Dentist in tesco tackled me

Shopping with 3 year old yesterday. Stopped by the raisins. Old woman came up to me and said "excuse me but please don't buy them. They are terribly bad for teeth" I must have looked incredulous because her husband stepped in to say she was a dentist

Aibu to think go away and let me shop in peace? I'm a sensible grown adult who can make choices

Happened me in a park with a little one.

Put her in a bucket swing (no straps) but deep bottom so no way she was coming out considering I was right at it.

"Oh there's no straps on that swing"

😊 And kept gently swaying little one.

“You are not being unraisinable, OP!”

:)

I want a job as a trolley jeerer

BreconBeBuggered · 08/06/2019 11:22

The unsolicited advice is annoying. I'd hate someone to kindly inform me that the crisps in my trolley were going to do me no good at all. On the other hand, MIL, with all good intentions, used to feed my DC those little boxes of raisins and the odd chocolate button throughout the afternoon every time we visited, and wouldn't have it from an unqualified DIL that it would be better for their teeth to give them a whole packet of chocolate buttons after their lunch if she wanted them to have a treat. It would have been great if someone had stopped her.
As for the ageism, well, it's rife everywhere. Yesterday I saw someone dismissing Nigel Farage as an elderly 55-year-old man. There are numerous legitimate things to criticise Farage for, but being 55 and therefore not worthy of notice shouldn't be one of them. It was quite a popular post, though.

Joan the 'taxpayers' who fund the healthcare of smokers and drinkers and obese people are the smokers, drinkers and obese people. It's not just thin, healthy people who fund the NHS. It's also not some free service provided by the state out of the goodness of their hearts - it's only free at point of delivery. So obese smokers and drinkers shouldn't be made to feel bad for utilising what is theirs to use!

What’s the difference, apart from the degree of harm?
Well, one will guarantee to kill you, the other one might maybe give the child a cavity or two. Might being the key word. You're right perfect analogy Hmm

GabsAlot · 08/06/2019 11:36

Doesnt matter if ops trolley was piled high with twenty packets of sugar-noones business

ChaircatMiaow · 08/06/2019 11:38

FFS now kids can’t have raisins as a snack or a treat? What the hell is left that they can eat? Sticks of wood that have been hand carved by Buddhist monks and marinated in the tears of the Baby Jesus? Hmm

sheshootssheimplores · 08/06/2019 11:41

I wouldn’t have minded that advise, particularly if I’d have thought raisins were a healthy snack without realising they edged themselves into kids molars and sit there all day.

JinglingHellsBells · 08/06/2019 11:53

@spiceb

I think if you are a former professional who has spent years putting right the wrongs caused by ignorance or lack of care and seeing children suffer / in pain due to tooth decay, it must be hard NOT to speak up.

There is a general ignorance about the damage dried fruits can do to teeth (and also how high they are in sugar).

If you want to give children stuff that damages their teeth that's your look out. But dried fruit IS really bad and sadly lots of people think it's a good substitute for sweets when it's no different at all.

JinglingHellsBells · 08/06/2019 11:54

@ChaircatMiaow

Stop being so silly.

Raisins are not a healthy snack and are the same as eating sweets or worse.

Kids can eat all kinds of stuff as long as it's not laden with sugar.

DistanceCall · 08/06/2019 11:56

Aren’t people over - what - 40? 45? allowed to express opinions in a public place?

They should give unsolicited advice to strangers about their shopping, no. But it has nothing to do with their (our) age. That applies to everyone.

DistanceCall · 08/06/2019 11:56

They should not give unsolicited advice, that is.

Tingface · 08/06/2019 11:59

Raisins are shit.
HTH.

animalprintfree · 08/06/2019 11:59

OP your post isn't half as interesting as the title suggests.... No violence, just some unsolicited professional advice 🙄

Oysterbabe · 08/06/2019 11:59

I really think I wouldn't have been able to stop myself from telling her to fuck off.

itsonlysubterfuge · 08/06/2019 12:02

I don't get. Put them in your trolley and give them a polite smile and move on.

Also raisins are not as bad as sweets, they have vitamins and antioxidants as well as fiber.

MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah · 08/06/2019 12:03

Goodness. 'Fuck off'? Are you always so aggressive?

Jonette · 08/06/2019 12:03

Out of curiosity, does a raisin have more sugar than a grape?

Jonette · 08/06/2019 12:05

Ok, google telling me 1 grape = 1 raisin in terms of sugar levels.

sheshootssheimplores · 08/06/2019 12:11

Actually google says that new evidence suggest raisins aren’t as bad for teeth as once thought. For me, anything that gets stuck on your back teeth after eating is not a good thing for your teeth. I’ll always brush if I can feel something sitting there. I haven’t got any fillings yet and am in my forties so I must be doing something right.

tinytemper66 · 08/06/2019 12:14

I love raisins! What I really want to know is how old this woman was?
