I have a serious Diet Coke habit, and for the umpteenth time have been reminded just how bad it is for me. So I’m looking for healthy alternatives aside from tea/coffee. I’m avoiding sugar so really need low sugar alternatives to diet fizzy pop. Thanks l!

Water
Lemon and ginger tea
Cucumber, strawberries, a whole lemon and ginger blitzed with water in the Nutribullet.

sobercuriouskind · 08/06/2019 21:50

Irn Bru
Orange juice
Diet coke
Hot chocolate
Lemonade

I plan on buying a beautiful new water bottle tomorrow to encourage some new healthier habits as I know how bad all of the above drinks are.

Am booze-free though, for nearly 11 months. .. so have been focusing on that first.

I gave up Diet Coke over a year ago as I was drinking at least a can a day (free at work) and people kept telling me how bad it was for you.

Now I drink tea, coffee, water, green tea, squash, hot chocolate, fruit juice.

Mostly water and green tea though.

So glad to have given up the DC. Went totally cold turkey and haven't had a sip for about 15 months.

I like a cup of hot water, instead of tea or coffee I boil the kettle and have hot water on its own. It sounds weird but it tastes better than a glass of cold water!

I've just done a little research, and, aswel as other things, I've found that, apparently, artificial sweeteners make the body produce insulin, and that then makes the body "store" the fat/sugar insulin creates as the body doesn't recognise the sweetener. Although what I read was written a little more scientific, that's the gist of why diet drinks don't make you thin. Water it is for me from now on, well, I'll try. Fingers crossed

Never fizzy.
I don't drink coffee.

I have one hot chocolate in the morning, and that's it. It's my weakness, so I stick with just the one.

Green tea if I am wanting a hot drink.
Water with lemon/lime added.

LeavesAndGreenTrees · 09/06/2019 07:17

Filtered water (no plastic bottles!) mainly, sometimes with some cucumber slices.
Herbal teas, green tea. Earl grey or English breakfast also but maybe only 2 a day. Maybe 1-2 coffees a week. It gives me palpitations!

I used to drink fizzy drinks and squash as a child/teenager but haven’t done in about 20years now. I also used to drink way too much coffee. Once you break the habit you will feel so much better! 🙂

If you are craving sweetness, try herbal teas with natural cinnamon or licorice root in them. The Pukka range have lots like this. You can even make them up in a jug, chill and serve with some ice.

Was going to write tap water and wine then realised your post said during the day - just the tap water then .

KinderSurpriseBump · 09/06/2019 08:18

Tap water

dudsville · 09/06/2019 08:32

Water. I've never had an addiction to drinks. I'll occasionally crave and enjoy a can of fizzy drink, once a year or two. Alternatively, my brother says it's the only thing for him when he's really thirsty as it hits the back of his throat. When I think about that I realise that it's this part me that most dislikes the flavour of fizzy drinks as it's so harsh and makes me want to drink water. Good luck with your shift. I think we're all just made differently. The next time you're having a fizzy drink really focus in on what you like about it and think of alternatives to that part of the experience.

RottnestFerry · 09/06/2019 08:36

During the day just tea and coffee. Very occasionally beer. Very rarely water.

starflake · 09/06/2019 09:24

Water with a few slices of lemon in it with a dash of fresh lemon juice. Lovely....

qj17 · 09/06/2019 09:26

Brita filtered water with lots of ice really quenches my thirst. Also have the odd can of Diet Coke.

Beechview · 09/06/2019 09:28

Water too. I do occasionally have a big glass of water with a bit of cordial (with actual sugar in it) and I find it really satisfying and stops me from snacking.
