To ask how long did it take you to get pregnant

Did you take ovulation tests or just leave it to chance?
What lifestyle changes did you make and how did you stay positive when getting negative test results?
I’m 29 and we’ve only been trying for a couple of months but I’m (a little prematurely I know) starting to panic that I might be infertile or that dh might be.

OP posts:

1 month at 26 years old. Took some folic acid and got my weight under control but that was all in terms of lifestyle. I did do ovulation tests and had sex in the days leading up to ov and the day of and after (just to cover all bases..think we called it an 'insurance bang' 🙈). Also used a lube called conceive plus, as I read that normal lubes can impede the sperms journey or something. Thought it couldnt do any harm! Bish bash bosh preggo by the end of Jan and now I have a nearly 2 year old. What a whirlwind its been!

Toombumber · 31/05/2019 20:13

Straightaway, first month all four times.

Thatsnotmyotter · 31/05/2019 20:15

We weren’t actively trying but not preventing either. We didn’t use contraception for 18 months before I fell pregnant with DS when I was 25. My cycles were an utter mess though, anything from 30-90 days long. I could usually tell when I’d ovulated so I know we were definitely having sex in my fertile window (just by chance though as obviously once I knew I’d ovulated, it was too late!).

Thatsnotmyotter · 31/05/2019 20:17

Just to add, I was a healthy weight, very fit and active (running marathons, doing triathlons etc.), and basically a non drinker so there wasn’t really any massive lifestyle changes that I could make!

floraloctopus · 31/05/2019 20:21

A month the first time and six years the next time.

missmouse101 · 31/05/2019 20:28

1st time both times. Know when I'm ovulating by timing, discharge etc.

DramaAlpaca · 31/05/2019 20:44

I had my DC in the mid-90s when there were no ovulation testing kits & pregnancy tests were expensive & not as sensitive as they are today. I've literally only taken three, each time it was when I was a few days late just to confirm as I was already sure.

I had a regular 28 day cycle & was fairly certain I ovulated on day 14. So we concentrated on DTD around then. It still took 11 months to conceive DC1, when I was 28. I admit I was getting a bit concerned, then it finally happened.

DC2 took one go, literally. I was still breastfeeding, DC1 was only 6 months, it had taken a while to get DC1, we didn't mind having two close together if it happened - I just wasn't expecting a 16 month age gap Grin

DC3 took four months, again timed around ovulation day. We missed out two months of trying because I didn't want a July or August baby, conceived at Christmas & got the September baby I was hoping for. I was 33.

MaryShelley1818 · 31/05/2019 20:47

DS took 4mths when I was 39.
Currently 41 and ttc baby number 2 for 5mths.

MrsPerfect12 · 31/05/2019 20:51

First time straight away but I didn't really know until 10 weeks as every pregnancy test until a blood test was negative 😱
Second 9 months and MC used ovulation monitor and test sticks

Third 2 month after that.
Forth 1 Year but was pretty relaxed no monitors etc, went with what will be will be approaching as DC was only one.

neoshaz · 31/05/2019 22:44

First time lucky in late 30s. I was expecting it to take 6 months at least so it was a shock. To give us the best chance i started prepregnancy folic acid a month before trying, predicted my ovulation with an app, confirmed it with a test strip and we did the deed every one of my 5 fertile nights.

Needless to say it was extremely unromantic by night 5 and we both said there's no way we could have kept that up for months on end and were planning on taking a more relaxed approach for the next months but we got lucky.

I knew i was pregnant within a week or so...you're not meant to be able to feel it bit i could feel a pulling sensation and knew something was going on down there!

Missmonkeypenny · 31/05/2019 22:48

DD ( age 5 ) - accidental pregnancy with coil in situ when aged 20

DC2 who I’m currently 9 weeks pregnant with (different dad) - three years, £6k, one round of IVF resulting in 4 frozen embryos, one of which we transferred and luckily it’s worked the first time. DH said he always had a hunch he couldn’t have children and that was confirmed 18 months into our TTC journey!

eurochick · 31/05/2019 22:57

Three years, following two rounds of iui and four of ivf. I also had a miscarriage from our first ivf round. We were unexplained - 34/35 and healthy when we started trying. It just didn't happen without help.

MuchTooTired · 31/05/2019 23:04

Started ttc aged 26, 5 years and 1 round of ivf later I fell pregnant with twins.

I tried everything prior to ivf, nothing worked, and we still don’t know why - I just think I can’t get pregnant naturally. I do however make amazing babies 😉

nauseous5000 · 31/05/2019 23:05

JaJu14 · 01/06/2019 12:40

anitagreen · 01/06/2019 12:44

My first took two years at 21 my second was by accident the first time we didn't use a condom he was born 18 months after my first, my third took about a year

Mamabear12 · 01/06/2019 12:48

Dd - first and only try
Ds - first and only try
3rd baby - currently pregnant and took 6 months!

I admit I started worrying something was wrong when it didn’t happen after the first three tries third time around bc I was used to it just happening. The reason we got pregnant so easily first two times I think was we are a healthy weight, don’t drink more then one or two coffees a day, no smoking and I had very regular cycle. Third time around I started habit of drinking a little more often. And my cycles became shorter w spotting before. I think this made it take longer. I got pregnant when I started taking extra vitamin C on top of a prenatal vitamin. I took these to help prepare my body.

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 01/06/2019 12:51

9m for DC1. My periods went a bit haywire (not sure if it was coming off the pill or stressing about ttc) and eventually went to the Dr to get it checked out. While waiting for the results of tests I decided that it wasn’t going to happen anytime soon so I might as well stop worrying about it until I got the results back. Found out I was pregnant before results came back.

DC2 I kind of pretended we weren’t trying haha. Kept a rough eye on fertile dates but other than that tried to put it out of my head. Pregnant on 2nd month trying.

The advice to just relax is so frustrating but it really did work for me.

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 01/06/2019 12:53

8 years

Ifeelbloodyawful · 01/06/2019 13:01

DC1 - 5 months (temping, ovulation sticks, used the CBAFM the month I got pregnant).

DC2 pregnant first month trying. Just paid attention to cervical mucus.

Maddiemademe · 01/06/2019 13:02

9 years DS
3 years DD
Currently on cycle 15 with no luck yet. No known cause

kidsmakesomuchwashing · 01/06/2019 13:09

First month of trying with DS1 and first month of trying with DD2.
I stopped drinking, eating well, no caffeine and taking the conception vitamins about 3 months before we wanted to try. I also used ovulation sticks for 3 months before so I knew accurate cycle for the month we wanted to try. I wanted to try and be pregnant at a particular time of year hence the forward planning. It worked - both time.
Could of course just all be luck!

JustMe81 · 01/06/2019 13:13

I had an unexpected but wanted pregnancy at 26, which sadly ended in miscarriage. Was diagnosed with PCOS and took 9 years to conceive my son. We started trying for baby 2 when he was a year old and fell pregnant 5 months later. That also ended in miscarriage this January. Waited a cycle and tried again, I’m now 15 weeks pregnant.
