Triangle or square

CreakingKnees · 10/06/2019 09:46

If you are making a sandwich with bread rather than a roll, do you tend to cut it in half triangular or square?
I tend to cut it into triangles, my DH cuts it square.
So after just finishing a sandwich i made ( triangle ) it just set me wondering about other people's preferences.
So you lovely lot, triangle or square?

That puts you in the cowboy sandwich category @CassianAndor Grin

Probably already been said but apparently there IS a scientific reason why triangles taste better!

WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo · 10/06/2019 12:13

Triangles, because my frst job was in a sandwich bar. I can cut an oozy club sandwich without anything gunging out of the sides and pack it seamlessly into a sandwich bag for you.

I'm a woman of few talents but there's always that. Grin

DitheringBlidiot · 10/06/2019 12:17

Triangle every time

maimainomai · 10/06/2019 12:17

Ah... Finger sandwich-type sandwiches.

Triangles (or tramezziniWink) are the go to.

Squares? Never. That's just inhumane.

Rectangular ones: if I wanted to make 'real' finger sandwiches. But I can't generally be arsed to make those. (Not even for a vicar.)
Also reminds me of cooking classes / I think it's called home ec or life skills nowadays?

I prefer rye / dark bread sandwiches btw. The more barn door type variety (if I can get away with it. Because caaaaaaarbs. Lovely, wonderful carbs.😢)

pigsDOfly · 10/06/2019 12:21

What's all the crust hate about. It's the best bit of the bread in a sandwich imo.

I cut mine into squares. Triangles look a bit Hyacinth Bucket, especially if the sandwich is cut into four.

maimainomai · 10/06/2019 12:24

Not when it's the soft, square, sliced type of bread... (in that case I personally simply don't really take note of the crust....)

Now, if we're taking about (preferably homemade) dark bread, yeasty butter bread concoctions etc...? Yes, I'm absolutely with you. Nobody gets between me and my crust. Grin

LadySainsburySeal · 10/06/2019 12:25

I cut triangles, OH cuts rectangles.

Unless it's a fish finger sandwich when we don't cut it at all. Grin

FinnBalorsAbs · 10/06/2019 12:25

Triangles. In my head they're posher and I'm eating something fancy and delicious in an artisan sandwich shop rather than Dairylea unearthed from the back of the fridge that the DC have turned up their noses at

If I'm trying to elevate to the next level I halve a couple of cherry tomatoes and empty a bag of crisps on my plate too...

maimainomai · 10/06/2019 12:31

Aren't rectangles more work?

Cut off the crusts, make sure they're even, assemble the buggers in pleasing arrangements that can then be graded by a shedevil....

The square.... Just no. I'm not making 4 mini sandwiches when I could have one real sandwich.

The triangle is much less fussy. Take two slices and cut them once and you're done.

But I usually wouldn't make any kind of extra cuts/unnecessary adjustments. A sandwich is supposed to be a sandwich and not a finger sandwich imo....

pigsDOfly · 10/06/2019 12:33

maimainanoi I don't eat soft, pappy, white bread so yes I was thinking of something more robust in terms of crust, and bread of course.

PotatoesDieInHotCars · 10/06/2019 12:35

Cut in to four triangles then stood upright on the plate all posh like.

Alexthekid · 10/06/2019 12:36

My mum has always done oblongs for men and triangles for ladies.

Children (of both sexes) get Christmas trees (triangles stacked offset in a line down the plate)

The oblongs used to be called rectangles until that amazing Christmas special episode of The Royale Family where Denise is cooking and goes round the table asking everyone if they want triangles or oblong bread to go with their (tinned) soup 😂

Yabbers · 10/06/2019 12:37

I take two slices of bread, put what ever I want in my sandwich on one slice and then out the other slice on top....?

Right, but presumably you don’t just then pick it up and eat it? Presumably you cut it in to something more manageable to hold? That’s still a sandwich. As you’ll see on the shelf of any place which sells sandwiches. Finger sandwiches are the tiny ones you get in a buffet.

youngestisapsycho · 10/06/2019 12:42

In half, into rectangles, thes spin the top bit of bread round so that there is crust on both sides of the sandwich Smile

maimainomai · 10/06/2019 12:45

Yes, I do.

Presumably you cut it in to something more manageable to hold?

No. Especially not if we're talking about 'sandwich bread'/square bread (which is what the OP seems to be talking about). It's not like my hands are too small to hold a slice, are they?

If you're taking about a big loafs, where one slice may end up being about the length of my underarm?

Sure. I'd cut those in half (vertically).

But the OP is clearly not referring to those.

CreakingKnees · 10/06/2019 13:03

Crikey there's some posh sandwich makers here @FinnBalores and @PotatoesDie. Does the vicar call often? Grin

Jesus fucking christ! No.

NoShitHemlock · 10/06/2019 13:11

Triangles are for when I feel fancy and want to be posh (obviously because of the posh High Tea I had once)....
Rectangles are for when I have company (and don't want them to think I am a heathen)
Not cutting is for when I am on my own (I am actually a heathen).

I am not posh very often....

I agree that triangle sandwiches taste better but the absolute BEST sandwiches are those you don't make yourself (when you can coerce a loved on into it). And that is a true fact!*

Triangles, of course. Only monsters do squares or rectangles.

And DP. I'd LTB, but he does have the knack of cooking bacon just how I like it.

[polishes halo]

KnickyKnackyNooNoo · 10/06/2019 13:27

Eliza9919 that's exactly how I eat my sandwiches too. If I have 4 mini triangles, I eat the 4 crusts first though, before I eat the insides. It just gets rid of the boring stuff first and leaves the good bits!

LadyRannaldini · 10/06/2019 13:29

If you cut a square from a normal slice of bread then you're wasting a lot! Should we assume that you mean rectangles?

DroningOn · 10/06/2019 13:47

Rectangles but long ways, that way both halves get a bit of the top crust and bottom crust

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 10/06/2019 13:49

Triangles if we are at home but squares if it's for a packed lunch
