AIBU to think FIFA doesn't actually care about the Women's World Cup?

Or it would at least put the photos up of the teams instead of blank icons?

Even the French team don't warrant it, and it's being hosted by France.

Got to say that this is not a surprise. They don't consider it a serious sport if women are playing.

TheCrowFromBelow · 04/06/2019 19:36

I think it’s a tech error rather than FIFA hating the women’s World Cup but I kind of see your point as I also think the tech error would be fixed faster for the men’s.

I feel like they've made that clear, but this feels like a great big fuck you to women's football.

Why do you think it's a tech error? It would be great if it was.

it’s not just that fifa doesn’t care, the majority of sport spectators don’t care either.

FuckItFuckerArse · 04/06/2019 19:48

Well I was in a packed stadium last week to watch a badly promoted England friendly so I disagree no one cares. It's more like they don't know either..and it's hardly a surprise if the people in charge promote them this way.

The fact that it's "women's football" not just football tells us that FIFA feel the need to distinguish it as "other".

They really don't care. It's a shame. Last world cup was played on turf. Doubt men's teams would be forced to do that (I prefere to play on turf, but most people don't). It's always women's football and football instead of women's and men's football.

Where I'm from they used to reward athlete of the year and female athlete of the year. Then women started winning both categories so they had to change it to male and female athlete of the year.

peanutbutterismydownfall · 04/06/2019 20:06

I got the Sunday Times this weekend so we could fill out the wall chart like we did for the men's World Cup last year. There was no wall chart.

I’m not interested either, to be honest. I see it advertised constantly but I just don’t care. It’s not as fast-paced or exciting as men’s football, for physiological reasons I guess. And even the best players aren’t great. I suppose you need a large pool of talent to sift through in order to find the really good players, and we don’t have as many young girls playing as we do young boys. I just find it boring I’m afraid.

No idea why that could be. Hmm

Is there a reason you posted here just to say you find it boring? You may well, but FIFA should make at least a half assed attempt at adding the women's photos to the webpage.

The 2015 WWC being played on astro-turf instead of real grass (which means an added risk of injury) is all you need to know about FIFA's attitude to the women's game.

Rezie · 04/06/2019 21:29

Of course games where professionals that have the coaches, facilities, money that have training twice a day and get paid millions produce certain type of games. Comparing to few pro teams that gets paid peanuts and have a limited budget who play against amateurs who go to training after work. When appreciation grows, they get more money and therefore development happens.

I enjoy watching football and support my local Arsenal ladies. Even my bf is now a convert and enjoys watching the games since she feels like lionesses have more heart when they are playing.

One thing that annoys me is that men get paid more for representing their country. I think it really shows how little FA (or whatever it is in each country) appreciates women's football. Let's face it, women need that bonus more and equally deserve it. I'm talking about country representation, not salary from clubs.

FuckItFuckerArse · 04/06/2019 21:35

Can you imagine if the men had to hold jobs down, look after their own children and practice on crappy pitches.

Chesterwife · 04/06/2019 21:44

A lot of the comments here are a bit unfair. There are exponentially more people, including women, who enjoy men’s football than women’s football.

It is impossible to get around this and only fair that resources are allocated with regard to level of interest (eg no one would argue that a men’s League Two club deserves the same funding as a Premier League team).

howdoyousolvethisproblem · 04/06/2019 21:47

I sent dh to newsagents to buy When Saturday Comes this month which DID have a wall chart. As did Match. This was after my tirade about Sunday newspapers not including one. We have also ordered a football, as we do for all world cups but it is coming from America!! So who know when it will arrive. I’m also teaching about the World Cup with my class at school, I’m a primary teacher!
So we care here. Although in Scotland it’s been so long since we reached a World Cup final we are not entirely sure how to behave anymore .... France 98 was a long time ago!

derxa · 04/06/2019 21:48

I don't care about women's football. Sorry.

Conks · 04/06/2019 21:48

I’m a woman who loves football and I don’t care about woman’s football

howdoyousolvethisproblem · 04/06/2019 21:50

I’m a woman who loves football .... all football ... regardless of country, league, importance. You either love the game or not surely?

FuckItFuckerArse · 04/06/2019 21:51

Honestly no one gives a fuck if you care about womens football. Fifa should. I don't care about spa days, or chickens that last that last all week so I don't post on those threads.

You can understand that can't you?

OP posts:
NewarkShark · 04/06/2019 21:51

I love men’s football - I’ve never personally been into women’s football but that’s not the point. FIFA is in charge of it and should make a show of pretending to give a fuck about it. It’s ok for some football fans not to like women’s football. It’s not ok for FIFA.

ShitAtScarbble · 04/06/2019 21:51

I understand that if this matters to you that you will, of course, feel passionate about it and I get what you're saying.

I don't think I'm alone in saying I've never watched women playing football and I am quietly confident that I never will.

FuckItFuckerArse · 04/06/2019 21:52

It's just such a stupid fucking comment to make. It sounds like you're actually making the point that FiFa can't be expected to make a basic website because you dont like something. Confused

The fact that it's "women's football" not just football tells us that FIFA feel the need to distinguish it as "other".

This is utter rubbish. It's called women's football because women playing football are in a minority, and are a recent addition. In exactly the same way as people refer to male nurses, but female nurses are just nurses.

FIFA is a flawed organisation but in terms of women's football, they have gone overboard to support it and grow it, bestowing on it more finance and prestige that the numbers playing it often warranted. In 2014, a woman made it into the final 3 for FIFA best goal of the year, and came 2nd.

The big problem for women's football is not FIFA, it's fans. It's more popular than it was, but still nowhere near the huge deal men's football is. Most women who like football have little interest in watching or following a women's team.
