How does everyone handle bathroom towels? Does everyone in family have their own towel? Or do you all share whatever towels are in the bathroom?

Separate towels, changed twice a week at least.

ThinkPinkStink · 07/06/2019 12:50

As this is MN I’m just waiting for the poster who changes all the towels three times a day and calls the rest of us grim for not doing the same. 😄

Or someone who chimes in that they change their bedding, on all six beds in their house, every night... waits patiently

Sockworkshop · 07/06/2019 12:51

Oh I see !
I thought you had one towel that you all shared .
I still think its grotty to use a towel used by someone else Envy
awaits the I wash at a cold sink and stand on one leg and never wash my towels brigade

PregnantSea · 07/06/2019 12:52

DH and I share one but we wash at very different times so it's always dry. Also I wash it every 3 days.

icecreamsundae32 · 07/06/2019 12:54

We all of our own bath towels different colour each so no one gets mixed up! Def don't share them! They are washed roughly every 5 days. Kids have their own flannels too. Shared hand towel but have several the same colour so it's changed every 2/3 days

ArchieHarrison · 07/06/2019 12:55

@AlexaAmbidextra our cleaner used to work for a famous england / mediawhore footballer. She described with great horror the daily towel washing from each family member's bathroom, plus the gym, plus the pool. They only had one washing machine. I mean, that's like two full towel loads a day before you even get to sheets and kids / gym clothes (am assuming adults' proper stuff all went to the dry cleaners)

HoppingPavlova · 07/06/2019 12:59

Hang on. When people say they share, do they mean everyone uses the same towel on the same day? So Dad has a shower, uses towel, then Mum uses the same towel, then teenager, then toddler... You all use the same one? Don't they get wet? And very dirty?

This will gross you out, but yes! We all use the same towel.

As it happens we generally have two people shower of a morning, two people shower if an evening due to individual preference. So first person gets a dry towel. Next person gets a wettish/damp towel. It then dries during the day. First evening person uses it dry, next person uses wettish/damp.

The only exception is if someone is sick, towel gets put in with wash after them or if DD has period, then she puts it in wash after use and puts fresh one on rack for next person.

They don’t get dirty as each person has just had a shower which washes all the dirt off so you are just drying off a clean body and we use cetaphil or similar as our body soap Confused.

To gross you out even more we try and get a week out of the one towel if we can. Why? I have enough washing as it is, don’t want one more thing than absolutely needed. The reality is no one has died, become sick or suffered in any way so we will keep on keeping on. If kids (teens and adults)want to use their own they can but by god they will then also be responsible for a load of washing. Cue crickets and reusing of the towelGrin.

anitagreen · 07/06/2019 13:03

Towels only used once and then done on a 60 degree cycle everyone has their own sponge/flannel. Bath mat outside of the back changed every 3 days also done on a 60.

anitagreen · 07/06/2019 13:06

Wow reading this back through I think I am a bit anal using a towel only once Shock I also wash our beds every week

BlueSkiesLies · 07/06/2019 13:07

Everyone has their own towel. Those that need a hair towel have one of those too. Washed weekly or so.

NaturalBornWoman · 07/06/2019 13:08

I'm not sure what people mean when they say they share. Does that mean any towel in the bathroom, whether or not it's been used before by someone else? Or does it mean each person doesn't have their own set of towels, and will use any clean one from the household towels?

I live with just DH. I use one bath sheet and one hair towel which are mine until I put them in the wash, him the same without the hair one. I don't know or care how many times he reuses his towel before putting in the wash; mine normally get changed once during the week. Hand towels in the loos get changed weekly or sooner if grubby looking.

daisypond · 07/06/2019 13:09

hoppingpavlova - our towel system is like yours.

WatchingFromTheSidelines · 07/06/2019 13:10

Thanks for replying HoppingPavlova. Every day is a school day on MN.

So, can I ask where the sharing ends? If you mother in law came over, would she use the share towel? How about a friend? Kid's friends? The dog? Who gets to use the communal towel?

CrispbuttyNo1 · 07/06/2019 13:11

We keep a hand towel in the bathroom which probably gets changed weekly. Bath towels are kept in the bedroom.. Usually on the floor, or on DPs case on the bannister downstairs as he showers then potters around making his breakfast. Again generally washed weekly. Probably more often in summer as easier to get dry on the line.

firstimemamma · 07/06/2019 13:17

Fiancé and I each have our own hanging in the bathroom. Changed every 2-3 days.

Hand towel on bathroom radiator. Changed every 2 days.

Baby's towel hangs in nursery. Changed once a week as it's used less.

Oldraver · 07/06/2019 13:19

Seperate towels and we all have our own stash.

Communal kitchen towels and downstairs loo

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 07/06/2019 13:19

There are four towels but we use whichever is dry. We do all have a normal place we hang them but often use another one.

They get washed once a week or a bit more, whenever I remember really :)

Guests get their own clean towel.

I really can't be bothered with being over fussy about towels.

HelloJackie · 07/06/2019 13:20

Hand towels changed daily
Face towels changed after each use
Bath towels are changed after each use

They all go in a separate wash basket for towels, tea towels and cleaning cloths. Which are also all used for one day and then washed.

higgyhog · 07/06/2019 13:21

none in bathroom, all our bath towels are washed after every use.

Jinglejanglefish · 07/06/2019 13:21

We share towels. We have two bathrooms with towels hung up in each. If there are too many out I'll wash them and put them in the cupboard. Washed as and when really, DP is rubbish at hanging them up so they usually go in the wash when I find them all soggy in the spare room (where his clothes are kept).

Jinglejanglefish · 07/06/2019 13:22

MNetters towel schedules are fascinating.

Eliza9919 · 07/06/2019 13:23

This, again? Who cares what other people do with their towels Hmm

Jinglejanglefish · 07/06/2019 13:23

We have more than one towel. If DP had just had a shower his would be hung up to dry and I'd used a dry one then hang it back on the towel rail. Baby DD has her own towels with the hoods.

happyhillock · 07/06/2019 13:27

All our towels are put in wash basket after shower's, i keep 3 hand towels in the bathroom there in wash basket after 3rd day, sheet's are washed weekly.

BrokenWing · 07/06/2019 13:28

I remember as a child in a family of 5 children and 2 adults we shared bath towels which were hung over the landing to dry, probably 4 towels on the go at a time. It was minging, if you were last for a shower/bath you picked the towel that was least damp and hoped with 3 boys in the house there were no streaks!

We have our own bath towels and own space on the towel warmers (2 in the shower room, and dh hangs his in the bathroom) for them to dry. Means everyone has nice dry towel each time they shower and can decide when they want a fresh one.
