To think he must be dirty down ‘there’!

Am I being unreasonable to think that if a man has BO and doesn’t have a particularly physical job that it’s because he hasn’t washed and used a deodorant? And if he hasn’t washed his armpits then he hasn’t washed his penis? It just occurred to me the other day. I don’t mind a bit of BO if you’re in very very close range but when it smells from a few metres away, how clean are those penises?

OP posts:
theworldistoosmall · 11/06/2019 16:29

Cannot believe so many people don't know about smegma. Males and females produce the stuff. Its why we should be teaching boys how to pull the skin gently back and girls how to wash.
It's a naturally occurring lubricant in males it helps to protect and help lube the penis. In females, it acts as a protective barrier.

It's why we should wash fannies and cocks daily to stop the buildup.

But back to the op. At the moment I stink of BO a lot because of menopause. Even using antiperspirant doesn't stop the stinky pits. Some people just produce more sweat than others. I used to be one of those that could have a shower daily, miss the antiperspirant and be fresh all day.

Missingstreetlife · 11/06/2019 16:32

Sometimes it's people's clothes that smell, not their body so much.

Idontwanttotalk · 11/06/2019 16:41

@anarchyshake

TMI.

Girlofgold · 11/06/2019 19:47

Ffs. Smegma. Mumsnet never fails to deliver.

Anarchyshake · 11/06/2019 20:22

What did I write Blush I even euphemismed with mansausage Grin

BlackCatsRock · 11/06/2019 21:12

@Anarchyshake

"OH has to be forced into the shower and he's obese and gets that overweight smell. Last summer, his downstairs area/ butt crack smelt awful."

I was having hysterics when I read your post, really made my morning 😂

Youwantshoesinashoeshop · 11/06/2019 21:27

I have also wondered about this! But I am a bit weird like OP

There can be so many causes of people smelling bad, aside from.the obvious not washing properly.

-damp living conditions and clothes stores there
-smokers, double whammy because the smoke stinks and also it mucks up your own sense of smell so you cant smell when you're going a bit ... off.
-alcohol use and that awful seeping out the pores smell.
-obesity. Lots of places for yeast to hide.

FWIW an old old boyfriend met the first two criteria and thankfully he was scrupulously clean where it really mattered.

Kittykat93 · 11/06/2019 21:31

@Anarchyshake wins the thread Grin

Laiste · 11/06/2019 21:40

Ahh mumsnet.

It's not what people think is it? Grin

LauderSyme · 11/06/2019 21:48

@Gth1234 It is now, but it used to be common slang for cheesy knobness ….. Which is why I relate so well to Makes those of us who spent our formative years in the 80s snigger at the appliance manufacturer Smeg. Yep, even now.

@theworldistoosmall Is it known as a thing then, becoming smellier during menopause? Because it's happening to me too but I thought maybe it was just me. Will it get better post-menopause, do you know?

TooManyPaws · 11/06/2019 21:51

It does surprise me how sensitive some of our noses are to ‘body smells’ these days, given how we evolved to all live together in crusty stinky groups with only the odd rain shower to wash us! It’s also strange how whiffy folk can’t smell themselves as bad (and do something about it). Or do most of them know but just not care? Leaving aside people with MH issues, and those who can’t afford to care.

I think it's a question of what you're used to, quite literally. I knew a few guys who fought in the Falklands War and they didn't get a wash from the time they landed at Ajax Bay till the fall of Port Stanley several weeks and battles later and right the other side of the island they'd had to make their way across. They said that they didn't notice body smell as it had got worse gradually day by day and everyone else smelled the same. Once the Argentine surrender had occurred, great big shower facilities were set up in Port Stanley. it was only after showering that the newly clean registered the reek from their colleagues still queuing to wash. It seems that we only register a smell when it is different to the norm.

@TheGoddessFrigg

It was grim. He also had like rings of dirt around it

I can't stop laughing! Thank you so much for this thread! 🍾

PinkGlitter123 · 11/06/2019 23:02

I think about this too OP. Blush

Notcontent · 11/06/2019 23:12

I feel I have to contribute to this discussion!

As I take public transport on a daily basis, I spend quite a bit of time thinking about people’s level of cleanliness... I think there are different types of BO and fresh or even slightly stale sweat smells very different to the kind of BO that someone gets when they haven’t washed for a few days. The latter is a lot, lot worse!!!

Closetbeanmuncher · 11/06/2019 23:14

like an urchin’s neck?

😂😂

No way in hell would I be getting my chops round that 🤢

supersop60 · 11/06/2019 23:27

Look up Monty Python and Mrs Smegma.

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 11/06/2019 23:28

Did anybody explain what duck butter is??

LaMarschallin · 11/06/2019 23:55

@ThrowThoseCurtainsWide

I mentioned upthread that I'd heard that "duck butter" was allegedly what Michael Jackson called semen.
Don't know if he got it from somewhere else though.

MajesticWhine · 12/06/2019 00:10

Nice thread.
I am in the "never seen smegma" camp, but DH is circumcised and his is the only penis I have had a close encounter with recently.
I will be giving the whole topic much more consideration when I am at work tomorrow. There is quite a sweaty chap in my office. Had never thought too much about his dick but I will now Grin

Nonatron · 12/06/2019 00:17

Good lord this has to be the most hilarious but also most stomach turning thread 😂😂

Just to add in, a smell that turns my stomach as much as BO: clothing that hasn’t dried properly. That squeaky, musty minging smell that if I even catch a whiff of it makes me heave!

Hippychick78 · 12/06/2019 01:58

Duck butter.

Google initially suggests a film about two lesbians. Further investigation offers these explanations. I'll link so people have the choice whether to read or not, it's a new one on me 😂 🤯

theworldistoosmall · 12/06/2019 08:33

@LauderSyme I hope the smell goes. It must go otherwise all menopausal women would smell.

Circumcised blokes don’t have the smegma build up. Think it’s cos there’s no hood

Booboo66 · 12/06/2019 10:40

My take on duck butter was a slight play on letters as it was listed along with Betty swallocks. I imagined it to be dick batter Blush🤢

Booboo66 · 12/06/2019 10:41

There could also be an element of autocorrect there
