Bleached hair, posting for traffic

Didn't know where to put this so feel free to move it MN if there is a hair section that I couldn't find lol but posting for traffic.

I previously had a dark brown root smudge leading into blonde hair at the bottom, my hair is not long, collar bone length. This colour was done at the hairdressers but was costing me £60 for this plus a trim every 3 months and I just can't afford it anymore.

Quite liked the blonde at the bottom and decided for the summer I'd like to go full head blonde so I bought a blonde hair dye thinking since most of the hair was that colour anyway it'd be OK... it was not OK, it went a weird pale brown all over, not even a nice shade of brown at all. So I decided to buy a pre-lightner (basically bleach I think it was), I put this on today and the roots are now ginger and the rest is a lovely shade of blonde. My question is will a normal blonde hair dye fix the root colour or am I going to have to bleach it again (after leaving it for a while first of course)?

Thank you!

letitbegin so far I have spent £12.50 for the first box dye, pre lightener and toner, then £12 for the developer and 2 cremes from the salon shop then a further £4 on a 2nd pre lighter so a total of £29 so less than half what the salon charge me and I won't need to spend even close to £29 each time to keep it topped up so I'm saving plenty. In fact the salon creme tube has 3 uses worth not just one so that will last a while.

I honestly don't know why people keep mentioning a salon. The OP had mentioned over a few times so far that isn't an option. Yes it would be the quicker and safer way but it isn't going to happen, let's accept it is going to be done at home and not repeatedly give advice that op isn't in the financial situation to take. Smile

LorelaiRoryEmily · 13/06/2019 08:53

Op it should tell you the mixing ratio on the side of the box. Most professional colours have it. I’m not familiar with the one you bought but look at the side. It’ll say 1:1, 1:1.5, or 1:2

LorelaiRoryEmily · 13/06/2019 08:54

And yes I would use 30 vol, 20 vol will only give you one level of lift and you need more😊

Nogodsnomasters · 13/06/2019 09:24

Queenbeex thank you for saying that, I am getting tired of repeating myself and I'm sure others on the thread are too.

Nogodsnomasters · 13/06/2019 09:25

LorelaiRoryEmily thank you, I'm going to go buy the 30 vol this morning, I'll check the bottle for the ratio, I cannot remember the name of the developer right now and I'm not at home to check.

The OP is trying to find a home based way to keep her hair the colour she wants. I think that’s great 👍

I am incredibly lucky that I’ve found an excellent salon near me that is ridiculously cheap, hence why I go to a salon. If I was having to pay standard rates to have my hair coloured and cut every 12 weeks I suspect I too would be investigating home dying again.

lhastingsmua · 13/06/2019 12:51

I agree about the salon comments. My hair is fine and colour damaged already so whilst I personally go to a salon, I’m finding this thread of OP’s home colouring journey super interesting! Love seeing all the updates.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 13/06/2019 13:12

@Nogodsnomasters the mixing ratio will be on the colour tube or the box it comes in, not the developer bottle. Just so you know where to look😊

LittleLongDog · 13/06/2019 13:21

Just checked back to see how you were getting on and I’m so glad to see your hair hasn’t fallen out!

pollypenguin01 · 13/06/2019 13:27

OP have you tried googling and looking at a few YouTube videos?
I’m not sure some of the advice you are getting on this thread is going to do your hair much good!

Nogodsnomasters · 13/06/2019 21:10

Well I purchased a 40 vol 9% developer this morning and as per bottle used it at a ratio to 1:1.5 with the 10.02 colour. Finally the orange is gone! I must admit its still not even because the previous orange sections are now a slightly darker tone of blonde than the rest of the hair but tbh I'm just glad there is no more actual orange! I'm not sure if I should just leave it alone now for a month or so or continue to attempt to match blonde tones, which would the hairdressers on here advise? I don't mind either way, I just needed the orange gone and have finally succeeded in that part!

Boorrrisss! Is that U???

LorelaiRoryEmily · 13/06/2019 22:15

Did you use 30 vol op? That’s 9% 40vol is 12%. Either way I personally wouldn’t do anymore to it at this stage. Keep using your purple shampoo and colour it again when you have roots. You got a great result, don’t risk anymore

Mommmytobe19 · 13/06/2019 23:06

Hairdresser here. I’d stop putting anything else on your hair at home go to the hair dressers and get them to sort it out, get them to turn you the colour (or as near as) you want them get yourself up to the wholesalers and buy the same brand and shade she has used or would recommend and a bottle of peroxide and do your roots at home.

Boneshere · 14/06/2019 06:13

Do not colour your hair anymore!!!!!

Buy the matrix brass off mask!!! www.beautybay.com/p/matrix/total-results-brass-off-color-obsessed-custom-neutralization-mask/

I've used it for two years, and I am brass free!

If you want a silver look then get this

rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F252204913734

Dilute it with white conditioner to get pale silver tones. Don't plonk it on neat!!

They are both amazing and not damaging and will last you ages.

I have tried the new loreal purple shampoo, that isn't drying so I would suggest that.

I would also invest in Matrix version of Olaplex, a three step treatment or Phillip Kingsley's Elastizer. The later in the extreme version is gorgeous, but too heavy on your fine hair.

The trick is to use professional products. While the upfront cost my cost you a bomb, the long term investment and the quality pays off.

I purchased the Olaplex system, cost me a bomb! But it strengthened my hair and therefore is worth it after being botched at a budget hairdressers.

And also, I have used Wella T-18 many many times, and it does get rid of orange hair. There are videos all over YouTube about it too, it has quite the cult following, as far as toners go!

Nogodsnomasters · 14/06/2019 07:24

Oh my god can people please read the whole thread and stop suggesting I go to a hairdresser, it's really annoying to keep repeating myself.

Sorry I did buy the 30 vol 9% not the 40 one. I will leave it as it is for now and keep using my purple shampoo and see how it goes!

LorelaiRoryEmily · 14/06/2019 07:54

Good plan op. The purple shampoo will help now.

Nishky · 14/06/2019 08:01

I think it looks really pretty in that last photo.. it didn’t look horrendous in earlier photos but it is better now

howwudufeel · 14/06/2019 08:02

I have similar issues. I hear that Olaplex is amazing and I was wondering if it’s worth trying it?

lhastingsmua · 14/06/2019 13:50

I had olaplex 1 & 2 done at my salon and it was amazing for the condition of my hair. So good that I’d honestly get it done every visit.

I have bought olaplex 3, haven’t actually tried it yet though. The bottle is tiny for the price!

howwudufeel · 14/06/2019 14:39

That’s good to know Ihastingsmua.

Ravingstarfish · 14/06/2019 14:44

I’m glad you’ve decided against bleaching, mine turned into chewing gum!
Tigi bedhead purple shampoo is the only thing that tones my hair. I’m naturally a bit ginge and it’s the only one that works for me, I do it twice a week.

Beautiful3 · 14/06/2019 14:50

Your hair looks nice in the last photo.

pollypenguin01 · 14/06/2019 14:52

Be very careful with purple shampoo it will make your hair dryer unless you use the correct one.

You need to get protein into your hair.
