have watched most of them but there must be some I have missed?

Am I unreasonable to ask for suggestions?

I have even watched a lot of European ones.

I mean dramas such as

The killing, The tunnel, Unforgotten, Baptiste and the missing, Cardinal,Guilt, Paranoid, Safe house, Absentia, Happy valley ,Luther, The sinner.

There must be some I have missed?

@questionablemouse - check out Rotten Tomatoes - 97%. High ratings everywhere. Main character gets his chest out a fair bit too. Wink

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 15/06/2019 18:31

Seriously old-school but I love Montalbano (Italian police drama set in sicily, you can buy on Prime) and I also love the Mentalist.

Vera and Shetland are on my to-watch list, glad they're getting so many votes!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 15/06/2019 18:33

Another vote for Cracker and Prime Suspect.
Oldies but goodies.

RabbitseatDogs · 15/06/2019 18:37

Killing Eve.

BasiliskStare · 15/06/2019 18:40

I am thinking of watching Hinterland - could anyone tell me if it is any good ? - Have not RTFT Wink

I would second Morse Lewis etc also Grantchester

BUT - I thought Zen was utterly fantastic - only 3 episodes funny well shot and good plots in equal measure

So if you can get Zen , watch Zen ( unless Hinterland is any good Grin I doubt it - no one seems to like it ) Grin

PinkGlitter123 · 15/06/2019 19:43

Haven't read the whole thread but 'The keepers' on Netflix is pretty good

musicinspring1 · 15/06/2019 19:46

Also was going to suggest Shetland and Vera

Grumpbum123 · 15/06/2019 19:47

Bones

Hortz · 15/06/2019 19:56

BasiliskStare Hinterland falls into the category of scenic crime, like Vera and Shetland but Welsh.
Fabulous windswept Welsh scenery.
Lead character is even more dour than Perez in Shetland.
There is also a "Tosh" character. Can't remember names.

fiydwi · 15/06/2019 20:00

Broad church
The bodyguard
Killing eve
Keeping faith (good welsh drama)
White collar
Most of the other ones I would mention you’ve already watched XX

Mouse510 · 15/06/2019 20:02

I’ll second (or should that be third or fourth?) Shetland.
I’m currently working my way through the 2 seasons of Cardinal (on iplayer). It’s Canadian, pretty gory at point but good.

ladyme · 15/06/2019 20:06

Anyone know where I can watch Hinterland?

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 15/06/2019 20:09

I loved The Tunnel! Got completely hooked. When I finished it I actually felt like I 'missed' the two central characters.

I haven't RTFT so sorry if these have been covered but I'd recommend Save Me, The Night Of (Riz Ahmed is incredible as is the guy who plays his lawyer), Safe House, The People Versus OJ Simpson, Kirri (Sarah Lancashire is awesome), Broadchurch, Marcella and if you're after something that's Crime/Murder themed but a bit more of an easy watch rather than gritty drama then You and Dead to Me on Netflix are both entertaining.

Also not sure if you'd characterise it as a crime drama but (it is a drama and crime does feature heavily so maybe) I've really enjoyed Better Call Saul.

DuggeesWoggle · 15/06/2019 20:24

Dominic West as Fred West in Appropriate Adult was so chilling, it was an amazing performance. As was Emily Watson as the appropriate adult. Really uncomfortable watching but worth it.

Have a look at channel 4 online - plenty of the Walter Presents world dramas are crime related. Dicte: Crime Reporter is quite light-hearted and cheesy with a Jarvis Cocker lookalike as the detective. Acquitted is Norwegian, about a guy who was acquitted of a murder years ago and goes back to his home town (lots of scenic views of the fjords). Lots of others I can't think of right now.

I watched an excellent one, I think on Sky (on Now TV) set in northern Sweden in midsummer. It was about the Sami and a mining town and there was a French woman in it too. I think it was called Midnight Sun.

I didn't really rate Hinterland - too miserable even for me Grin

Millie2013 · 15/06/2019 20:33

Many of the above, I love Vera
I used to like McCallum too, must re-watch it

DuggeesWoggle · 15/06/2019 20:55

I've tried to watch Vera more than once but could never get past Brenda Blethyn's terrible Geordie/Northumberland accent ,(whichever it's supposed to be) or her 'bumbling disorganised' persona although I guess it's good to show a woman in a key role who is neither young nor glamorous.

Mogtheanxiouscat · 15/06/2019 21:06

Unabomber on netflix

The Bridge. I miss Saga. Grieved for that series when it finished.

Line of Duty

Fstar · 15/06/2019 21:08

tillytrotter1 · 16/06/2019 16:45

Montalbano, you'll fall in love with Sicily, been on BBC 4 recently.

stopitandtidyupp · 19/06/2019 20:13

Thanks to whoever suggested Sharp objects as I hadn't see that one. Watching it now.

Also I rewatched ' What remains ' as I had forgotten it.

Back onto Hinterland too Grin
