Or it would at least put the photos up of the teams instead of blank icons?

Even the French team don't warrant it, and it's being hosted by France.

don't think I'm alone in saying I've never watched women playing football and I am quietly confident that I never will.
Who said you should? Confused

Seeing as women's football was banned by the FA from 1921-1971 then I do think that women's football should now get the funding to increase its popularity and encourage girls to play it: back in 1920 women's football drew crowds of over 50,000.

At least times have moved on since the 80s when I was told at primary school that I couldn't play football as it was for boys, and was supposed to exercise in PE by patting a tennis ball up and down Hmm

FuckItFuckerArse · 04/06/2019 21:57

It's called women's football because women playing football are in a minority, and are a recent addition. In exactly the same way as people refer to male nurses, but female nurses are just nurses.

That's completely inaccurate and many articles discussing the fact about. that it was popular as long ago as WW1 and then banned for 50 years is well known.

Biggest football game ever watched in america on tv was a woman's game, last I remember.

Fifa doesn't just represent England Hmm

There are exponentially more people, including women, who enjoy men’s football than women’s football.

True, but there's a chicken-and-egg effect there, isn't there? I've been to both and enjoy men's football matches more because they're more of a spectacle - the crowds and atmosphere are as much part of the event as the match itself for me, and I think for a lot of Premier/Championship team fans. But if more people got excited about women's football it would become just as big a deal as men's. It can't just be about differences in strength or ability - I don't see a huge disparity in support for men and women in tennis or athletics.

22 million viewers in one country is a bit niche Grin

www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/amp/47625739 crowd of 60,739 people watched Barcelona beat Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Spain this week."

Not that any of this actually matters as even IF only 10 people watched it, FIFA would still have an obligation to put photos up.

TheCrowFromBelow · 04/06/2019 23:09

Ah thought it might be a tech errro with the photos not uploading but yeah I guess they just CBA with getting the individual photos done.
I emailed fifa and their automated response is about last year’s World Cup Hmm
I’ll be watching!

IsabellaLinton · 04/06/2019 23:12

Honestly no one gives a fuck if you care about womens football

Apparently you do! Aggressive much? Grin

FuckItFuckerArse · 04/06/2019 23:27

I care about people derailing a thread purely to post irrelevant nonsense designed to justify casual sexism of a sporting body against the people it is meant to represent. Actually.

You could have posted
"I like kittens, but not chai lattes" and it would have been as relevant as your post.

OP posts:
TheCrowFromBelow · 04/06/2019 23:31

derxa don’t belittle other people’s passions. just because you have no interest doesn’t mean other people’s interest is worth less.

FuckItFuckerArse · 04/06/2019 23:35

I don't like watching men's football. Over paid, over coiffed, man children rolling about for miles, falling down because someone looked in their direction so I dont watch it. But I still expect them to be treated fairly by the sporting body who deals with them. My opinion on their brand of football is not relevant.

OP posts:
IsabellaLinton · 04/06/2019 23:36

derxa didn’t belittle anyone’s passion. Its not denigrating anything to say you don’t enjoy it. I think she probably responded to another poster who said it’s not just that fifa doesn’t care, the majority of sport spectators don’t care either.

FuckItFuckerArse · 04/06/2019 23:36

You gave them too much credit thecrowfrombelow!

I don't like watching women’s football. Under coiffed, muscular women running for miles and getting nowhere fast. But I agree they should be treated fairly by the sporting body who deals with them.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 04/06/2019 23:48

The fact that it's "women's football" not just football tells us that FIFA feel the need to distinguish it as "other"

So does the fact that theres also a competition called the "the men's association football world cup" mark that out as "other" too

Do you have such problems with the Women's cricket world cup?
Woman's rugby world cup?
Women's four hundred metres?
Woman's French Open title?
Women's world Boxing title?

Or would you like there to be no sex segration at all in sport. Maybe venus williams should be playing against Federer?
Or maybe katie taylor should be fighting who ever is her male coumterpart.

Its the women's world cup cos errr women are competing

GrumbleBumble · 04/06/2019 23:52

Given most of their decisions /behaviour I don't think FIFA give a flying fuck about any football. They care about money, their own self interest, money, bribes, money, bungs and ermmm money.

FuckItFuckerArse · 05/06/2019 00:26

Its the women's world cup cos errr women are competing

So errr why is it not called the Men's World Cup when they compete?

And Errr what does that have to do with Williams and Federer playing against each other?

OP posts:
overnightangel · 05/06/2019 00:36

So basically you only want people to post on your thread to agree with you? Why even start a thread then?

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 05/06/2019 00:37

So errr why is it not called the Men's World Cup when they compete?

because it is!!! Thats exactly what its called!! The men's assocation football world cup ....did you read my reply!! It is called the mens world cup!!

Now you are right the media dont refer to it as the mens world cup there is a presumtion that you don't need the word "mens" but all the competions i mentioned all have mens infront of them.

I asked if you wanted williams and federer to play each other because of your objection to the word 'women's' o presumed that you had a similar issue with the 'mens' title as well. And the only way to remove such offensive titles is to make all sport sex intergrated thete for federer against williams

Katie taylor v her male counterpart

Lioness v three lions
England men rugby v england womens

Good good lets see the outrage on here when that hapoens shall we

IamaBluebird · 05/06/2019 00:40

Well for those of you who are interested Wales women beat New Zealand 1 0 today.
Good game too.

Isithometimeyet0987 · 05/06/2019 00:43

Fifa care about money that’s it and women’s football doesn’t bring in anywhere near as much money as men’s does. Weather that’s partly FIFA’s fault by not advertising or uploading pictures etc is another argument. My personal opinion though as a football fan is that men’s is more exciting to watch and a better atmosphere.

FuckItFuckerArse · 05/06/2019 00:48

So basically you only want people to post on your thread to agree with you? Why even start a thread then?

No, if you're happy for women to be discriminated against, please feel free to own that. But that has nothing to do with the fact that some people don't want to watch woman's football.

Some men don't like women doctors. This does not mean that the BMA should not acknowledge women doctors. Geddit?

Well the Mens world cup is being played in fucking Qatar, and was last played in Russia due to a dodgy bid which all the computers used suddenly magically vanished. FIFA dont care about football, they care about lining their own pockets through as much corruption as possible.

FuckItFuckerArse · 05/06/2019 00:58

I read your reply but funny enough I've decided to defer to Fifa's own webpage and not SadOnions and her over enthusiastic exclamation points.

Now let us begin with the web address. World cup. Not men's world cup. World cup.
www.fifa.com/worldcup/

Then let us move on to their webpage which is entitled Russia World Cup and doesn't use the word men anywhere on the front page.

www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/ hmm woman in the address. Woman's world cup on the front page. Sensing a pattern here.

Let's check google and Wikipedia. Nope pretty sure it's the Fifa World Cup and the Fifa Women's World Cup.
