The whole dressing gown in the supermarket thing

ThinThighsPlease · 09/06/2019 16:13

It's bad enough to see people going to their corner shop in a dressing gown at 9pm. But it's a busy Sunday afternoon and I shit you not there's a woman strolling around our massive local supermarket (in fact shopping park) ... in a onesie.

What the fuck is wrong with people?!

OP posts:
TheAverageJuror · 10/06/2019 00:11

It's not even PJ in my house anymore. It's a normal supercomfy loungewear and i even converted DH to it😁
I don't use Pjs in bedBlush

Aridane · 10/06/2019 00:16

I don't know how anyone can wear the same pjs two days in a row etc

It's really quite easy

Aridane · 10/06/2019 00:17

grim - nah, grim would be going out in piss or menstrual blood or vomited encrusted clothes

Aridane · 10/06/2019 00:17

grim would be wearing next to nothing (slut shaming)

GameofPhones · 10/06/2019 01:49

Hmmm is this leading or following the trend?

PregnantSea · 10/06/2019 01:50

I don't give a fuck what other people are wearing at the supermarket, so long as they are wearing something. Nudity doesn't belong in the supermarket. That's where people buy food.

RiversDisguise · 10/06/2019 01:55

So long as it's not Michael Gove with... things.. flapping out, why would anyone care?

TSSDNCOP · 10/06/2019 08:14

the deflector why do you have them at all then? Why not just have the courage of your convictions to disavow social norms go to bed in your jeans/joggers whatever at the end of the day?

Everything we do every day is a social norm/construct. It’s why we don’t drop and pee in the gutter and meet acquaintances with a jaunty “fuck off”.

Snobs the ridiculous retort of the poster with no actual argument.

ViolentBrutishAndShort · 10/06/2019 08:21

Christ you should live around here! It's like bloody Halloween every day the get up some people wear out and about. Went to the vets the other day and a bloke sat in the waiting room with his cat in a box on his lap and he was wearing dressing gown and sliders and a 5 O'clock shadow. He was manspreading too. I had to change seats :(

No one wants to see meat and two veg at ten in the morning do they?

Sagradafamiliar · 10/06/2019 08:39

You wouldn't catch me dead in sleepwear in public, not even in my own house after or before a certain time of day. Not even in the depths of depression.
The fact the people who routinely wear their pyjamas out, don't invest in loungewear indicates a radical type of mindset of not giving one fuck. Which is not a bad thing....but I don't relate.

TheAverageJuror · 10/06/2019 08:52

But what if...
What is classed as pjs is actually your loungewear because it's super comfy? Hence by bying nice pjs we (wearers of "pjs" instead of a loungewear at home) invested in loungewear😁 Some of you are being REALLY nasty tbh.

I've seen quite a serprising number of women and guys breaking the social constact when I lived in a city. The biggest revolution usually happend on Fri and Sat night 😂

TSSDNCOP · 10/06/2019 08:58

True average and there was a thread only recently condemning people for that very disregard of the social norm in York. Those in agreement with that OP were also tediously called snobs.

Maybe we all just reach a point of having “wear”, but would the designer please ensure it doesn’t look like or be made from grubby terry towelling.

TheAverageJuror · 10/06/2019 09:12

Mine are soft fleece. It's essentially just the print on them which makes it a PJ. If the trousers were, let's say, grey and not with penguins, no one would know it's not "outdoor" trousers🤷‍♀️
I found that not only are these really comfy for me as they don't scratch and irritate my skin, but they are also cheaper that if I bought the same soft thing but as an "outdoors" trousers. Really just difference in a colour...

ilovesooty · 10/06/2019 09:16

Not even in the depths of depression

Take the prize for the most fucking stupid comment of the day so far.

MorondelaFrontera · 10/06/2019 09:19

if you are called for a meeting with the headteacher at school, if you go to the Christmas nativity, if you are invited to your neighbours for a drink, if you need to pop in the office on your day off to pick up something...

would you wear a dressing gown or pjs?

Most people wouldn't. So be consistent and ask yourself why you wouldn't be that comfortable about it.

And if you can't see what is wrong in being seen at school in your pjs in front of your kids friends, then you are beyond a slob!

Sagradafamiliar · 10/06/2019 09:23

Why sooty? I was talking about myself and what I would/wouldn't do. Grab yourself a coffee.

Aprillygirl · 10/06/2019 09:28

To the people calling this woman a lazy skank and other awful names,I very much doubt she rolled out of bed in the offending garment(too hot), then sat around all morning festering in her rancid, unwashed body juices. I,for example, hate wearing onesies to bed, but have received a couple as presents and rather than waste them I'll put one on after my shower and wear them dossing around the house at the weekend.I personally wouldn't feel comfortable going out in one,but I really don't care if others do. Why should they waste money buying a tracksuit just to please you when a onesie will do the job just as well?

Shootingstar1115 · 10/06/2019 09:31

Just no. Fortunately where I live you don’t see this very often (I’m not a snob but it’s a bit of a ‘posh’ area) but I did see a lady in pyjamas at my local Sainsbury’s once - at 4pm. Maybe she was poorly?? Who knows! But it bothered me as she probably slept in the pyjamas and wore them all day and I can’t see how it’s hygienic.

I couldn’t do it myself. It doesn’t take long to take a quick shower or have a quick wash and shove some clothes on does it??

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 10/06/2019 09:37

I have to admit when I lived literally opposite the corner shop I did end up in there in pj’s once or twice. But I wouldn’t go to the supermarket in them. It is quite common to see teenage girls out and about in them on the weekends though, and neighbours taking the dog out first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Have to say my eyeballs seem pretty much intact!

Haisuli · 10/06/2019 09:40

It's gross. I hate it. Even when parent bring kids in in their dressing gowns. It really doesn't take very long to put some clothes on. I was astounded a couple of months ago to see a family in their jammas at a Premier inn breaskfast. Totally unacceptable imo

Society is becoming much less formal clothes wise. Over the last 10 years or so, most offices have become more casual. Gym wear / leisurewear is very prevalent. I can’t get worked up about this at all.

That's not necessarily a good thing. The erosion of standards creeps in to all aspects of life, as we are now seeing with the state of most places atm.

JacquesHammer · 10/06/2019 10:13

Meh who actually cares?!

I seriously judge the capacity for intelligent thought of people who equate wearing a garment of clothing with morals and ethics.

I broke my leg about 18 months ago. Full leg cast. All I could wear for 12 weeks were PJ bottoms.

So yes, I went to supermarkets, school events, parents evening, doctors, business meetings wearing them.

The sky is still up there...!

knockedupmama · 10/06/2019 10:18

Way what you want but ive done it before. Had to run to the shops for something and its cold and im not gonna bother putting something else on because someone else doesnt like it. I dont care what other people think. I also went once in a flapper outfit because i was about to leave for a party and last minute my dad asked me to run down the road to pick up a few things he would need overnight (has a broken leg and cant drive) got some odd looks but i dont give a crap. What some stranger in the shops thinks isnt a priority to me.

knockedupmama · 10/06/2019 10:19

that should have been say what you want

Pinkyyy · 10/06/2019 10:21

Mumsnet snobbery is just too funny sometimes. O have absolutely no problem going to the supermarket in my FRESH AND CLEAN pyjamas. People saying it's unhygienic are just fucking stupid.
