AIBU to think that straight people shouldn't be dictating who should be able to go to Pride?

I'm a woman. I'm a mum. I'm also someone who has been an LGBT+ activist for most of her adult life. I used to go on Pride marches when it was a little bit scary to do so, when there was always a message at the end from the stage about being careful when you were going home and away from the safety of the gay-friendly crowd.

Susie Green, Mermaids CEO, is a straight woman. Which is fine! She is opposed to women declaring that lesbians don't have penises. Which is less fine, but eh, she's entitled to believe whatever daft things she wants. But - however many friends and relatives she has who fit under the LGBT+ banner - Pride isn't about her, or any other straight "allies".

And yet here she is, declaring that "We will only take part if we are satisfied that concerns have been addressed". This is because she is very keen to prevent lesbians who believe that lesbians don't have penises from participating in the Pride march.

Susie, we don't give a shit whether you take part or not. We don't agree with you that women standing up for the validity of same-sex attraction, for female homosexuality, qualifies as "hate". We really don't care what you want to happen or don't want to happen at Pride. Pride was created by people like us, in times of great need, and you don't get to dictate what we will or won't do. This isn't for you.

AIBU to think Susie Green and others like her should stay in their lane?

Pride being inclusive of heterosexual males and exclusive of lesbians...? nah, you haven’t sold it to me on the “inclusivity” front, sorry Booboo.

TalkingintheDark · 04/06/2019 12:33

Very interesting, OvaHere. Very interesting.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/06/2019 12:34

I clicked. It was lesbophobic bollocks.

TalkingintheDark · 04/06/2019 12:34

Kind of looks like that’s what Booboo is saying, doesn’t it Empress? 🤔

winterinmadeira · 04/06/2019 12:35

YANBU - the cotton ceiling in action..

Michelleoftheresistance · 04/06/2019 12:48

How about 'inclusive' for homosexual women, Booboo ? Why does inclusion these days always involve celebrating the triumphal exclusion of women negatively affected?

Not really 'inclusion' is it?

You do realise in some circles a woman homosexual calling herself a 'lesbian' is enough for her to be designated a t**f? And you have noticed the signs and banners at some international pride events about murdering homosexual women who defend their right to be homosexual? Hanging I think was one of them, there were some very explicit graphics.

What do you think homosexual women affected by this should ideally do? I'd love to know. Writing to my MP about it isn't really achieving much you see.

NotBadConsidering · 04/06/2019 12:48

Regarding Marsha P Johnson:

  1. definitely referred to themselves as gay.
  2. definitely had sex with men.

These things are indisputable. So if TRAs want to dead-trans Johnson and make Johnson a woman, how does that work logically? If Johnson was a woman and gay, she would be a lesbian having sex with women wouldn’t she? She would have to be a straight woman to match how Johnson actually identified as when alive, and how people want to identify Johnson now.

Of course for this logic failure to be explained TRAs would have to admit either

  1. you can’t trans the dead or
  2. lesbians can’t have penises.

Which they won’t do.

YANBU OP.

OP, YANBU

Michelleoftheresistance · 04/06/2019 12:54

Ooh and I nearly forgot the American museum LGBT display that shared bloodstained t shirts and pastel coloured barbed wire baseball bats along with the death threats to t**fs, which of course include homosexual women who refuse sex with males who identify as trans.

This was of course challenged by women since if such death threats and violence was celebrated towards any other group in the western world there would be outrage. Can you imagine such a display against disabled people or BAME or trans people being tolerated? But no, the museum insisted it was perfectly socially acceptable to celebrate the punishment of women who are non compliant in their bodily autonomy and sexuality.

TalkingintheDark · 04/06/2019 13:01

Oh yes that exhibition at SFPL was a truly stunning piece of “inclusivity”, wasn’t it Michelle?

And so brave, of course. Males threatening violence against females always is, isn’t it?

If you feel that you cannot attend an event because you will be in proximity with a member of a group other members of which have objectionable beliefs then you are prejudiced and your prejudices should not be indulged.

And so when Susie Green objects to the presence of lesbians who want to celebrate their sexuality...

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/06/2019 13:19

So if you feel that you cannot attend an event because some women won't have sex with you because, even though you have the 'women feelz', you also have a dick, and these individuals have no desire to have have sex with dick bearers, which you find objectionable, then you are prejudiced and have no place at a LGBT event? Yep - I'm up with that!

OvaHere · 04/06/2019 13:19

Some lesbians are not rapists Booboo. In the UK rape is a specific crime that involves a penis - which lesbians don't have.

It's important to be very careful chucking around stuff like this because acting like women pose anywhere near the same level of threat to other women as men (no matter how they ID) is partly why we are in this mess where women's boundaries are being broken down and told to accept the unacceptable

TalkingintheDark · 04/06/2019 13:22

An event which is about celebrating sexual diversity and inclusivity should be open to anyone who wants to celebrate that except lesbians who want to celebrate being lesbians, apparently.

TalkingintheDark · 04/06/2019 13:24

Indeed, YetAnotherSpartacus! Grin

Lesbian solidarity- YANBU!!!

Hoppinggreen · 04/06/2019 13:33

Did somebody seriously post that having a penis doesn’t mean you are a man?
Jesus fucking Christ, what the hell has happened ?

Welcome to the brave new world, Hopping!

Cheeserton · 04/06/2019 13:38

Rubbish, Ova. Women have rarely been convicted of rape in the UK. You don't have to have a penis to be part of a rape.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 04/06/2019 13:43

And you honestly couldn't make it up. Lesbians at Pride. Harrowing and hateful.

Yes Lesbians at pride, defining themselves. Not anyone else, just themselves. Not imposing a label or definition on trans people. Just holding a banner that describes what they, the lesbians, are.

Lesbians can’t even define themselves at pride FFS!

OvaHere · 04/06/2019 13:44

Women cannot be convicted of rape in the UK, they can be convicted of being an accessory to rape or aiding and abetting and numerous other sexual offences but the crime of rape is clearly defined by ownership of a penis.

Michelleoftheresistance · 04/06/2019 13:45

If you feel that you cannot attend an event because you will be in proximity with a member of a group other members of which have objectionable beliefs then you are prejudiced and your prejudices should not be indulged.

Precisely! Completely agree with you!

That's exactly the message that needs to be given to Mermaids and Green since they're the only ones trying to control who can attend.

TalkingintheDark · 04/06/2019 13:47

Cheeserton, no, you don’t have to have a penis to be part of a rape but there can’t be a rape without a penis. Yes, a very few women have been convicted of rape in a collaborative sense but as you say, it’s extremely rare, and no woman can carry out a rape alone.

And lesbians are just about the most unlikely demographic of women to assist a man in raping another woman that there is. So stop with the bullshit about lesbian rapists.

Focus instead on the extraordinary phenomenon of “women” with a penis being convicted of rape and the crime being recorded as committed “by a woman”, skewing crime stats and distorting reality.

Brave new world indeed.
