The whole dressing gown in the supermarket thing

It's bad enough to see people going to their corner shop in a dressing gown at 9pm. But it's a busy Sunday afternoon and I shit you not there's a woman strolling around our massive local supermarket (in fact shopping park) ... in a onesie.

What the fuck is wrong with people?!

Wearing makeup even if you're in jeans and trainers doesn't make you a better person with higher standards.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/06/2019 21:27

It's difficult to tell the difference between sleepwear, sportswear and cheap t-shirts and leggings. I don't really care what the classification is. I don't want to see people out and about in skimpy, thin clothes that leave little to the imagination. Other than that I can't get too worked up about this.

SuePerbly · 09/06/2019 21:30

I am working class. "Chav" is not a term which is synonymous with WC culture. Most Chavs will be WC, but not all the WC are Chavs.

To be honest, I think WC people, in general, cannot stand chavs. We all know the type of person being referred to by that term - whether people on here want to admit it or not.

By saying that "Chav" is a slur meaning working class, you truly are lumping all the WC in together with them. So thanks for that!

clicketyclick66 · 09/06/2019 21:31

I admit I bring my daughters to school wearing my PJs after working a 24 hour shift at the hospital - but covered with a coat and I NEVER leave the car!
I have to say I have never seen anybody shop in their PJs and dressing gown, maybe I shop at a different time?

LaurieMarlow · 09/06/2019 21:32

Not sure why you think this is necessary a good thing.

It’s a macro trend. Moral implications aren’t particularly relevant. I’m pointing out that it’s happening.

SrSteveOskowski · 09/06/2019 21:52

@Morondela, absolutely.

StoneofDestiny · 09/06/2019 22:00

It's slobbish behaviour to wear bedclothes outside the home and it projects an image an idle sloth is wearing them. No excuse.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 09/06/2019 22:06

SuePerbly I totally agree I grew up on a council estate. My parents were working class, as were their parents. One grandmother spent time in the workhouse as a child and her mother , born around 1860 something could neither read or write.

All of them would refer to these people as "common as muck" but if the phrase "chav" had existed in those days, they would have used it.

rockingthelook · 09/06/2019 22:06

Dirty ,lazy bastards, get a grip, have a wash and get your outdoor clothes on! Inside your house wear what you like, but in public stop being a lazy sod, how hard is it to get dressed?

peachgreen · 09/06/2019 22:09

I cannot believe some of the language being used on this thread. What a bunch of snobs.

TheDeflector · 09/06/2019 22:14

Imagine being the kind of person who is bothered by what material someone else puts on their body.

ilovesooty · 09/06/2019 22:17

Who says they don't wash?

StoneofDestiny · 09/06/2019 22:28

Doesn't matter what material the bedclothes are made of, it is the fact they are bedclothes.
Most people would think it odd to walk through the supermarket in swimwear, underwear, diving suits, spacesuits etc.
Clothes come appropriate to the occasion. Most children recognise this simple social norm - puzzling that some adults don't.

TheAverageJuror · 09/06/2019 22:36

spacesuits

I MUST get a Spacesuit! 😮

MiniMum97 · 09/06/2019 22:40

I think you need some more important things to worry about. Why do you care?

And there is no reason why we have indoor and outdoor clothes. It's just a social norm.

TheAverageJuror · 09/06/2019 22:41

I imagine discussions like this including the insults were going on just over 100 years ago when women started wearing trousers commonly outside.
I dream of a day when I could walk around Asda in soft fleece trousersBlush It's very calming.

MorondelaFrontera · 09/06/2019 22:53

why would anyone want to go to bed in normal clothes, it's grim.
Why would you want to be in your underwear outside?

If your clothes are so uncomfortable, maybe buy the next size up. i don't get it. It really is not a good look to wear a dressing gown outside, have a bit of self pride (and a shower)

StoneofDestiny · 09/06/2019 22:54

Here you go.......

APOLLO A7L DELUXE SPACE SUIT REPLICA
Gone are the days of trying to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere inside an old refrigerator box in you.....
£2,999.99

TheAverageJuror · 09/06/2019 22:56

@StoneofDestiny Hmmm. I was thinking more like 20 quid of Amazon😂

Unfinishedkitchen · 09/06/2019 23:04

They look like they smell of ripe cheese, stale sweat and musty genitals.

It’s not the WC who do this either, it’s the underclass and hungover students.

Excited101 · 09/06/2019 23:16

It’s grim and slovenly. Most people are more than capable to have enough self respect and dress properly and look appropriate when leaving the house.

Standards have slipped so much over the years, in some ways it’s no bad thing that there’s not as much pressure to what people look like but in other ways it’s a shame there isn’t so much self respect when people go out. It’s not long since people wouldn’t go out without wearing a proper hat.

TheDeflector · 09/06/2019 23:19

I've never done it, but if I wanted to, I would. I don't need anyone else to respect me. My pyjamas are just trousers and a top with a matching pattern. Why are they so different to other clothes? People are weird.

PotsOfJoy · 09/06/2019 23:23

Put some clothes on that ass if you respect yourself

Cloudyyy · 09/06/2019 23:32

Off topic but I thought bedclothes were the duvet covers and sheets? Nighties / pjs are the clothes.

Notashandyta · 09/06/2019 23:43

Why can't they make pj's day wear? Maximum comfort. Lovely. WHY??!!
