Apart from tea/coffee what do you drink during the day?

I have a serious Diet Coke habit, and for the umpteenth time have been reminded just how bad it is for me. So I’m looking for healthy alternatives aside from tea/coffee. I’m avoiding sugar so really need low sugar alternatives to diet fizzy pop. Thanks l!

Coke, sugar free energy drinks, the occasional squash.

YeOldeTrout · 08/06/2019 20:11

Caffeine in diet coke would keep me awake all hours so I can't have OP's problem.

I drink regular tea, decaf tea, herbal infusions, fruit teas, fruit juice, rooibosch tea with milk (lots). Loathe coffee. I can drink plain water, just drank about 2 litres worth, but mostly hate the taste of water. Cold drinks (like cold water) hurt my teeth.

Hot chocolate, fizzy fruit fuice, Booze, Fizzy water I like, too but not daily.

MrsMiggins37 · 08/06/2019 20:13

Fizzy water either on its own or with lime cordial, cold filtered water (but has to be really cold), orange high juice squash

MrsMiggins37 · 08/06/2019 20:13

Or the occasional caffeine free diet coke

MiniMum97 · 08/06/2019 20:15

Just tea and coffee mainly. I really need to drink more water. What about fruit infused water?

HardAsSnails · 08/06/2019 20:16

Tap water.

Junowhat · 08/06/2019 20:17

Cold herbal tea.

I struggle to drink enough water and find that one of those Camelbak type bottle which you don't have to tip up to drink from work best for ease of use. Pukka Cinnamon tea is yummy and naturally sweet tasting, as is peppermint or spearmint tea.

I confess to treating myself to BottleGreen cordial every so often. Especially lemongrass and ginger. Delicious but sugary.

megletthesecond · 08/06/2019 20:17

Water.

TeaAndChocolateBiscuits · 08/06/2019 20:18

Sorry for jumping in on your post op, but why is diet/zero coke etc that bad for you? I confess I also have a bit of an addiction, it's the first thing I go for when I need a drink. Is it really that bad?

MrsMiggins37 · 08/06/2019 20:25

The acids are really bad for your teeth and I don’t think the sweeteners are that healthy either

avocadochocolate · 08/06/2019 20:27

Tap water, rooibos tea and the occasional glass of Prosecco

Sparklypen · 08/06/2019 20:30

Water, fevertree elderflower tonic water is v refreshing (comes in small cans), also jointace fizz tablet in water - taken for my joints but is a good flavour .
Also diet coke at times. Same question as pp - what is wrong with diet coke? Seems like everything is bad for us!

Mollypolly2610 · 08/06/2019 20:37

I make my own water drink in a jug and it lasts 3 days. I chop ginger into tiny bits, some cucumber chopped up, squeeze a lemon and then chop up the rind, squeeze a lime and chop up the rind, add some mint. Fill up with water and keep in the fridge. It gets addictive but very healthy and tasty!

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 08/06/2019 20:40

I drink sugar free squash. I have about 4 or 5 pints of it a day, what does everyone have against it? The artificial sweeteners? Are they really that bad?

DianaT1969 · 08/06/2019 20:44

The absolute best drink for hot weather and the alternative to diet coke is 100% natural cherry juice - no sugar or artificial sweetners - with cold sparkling water. About 30% juice to 70% water. The fruit contains natural sugars obviously, so you'll want to dilute it.
Unfortunately, you may have to hunt for it, as our supermarkets are intent on adding sugar or artificial sweeteners to all drinks.

Notevenathing · 08/06/2019 20:46

I’ve recently had to give up coffee and fizzy pop type drinks due to chronic GI issues. I love green tea but also any other kind of herbal tea, I have a whole cupboard full. I have sparkling water if I’m craving a soft drink.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 08/06/2019 20:54

Water. I don't know if you are including herbal within "tea/coffee" but I drink peppermint, fennel and rooibos teas too. Sometimes I drink warm milk Blush.

RomanyQueen · 08/06/2019 20:54

water, milk, fresh fruit juice.

ABCSigns · 08/06/2019 20:55

About 12-15 cups of this a day. Hot or leave to go cold, it doesn't matter, it's lovely.

Apart from tea/coffee what do you drink during the day?
Ivy44 · 08/06/2019 20:57

A lot of water and strong peppermint tea.

Quite like fizzy water with a slice of lemon or lime, or maybe some elderflower cordial. If I feel. I need a bit of sugar.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 08/06/2019 20:57

Spunbodge the sweeteners in squash give me headaches and I actually really dislike the taste. I think they are like lots of things, probably fine in small quantities but these days they seem to be hidden in everything and I'm not sure about that. Plus I feel they make your palate used to always having sweet tastes, it just makes you crave more sugary food. I'd rather have a small amount of something with real sugar/honey and stick to non-sweet alternatives the rest of the time.

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 08/06/2019 21:01

Water. I love it. I’d choose water over a hot drink most times.
Then I have strawberry Ribena squash at home.
But mainly water.

Poshjock · 08/06/2019 21:05

I was a fizzy drinks fan. Have been on diet pop for years. But in order to curb the habit - and I really couldn't like water - I drank sugar free Vimto or Robinsons Special R. Then after I was well used to the habit of drinking out of a sports bottle (you just kind of drink it because its there on the desk next to you) I ended up on just plain water. Mostly because it's pretty horrible how sports bottles get mouldy when you put juice in them. I don't drink diluting juice at all now. I do like my water from a filter jug though.

I do occasionally have a can of fizzy, but I prefer fizzy water and I like slimline tonic with lemon or lime as a treat.

Amazing how tastes change!

AnnabelleBronstein · 08/06/2019 21:09

Water. About 6 pints a day.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 08/06/2019 21:26

I drink too much tea at work but if I'm at home I generally have one cup of Earl Grey Tea in the morning but then drink water or Peppermint Tea the rest of the day. I do like Diet Coke but don't keep it in the house as I know so many people who are hooked on it. I don't normally buy fizzy pop unless I've got a hangover, then nothing else will do.
