How does everyone handle bathroom towels? Does everyone in family have their own towel? Or do you all share whatever towels are in the bathroom?

Omg. I must be obsessive. This is a farm, and lots of outside work, also with machinery etc. I wash teatowels and surface cloths, hand towels and face flannels every day. Hot wash, individual flannels but often use the same towel all day. Bath towels after every second use. Sheets and pillowcases every week. All dried in the fresh air unless raining. Not obsessive over housework though, I can see the dust under the sofa from here. Untidy cupboards, etc.

I have a bit of a towel habit, I've loads and loads. If anyone wants a bath they grab a towel, then it's either washed or dried in the tumble dryer for 5 minutes. I can't see the big deal about washing them and drying them they just get chucked in the machine. It's not like you carry them down to the river!

Lolwhat · 07/06/2019 13:32

We have 7 people using our bathroom so everyone has their own coloured towels

JinglingHellsBells · 07/06/2019 13:33

@Lou780 Why do you as a grown woman (assuming) need to ask?

Are you unsure what the norm is?

Has someone picked you up on your laundry hygiene?

Such an odd question to ask from someone who presumably has a family.

Bluntness100 · 07/06/2019 13:33

Bit surprised by people having rheir own towels. I always have two big bath towels and two hand towels in the bathroom, we just use whatever, clearly if one is wet you use the dry one, and then I wash them every three days or so.

My daughter has her own as she has her own en-suite, but if she's ever using the main bathroom she just uses what's in there.

I always leave fresh towels on the beds for guests, but have one who has a habit of forgetting to take it in so uses ours, I wash it after that, not because I think he has the Lurgy or anything but more the chance of three/four different people using it makes me want to wash it.🤣

Kokeshi123 · 07/06/2019 13:36

We all use any of the towels in the cupboard. They get washed once a week, I guess.... In between washes, they just get hung outside. Guests get a clean towel. No typhus epidemics in the household so far.

TheInebriati · 07/06/2019 13:37

I do mean actual lurgy on the towel, not just touching someone elses bum Grin

purplereindeer · 07/06/2019 13:37

We share towels, but I'm the only daily shower-er in the house (DC 3/4 times a week, DP once a week). I wash everyone else's towels after one shower, mine after every two showers. There are six of us, I wash a lot!

woodhill · 07/06/2019 13:38

Terrible for the environment purple

JinglingHellsBells · 07/06/2019 13:38

@lou780
What are you saying is reasonable or unreasonable? You haven't asked a question Hmm

JinglingHellsBells · 07/06/2019 13:40

We have our own towels and they are washed around once a week or slightly more often. Hand towels for loos and kitchen are washed more often, depending.

Can't quite get why anyone washes a towel after 1 or 2 uses- you are drying a clean body presumably?????

Kokeshi123 · 07/06/2019 13:40

Purple, your DH only showers once a week? Does he wash standing up between times, or does he actually not wash except once a week?

JinglingHellsBells · 07/06/2019 13:41

That is completely ridiculous on every count.

1 Sharing towels
2 Washing after one use.

Floralnomad · 07/06/2019 13:42

As a towel sharer I wouldn’t share with anyone other than dh / dd , we don’t have people to stay , visitors use downstairs loo and towel in there is washed after visitors / workmen . The dog has his own towels .

Loubylou79 · 07/06/2019 13:45

Showering once a week Shock

thegreatcrestednewt · 07/06/2019 13:45

No wonder the planet is going to fuck, with people washing towels after one use. One use to dry a clean body. Insanity.

Fluffytheevil1 · 07/06/2019 13:47

We get fresh towels every time we go in the shower/bath. I change the hand towel weekly. I wouldn’t reuse towels anyway but there’s nowhere to keep them in our bathroom if we did.

poobumwee · 07/06/2019 13:49

Each have our own towel and i wash every couple of days....but I am a bit OCD!

butterboo · 07/06/2019 13:49

DH and I have our own towels and wash them once a week. DC's end up on the floor until shouted at or I hang them up in their bathroom and I change them once a week. PIL's insist on a new towel each shower, it drives me nuts when they come to stay, the washing machine is going constantly and they put it on half empty too!

Oysterbabe · 07/06/2019 13:50

We each have our own and our own pegs to hang them on.

combatbarbie · 07/06/2019 13:51

We all have different colours mainly due to recurring thrush with female family members Sad

Thehop · 07/06/2019 13:52

Share a hand towel and have a bath towel each. Dry them each day and use them until they’re whiffy.....normally about a week. Then hit wash and dried outdoors.

redwoodmazza · 07/06/2019 13:52

Me and my DH have one each.
Can anybody enlighten me as to how his always gets bleached marks on it??? Mine doesn't. Could it be his shaving foam not washed off properly? I am fed up buying him replacements as his look so manky.

TheTitOfTheIceberg · 07/06/2019 13:53

I can't understand how anyone can make a bath towel last a couple of weeks, they just seem not to dry anything after a few uses.

I shower once a day, DH sometimes less often if he's particularly ill (disabled), we have a well-ventilated bathroom and a spacious towel rail. My hair and shower towels are always bone dry by the time I come to shower again and no issues with them getting me dry. I appreciate if you have a damp bathroom or insufficient room to hang towels properly, you might struggle to get them dry enough but I don't have those problems so washing towels every couple of weeks works for us.

CremeEggThief · 07/06/2019 13:53

Bath towel and flannel each, colour coded, and changed weekly. I also have a bath robe, so I mostly use the towel for my hair. The hand towel is shared and changed either once or twice a week. All towels, flannels and the bathmat are dried thoroughly after use.
