Am I being unreasonable to think that if a man has BO and doesn’t have a particularly physical job that it’s because he hasn’t washed and used a deodorant? And if he hasn’t washed his armpits then he hasn’t washed his penis? It just occurred to me the other day. I don’t mind a bit of BO if you’re in very very close range but when it smells from a few metres away, how clean are those penises?

Is a Smeg a euphemism for a minging fridge? Maybe we should have this moved to the DIY topic OP?

Grupple I believe it's a sweet sweaty smell that isn't bo but a bit sweeter, not unlike the smell you get when you're poorly with a temperature.

Sometimes I suspect it’s more to do with poor laundry habits. I know folk who shower/wash hair on a fairly normal basis, but rewear their clothes far too often. Stale body smells accumulate quickly in fabrics, especially modern synthetic ones. And if you just whack everything in the machine, with cheap detergent, with no real regard to the cycle, it may not actually clean them sufficiently

Definitely, this, it's amazing that the work of a shower and deodorant can be undone by minging clothes. Fabrics attract and retain dirt and odour more than your skin ever will.

@Monty27 smegma is a white grunge found on genitals. Makes those of us who spent our formative years in the 80s snigger at the appliance manufacturer Smeg.

Justaboy I have never seen smegma on my DP even if he's washed in the morning and he's getting it out in the afternoon/evening before a shower.

I actually think that often the smell isn’t that much the person smelling but the clothes smelling.

I have never in my life come across knob cheese on anyone, hopefully it remains that way!

A bit of BO wouldn’t equal dirty bits to me, a bit of BO is normal (and we know the smell of someones sweat helps with attraction), but you shouldn’t be able to smell them from far away.

It does surprise me how sensitive some of our noses are to ‘body smells’ these days, given how we evolved to all live together in crusty stinky groups with only the odd rain shower to wash us!

Foul stinking body odour isn’t necessarily about poor hygiene. Dh and I knew a guy, who smelt really bad at times but when dh broached the subject he said he showered twice a day and changed his clothes each time. I’ve seen posts from ops before, who have the same issue and say they are fastidious. Please don’t put everyone in the same basket. Idk what their issue is. But some people have hyperhydrosis others may have and overactive thyroid.

And of course everyone gets smegma! It's a naturally occurring substance. Not everyone lets it build to cottage cheese consistency.. but everyone gets it.

It’s usually from skipping the deodorant part rather than shower. My DP showers twice a day but he still sometimes smells like BO after work, it’s when he didn’t put deodorant on in the morning despite showering.

I have a friend who often smells like BO and when I was pregnant I found it unbearable, had to hold my breath a lot. She mentioned her morning shower a few times and her hair was always clean so again, I think it was a case of skipping deodorant. Can also be wearing the same shirt twice.

I just want to say loud and clear that if someone has strong BO it doesn't mean that they haven't washed and it doesn't mean they have it all the time - if someone is very stressed they might on that day smell very strongly - even if they have had a shower, are wearing deodorant and are wearing clean clothes!! If it is a daily non washing smell that is different. But someone can smell very strongly and quite badly of BO just because they are under immediate stress. But most of the time not smell at all.

I have never come across knob cheese ever. I’ve heard of it but never come across it on any partner.
