Can we get into trouble?

We had our roof redone this week wi5h all drain pipes fascia borads done. Our neighbours ariel was on our front fascia board. So the builders had to take it down and put it back up on there house.
She came round yesterday saying how cheeky it was to touch there ariel and that it wasnt working downstairs that the wore wasnt connected and wanted my 14 year old to go uo and fix the wire. Now shes not been up so cant see how she knows how its not connected as theres no wores hanging down.
Can we get into trouble touching her ariel or are we within rights as it was on our property. Its not been moved by much.

If she can't get TV reception then it's odds on she knows the arial has been moved whether wires can be seen or not!

Why was it on your facia in the first place? Perhaps it might have been a good idea to talk to your neighbour before arial was moved and tell her?

sunshinesupermum · 03/06/2019 07:24

And no you can't 'get into trouble' - the arial should never have been on your property in the first place.

aPengTing · 03/06/2019 07:25

You need to get someone to sort it, you can’t just fuck around with peoples stuff like that and not expect them to be pissed off.

Seaandsand83 · 03/06/2019 07:26

If its on your property it needed to be moved anyway and it is not your responsibility to install it properly on her own roof! YANBU!

TixieLix · 03/06/2019 07:26

I'd say she was the CF for attaching her aerial to your fascia board in the first place. It may have been polite to tell them in advance you were going to move the aerial, but you had every right to remove it from your property. Not sure how she can see the wires. It's her responsibility to get the aerial adjusted, not your son's. It probably needs an engineer to look at it.

Harleyisme · 03/06/2019 07:26

I dont know why it was on. We have tried to talk to them about things but they never answer there door.
I know she knows its been moved. I get that she says the ariels working upstairs not downstairs and says the wire has come out but you can't see any lose wires looking up.

If she's going to be arsey then I'd remove the aerial from my property completely.

BasinHaircut · 03/06/2019 07:29

Did you speak to the neighbour about it before it was moved? I’m assuming you don’t know why it was on your house (has been there since before you lived there?) but she may or may not have realised either.

From her POV all you’ve done is moved her Ariel and now it doesn’t work, regardless of where or why. If you’ve had the facia replaced then of course you had to move it but in an ideal world I think you would have given her the opportunity to get it re-sited herself before you did your roof do it didn’t become your problem at all.

Backinthebox · 03/06/2019 07:29

“You need to get someone to sort it, you can’t just fuck around with peoples stuff like that and not expect them to be pissed off.”

Are you taking about the person who moved an aerial whilst repairing her own property or the person who screwed their aerial to someone else’s property here? I had a neighbour who damaged my property by using it instead of their own property for something, and I was very pissed off. I expected them to do something about it. Not the other way round.

Harleyisme · 03/06/2019 07:31

I would have given them every opportunity if they answered the door when you knock.
It has been moved from my property to hers.

OP posts:
Shoxfordian · 03/06/2019 07:31

She knows it's not connected because her tv isn't working! I'd be annoyed with you as well op

Harleyisme · 03/06/2019 07:33

All what would be annoyed. What am i supposed to do then if i can never get them to answer the door to talk to them. Just not do the roof repair that desprately needed to be done?

OP posts:
motherheroic · 03/06/2019 07:35

Let them be annoyed. Not your problem.

LuluBellaBlue · 03/06/2019 07:36

She is being a CF and you haven’t done anything wrong, it shouldn’t of been on your property.
Just ignore her when she knocks like she clearly did to you!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2019 07:41

Ignore her. If she ever does talk to you just keep repeating "It was on my property. You wouldn't talk to me. It got moved"

NewSchoolNewName · 03/06/2019 07:43

It would have been polite to tell them you were moving the ariel - which should never have been on your roof in the first place without your consent - but there’s not much you can do about it if they won’t answer the door to you.

I’d not be sending a 14 yr old up a ladder to check the ariel though regardless. She should get someone who knows about ariels out to look at it.

BasinHaircut · 03/06/2019 07:44

A note through the door?

To be clear, I wouldn’t be asking their permission or anything, just telling them that I was having work done on x date that meant their arial needed to be removed from your property by x date or it would be taken down and left in their front garden for them to sort out.

I can see what’s happened, you have tried to be nice about it and sort it out for them but by doing so you have transferred some liability to yourselves.

IHeartArya · 03/06/2019 07:47

It shouldn’t have been on your property. It should have been on theirs. The only thing you did wrong was not putting a note through her door when they didn’t answer. Not your problem.

If she knocks again

It was on my property. You didn’t answer your door when I knocked X number of times to inform you. It’s your responsibility to have your aerial for your tv on your property. And repeat.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 03/06/2019 07:49

Correct scenario, you knock on the door to tell her she needs to move her ariel by the date the man comes. If she doesn’t answer you put a friendly note through the door. If she ignores you, you do what you have done and forget about it,

Unfortunately it’s all a bit awkward now as the ariel isn’t working. I highly doubt a facia board fitter had the right equipment to get a tv receiver pointing exactly right to pick up all her channels. So he just physically put it up.

She will have to get a TV Ariel person round to adjust it. I doubt a cable is anything to do with it.

Whether you should contribute is a grey area, you moved her ariel without telling her, but her ariel was trespassing.

🤷‍♀️

NauseousMum · 03/06/2019 07:55

She's the CF for putting it on your house in the first place. You are well within your rights to remove it. They are lucky you fixed it properly, even if it's not working fully. Now it's their issue.

Pipandmum · 03/06/2019 07:58

She may have had permission from previous owners to put the aerial on your property. Or even the previous owners of her property. And of course you should have given her warning (a letter if she doesn’t answer her door). However that’s all happened now and you need to fix it. You moved her aerial and it doesn’t work. If you want to keep relations civil suck it up and get an engineer in.

onalongsabbatical · 03/06/2019 08:00

Did you not think of putting a note through the door OP?

Harleyisme · 03/06/2019 08:04

Unfortunately i didnt think to put note though her door.

I am not nasty. I didnt do anything to be nasty. It needed to be moved she didnt answer i didnt think to put a note though the door. So it was moved as it had to be moved anyway.

OP posts:
Sooverthemill · 03/06/2019 08:04

Do you own this property? When you purchased it you would have had a form from solicitors detailing stuff like this. Did neighbour install fatervyou moved in or before?

Atalune · 03/06/2019 08:05

The wires hanging down are neither here nor there!

You need to rectify the problem.
