I have a serious Diet Coke habit, and for the umpteenth time have been reminded just how bad it is for me. So I’m looking for healthy alternatives aside from tea/coffee. I’m avoiding sugar so really need low sugar alternatives to diet fizzy pop. Thanks l!

Me too. Go through phases of cutting back.

Water really is a good alternative.

ChinAirTakingOver · 08/06/2019 12:10

Just water. Once you get into the habit it’s easy. Just force yourself.

If I’m craving something ‘more’ I occasionally have coconut water.

Didntwanttochangemyname · 08/06/2019 12:11

Water, sparkling water actually. About 2 litres a day. I'm currently thinking about buying a soda stream so I stop using so much plastic.

leftovercoffeecake · 08/06/2019 12:11

I'm going to sound boring, but honestly, water.
I used to drink way too much diet coke myself Grin but I forced myself to stop buying it because I know it's not good for me.

I don't buy coke anymore so I have no other choice but to drink water, which I recommend doing. Now it's all I want to drink and I don't know how I used to drink so little of it tbh lol.

Pipandmum · 08/06/2019 12:13

If you need some flavour just add a bit of cordial (not squash) to water. You can add just a touch.

Mouse510 · 08/06/2019 12:14

Water, at home I just have a pint glass on the go all day that I keep refilling as required, I probably drink about 3-4 pints of water a day. If I need a treat then fizzy water with a slice or two of lemon or lime.

Megan2018 · 08/06/2019 12:16

I have mostly water with a couple of glasses of sugar free “nice” cordial for variety, sometimes made with sparkling water.
I recently gave up normal Coke.

Starrynights86 · 08/06/2019 12:17

Sparkling water at home. I’m glad pregnant at the moment so am obsessed with this blood orange and lime cordial which I add to sparkling water when I would normally have a wine. Tea and water at work, it’s amazing how much more water I drink just have a drink bottle on my desk.

tearinmybeer · 08/06/2019 12:18

Kombucha, and why, yes, I am middle class.

Apolloanddaphne · 08/06/2019 12:21

Mostly just water. Sometimes squash.

AphidEater · 08/06/2019 12:22

How about those zero / VLC flavoured waters? Volvic Do them and there are supermarket versions too.

AguerosAngel · 08/06/2019 12:22

I drink Vimto, gallons of it. Hot or cold, I love it!

Bluerussian · 08/06/2019 12:23

A little fruit juice, lemon and barley, lots and lots of water.

SallyWD · 08/06/2019 12:23

I only drink tea, coffee and water

happytobemrsg · 08/06/2019 12:24

Just water!! We occasionally have orange juice in the house, but he really I only have max 1 cup of tea a day & the rest is water. I actually really like water

cricketmum84 · 08/06/2019 12:26

Lots of water, I've just bought some twinings cold infusion teabags and they are quite nice, they give a light flavour to water rather than a full on squash type flavour.

anothernotherone · 08/06/2019 12:26

Just water, or fizzy water if I've randomly bought it because sometimes guests where I live seem to assume that you have it. The kids drink fruit juice sometimes but I only buy it sporadically and not in large quantities so mostly water - the teen only drinks water, never fruit juice or anything else except an occasional hot chocolate. 8 year old drinks milk sometimes.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 08/06/2019 12:26

I drink water or infused water. I have a bottle with a sort of ‘strainer’ through the middle. I put various things in the strainer, yesterday was sliced strawberries and mint leaves, I also use lemon, lime.... This gives the water a subtle flavour. So more interesting than plain water.

I can’t drink anything with artificial sweetener in so really only drink tea coffee water or milk as soft drinks.

anothernotherone · 08/06/2019 12:30

I drink a lot of tea in the evening if I'm at home though, and 3 cups of coffee before 11am (though none later than that) if I'm at home or at work.

I bloody hate infusions, I hate weak tastes and am a bit all or nothing - very happy with water, very unhappy with anything waterey which isnt pure water - but I live in a country where herbal Infusions are passed off as tea, which has jaded my view of pseudo tea Grin hence only drinking tea at home! Grin

oreosoreosoreos · 08/06/2019 12:32

If you want to kick the Diet Coke habit then it'd probably be best to avoid sugar- free cordials too, as the sweetener in them could trigger your cravings.

I drink a lot of plain water, but also like sparkling water when I need something with a bit of fizz to it - either plain or with a slice of lemon or lime, or a bit of mint or ginger.

I drink herbal teas too - pukka are good as they actually taste of something. In the summer I'll make a large jug of one up in advance and put it in the fridge for the next day to drink cold.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 08/06/2019 12:34

I try to mainly drink water, I bought a 2L water bottle which I leave beside me on the couch to drink.

I do drink Diet Coke too, sometimes none, sometimes one or two cans and I have two, sometimes three, cups of tea.

I also like soda water and lime cordial if I’m cutting back on Diet Coke.

tkband3 · 08/06/2019 12:36

Don’t drink tea or coffee at all - just don’t like them. I used to have a serious full sugar coke habit but kicked it when dieting a few years ago. I now drink either still or sparkling water. I bought a sodastream so I wasn’t using so much plastic - it’s not a money saver but is definitely more environmentally friendly!

alwayscoffee · 08/06/2019 12:40

Water, mint tea or champagne depending on how my day is going.

bellabasset · 08/06/2019 12:51

I drink almost black coffee and water. A diet coke is a treat now as my dh, who loved diet coke, was told to stop drinking it nearly 20 yrs ago. I do actually also like Waitrose cloudy lemonade. Neither my dsis or I like tea or milk but I do drink weak tea with lemon.

I do drink sparking water as well. I like the Belvoir elderflower cordial to add to plain water. You don't need to add much.

cliffdiver · 08/06/2019 12:54

Water.

I only really drink tea (black or mint) or water.

Very occasionally (once a month) I might have a fruit juice.

Obviously I also drank wine Grin
