We loved the “Lord of the damp setee “
For the poster who asked:
He who would valiant be,‘gainst all disaster
Let him in constancy follow the master
There’s no discouragement shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent
To be a pilgrim

Mare verses on request (from somewhere in my head.. goodness knows where! No wonder I can’t remember every day things, my memory is full of all these songs!!!

PrivateIsles · 07/06/2019 23:24

@CurlyhairedAssassin are you thinking of Time and Tune??

motortroll · 07/06/2019 23:25

All the love for this thread!!!

MoobaaMoobaa · 07/06/2019 23:26

MrsSiba could you link to your You tube one please?

WaxOnFeckOff ahh don't be silly, I grew up with these at school, and I was hardly indoctrinated by them, I'm pagan slowly now bordering on Atheist.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/06/2019 23:26

@wax. You missing out! Any you remember

Not really, I try to block all that crap out :o

I do remember doing "if I had a hammer" but that might have been some other attempted indoctrination programme...

cwg1 · 07/06/2019 23:28

Curlyhaired fab radio programme a few years ago about Singing Together. I predate the '80s, but the international folk songs I remember -

See the pedlar, Tafta Hindi,
Oh, them flying fish ain't nothing,
Kookaburra sits in an old gum tree.

Happy days Smile

babysharkah · 07/06/2019 23:28

Be still for the glory of the lord

Shine Jesus shine

Your love is amazing, steady and unchanging...hallelujah, hallelujah...your love makes me sing

Here I am lord, is it I lord, I can hear you calling in the night

Ave Maria, gratase a plena, Dominus, Tecum, Benedicta Tatu

So many! My phone isn't doing well on Latin spelling 😂

Moobaa It's sort of tongue in cheek - we lived in different times then, I just can't imagine being happy about it now. I'm perfectly happy for people to do what they want in terms of worship etc in their homes and churches, just not sure that school is the best place to be honest - but that's a bit too serious for the thread :)

confusednorthner · 07/06/2019 23:32

We're still singing these at our school! Shine Jesus Shine, Peace Perfect Peace and When a Knight Win His Spurs seem to be headteacher favourites .

babysharkah · 07/06/2019 23:33

Mine might be more expensive bias but I think at least some of them cross over. I'm a seriously lapsed Catholic but I like going to church for how uplifted the hymns make me feel. Group singing is good for the soul regardless of religion.

AlliKaneErikson · 07/06/2019 23:33

There are some proper ‘bangers’ on this thread! Takes me right back to Sunday School and Primary School. My mum was music teacher at my primary and the pianist is Sunday School so I got it pretty much drummed into me!

babysharkah · 07/06/2019 23:33

Expensive?! Catholic ffs.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 07/06/2019 23:34

PrivateIsles: no, I’m aware of Time and Tune but I think it was the Singing Together that I remember (and have a pamphlet for). I remember songs like Waltzing Matilda, My Grandfather’s Clock, Island In the Sun, one called Quinoro’s Pearl.

AlliKaneErikson · 07/06/2019 23:35

As an aside, my kids don’t sing hymns any more in school but my brother teaches at at church school in London and their assemblies are amazing- proper singing!!

FurrySlipperBoots · 07/06/2019 23:35

I think I must have gone to a different school from you lot! We had 'Cauliflowers fluffy' and the 'Black ink/white page' one, but it was a very diverse, multi-faith school so we didn't sing religious hymns.

I remember one about spaghetti and meatballs, and we sang 'When I'm 64'.

Our singing teacher used to march up and down during assembly roaring 'DIABOLICAL!' and 'PATHETIC!' at intervals... Nothing like nice positive constructive criticism hey!

AlliKaneErikson · 07/06/2019 23:35

Curly- I have multitudinous copies of Singing Together; they’ve come in very handy as a singing teacher, funnily enough!!

chachaboom · 07/06/2019 23:36

Gah, it's not letting me post the picture but does the Ta-ra-ra boom-de-ay songs for everyone book ring any bells? Dancing ladies on the front.

It had My Grandfather's Clock and Yellow Submarine. Classics 👌

CurlyhairedAssassin · 07/06/2019 23:36

cwg: yes, they’re the sorts of songs that were on. I loved them, and I loved Come and Praise too.

DieCryHate · 07/06/2019 23:37

🎼from the tiny ant! From the tiny ant! To the elephant! CARE FOR THEM ITS UP TO YOU, FFS

Kathulu · 07/06/2019 23:37

I'm loving this musical dance down memory lane. Most uplifting thread of the day OP.

Pleasebequietnow · 07/06/2019 23:38

Love this thread. So many happy memories!

AlliKaneErikson · 07/06/2019 23:38

Ta-ra-ra-boom-de-ay is also still in my singing teacher arsenal!! Love the cover!!

peanutbutterismydownfall · 07/06/2019 23:40

Has anyone mentioned

"Said Judas to Mary now what will you do with that ointment so rich and so rare. I'll pour it all over the feet of the lord and I'll wipe it away with my hair, she said, I'll wipe it away with my hair". I used to spend a lot of time in assemblies puzzling over the logistics of that and think that surely Mary would get told off for getting her hair all messy.

I got VERY excited when I was in my 20s and saw a jet plane refuelling in the air. I squealed and pointed it out. A couple of similar aged people were also interested and could be heard humming autumn days at various points. The rest of the group just looked baffled.

WineIsMyCarb · 07/06/2019 23:42

Needed this today. Such a boost.

🎼Make me a channel of your peeeeace... where there is hatred let me bring your looooove..... and where there's doubt true faith in youuuuuu!!
