Triangle or square

CreakingKnees · 10/06/2019 09:46

If you are making a sandwich with bread rather than a roll, do you tend to cut it in half triangular or square?
I tend to cut it into triangles, my DH cuts it square.
So after just finishing a sandwich i made ( triangle ) it just set me wondering about other people's preferences.
So you lovely lot, triangle or square?

I don't understand the question....?

I take two slices of bread, put what ever I want in my sandwich on one slice and then out the other slice on top....?

Or are you taking about finger sandwiches?

Birdshitbridgegotme · 10/06/2019 10:46

Triangles all the way nicer to eat and u can bite a triangular edge iyswim?

ElizaPancakes · 10/06/2019 10:46

It’s paste!. I think I’m the only person in the UK who still likes it Grin but it’s great on sliced white and filled with salt and vinegar crisps as well.

Shadow01 · 10/06/2019 10:49

@ElizaPancakes nope as I love it too!

IsabellaLinton · 10/06/2019 10:56

Triangles, definitely. Seems less crust that way!

ATowelAndAPotato · 10/06/2019 11:04

It’s the corners of crust I don’t like, so triangles all the way in this house!

BogglesGoggles · 10/06/2019 11:05

@DoneLikeAKipper Grin you get a Star for petty acts or revenge. I love it and am goingto start doing the same.

EleanorReally · 10/06/2019 11:11

my dh told me years ago to do triangles.
my dd prefers squares
i think i prefer triangles

EleanorReally · 10/06/2019 11:12

my dm does square sandwiches

YoYoYumYum · 10/06/2019 11:43

Squares. More practical (fits easier into a box, stuff doesn't fall out). Triangles look nicer though.

GirlAtWork · 10/06/2019 11:45

Triangles. I think it improves the crust to filling ratio for each half.

Eliza9919 · 10/06/2019 11:46

Triangles, and then there is an order to eat it in. Crust off one corner, crust off the other, the rest of the crust then the sandwich that's left - corner, corner, last bit.

TillyTheTiger · 10/06/2019 11:51

Triangles.
I remember mum asking me whether I wanted triangles or squares when I was about 6, I (jokingly) said circles, so she used a biscuit cutter and presented me with four cheese and pickle circles. I remember thinking she was the best mum in the world! Grin

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 10/06/2019 11:53

That’s a terrible way to eat a sandwich, Eliza!

All that boring crustiness first? I want instant sandwich gratification, thanks, and will head straight to the filled middle part first!

Treaclesweet · 10/06/2019 11:54

Definitely triangles. You get more crust-less edge for biting. My DH says square sandwiches are for people that hate themselves.

Eliza9919 · 10/06/2019 11:58

@TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth It saves the best bit to eat without grotty crusts. I do the same with toast. at the crusts quick then eat the hot buttery middle bit.

I like shippams crab paste @ElizaPancake. Only on toast though, never in a sandwich. There's no point, the filling is too little. It's ok on a slice of bread & butter though.

Eliza9919 · 10/06/2019 11:58

*Eat the crusts quick

Needybetsy · 10/06/2019 11:59

Ha Ha Ha!!! Squares fit into a box easier than triangles?

ILoveDaveGrohl · 10/06/2019 11:59

It depends what's in the sandwich. If it's egg salad cream mayo then triangles. Anything is is rectangles. Those r the rules. The only rules.

Chartreuser · 10/06/2019 12:00

Takes. Had rectangles as a kid as my mum thought triangles were common Hmm

Seeline · 10/06/2019 12:01

Rectangles for everyday sandwiches.
Squares when the DCs were little (so four mini sandwiches rather than 2 larger ones)
Triangles for party teas or posh events (four per sandwich rather than 2 big ones like you buy).

SomewhereInbetween1 · 10/06/2019 12:01

Squares always, I feel it looks more aesthetically pleasing that way Blush

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 10/06/2019 12:04

Usually rectangles but I really like little triangles, so quarters with the crust just along the back, but these are only deemed acceptable in certain circumstances eg sandwich platter or for children. My gran always made sandwiches like this for me and I loved visiting my grandparents as a child so maybe that's why

CreakingKnees · 10/06/2019 12:06

I don't know what you would call it @Maimainomai I didn't even know that sandwiches had names, well beyond the filling type, such as cheese sandwich etc.
But yes, when you make a sandwich in the way that you do, but then cut it in half or even quarters if its for the vicar or similar Grin
Obviously a 6foot 10 barn door of a man might look at you in some confusion at being presented with a plate of dainty triangular cut sandwiches as opposed to a door step uncut one containing half a cow or similar.

(Disclaimer. Some women also like the above cowboy sandwich too )

I don't cut it in half at all!
