Did you take ovulation tests or just leave it to chance?
What lifestyle changes did you make and how did you stay positive when getting negative test results?
I’m 29 and we’ve only been trying for a couple of months but I’m (a little prematurely I know) starting to panic that I might be infertile or that dh might be.

About 6 months. For the first 5 months we just left it to chance, didn't use contraception but I wouldn't say we were actively "trying". The 6th month I started tracking cervical changes and I got pregnant that month.

Throughout the whole 6 months I didn't drink, I took folic acid and vitamin d supplements

Oysterbabe · 31/05/2019 12:07

DD - 5 months and I was 34
DS - 2 months and I was 36.

I used ovulation sticks with both.

TinyPaws · 31/05/2019 12:09

Got pregnant on IUI #2, IUI #3 and IVF #1. (Same sex partner, hence the fertility treatment). Have yet to make it out of the first trimester. Learned the tough way that a pregnancy does not necessarily mean a baby.

Everyone's journey is different, but as you're young and you've been trying

Moralitym1n1 · 31/05/2019 12:13

About 4/5 times (having sex once each time around the 'right' time. Due to husband's schedule and lack of sex drive on both sides; once was all we managed).

I was 40.5

Used ovulation tests, when I got pregnant I actually thought we'd had sex too early.

Lifestyle; didn't drink or smoke anyway. Took pre conception vitamins, me all the time, him sometimes. (Vitabiotics do his and hers conception pack).

My diet was very good - are lots of big salads with avocado, mackerel, black/kidney beans, kale, spinach, tomatoes, walnuts etc.

Did regular light exercise.

Moralitym1n1 · 31/05/2019 12:13

*ate

There is evidence that zinc (seafood, pumpkin seeds etc), selenium (brazil nuts etc) help fertility.

There seems to be evidence that Q10/ubiquinol help egg quality.

rosydreams · 31/05/2019 12:18

first one one contraceptive accident and i was pregnant
second was planned took a few months i carefully planned with ovulation tests as due to long term contraception i was unsure of fertile days.I dont know if it helped but after a few months i tried conceive plus once and after that try i was pregnant.

bumblingalonghappily · 31/05/2019 12:18

7 months age 29. I was very much like you- by month 4 I was really panicking about it- I didn't find it v reassuring when people said that 4 months wasn't long, as at the time you don't know if it will be another few months or if there's actually a problem. Month 6 we had some private tests done which mostly indicated everything was fine ( my AMH was pretty high and I had about 30 follicles on a TV scan which is an indication of pcos but they didn't seem worried for some reason). We got pregnant 2 weeks later and I'm currently 15 weeks!

In terms of lifestyle, I took prenatal vitamins from 6 months prior to ttc and also gave up all caffeine at that point. Did drink some alcohol while ttc though- (pretty sure conception happened while I was tipsy one weekend celebrating a hen do!) but was told it was fine in moderation and that for the first week or so after conception the embryo isn't connected to the mothers bloodstream.

Bearberry · 31/05/2019 12:18

First time I was on the pill.

Second time was a very concerted effort that took 3 months. I used ovulation tests but didn’t trust them so just settled for dtd every other day to be sure. The month we did that was the month I got pregnant however that of course could have been just chance.

HotChocolateLover · 31/05/2019 12:19

About 10 mins 😂

Lazypuppy · 31/05/2019 12:20

3 months.

No lifestyle changes, as i don't drink/smoke/eat unhealthily anyway.

Used loads of ovulation strips for the week around ovulation.

Ttc was the most unromantic thing ever Grin.strong line on ovulation stick, dtd whether we really wanted to or not

HalfBloodPrincess · 31/05/2019 12:20

3 months for #1
7 months for #2
3 months for #3
7 months for #4 (mmc @12 weeks Sad)
4 months for #5

bumblingalonghappily · 31/05/2019 12:21

Oh and because of the panicking and over worrying I used opks throughout, also tracked my bbt and ewcm (both which helped I think) and alternated between preseed and conceive plus from the outset. I really think it's mostly luck to be honest- I KNOW there were multiple months when we drd several times at the right time as I was using so many methods to track my ovulation, and the month we got pregnant we only dtd twice!

boobirdblue · 31/05/2019 12:22

I was lucky enough to stop the pill and conceive immediately with number one, didn't even have a period.

Number two we were badly using condoms as contraception, never fell when we were using them although sometimes they weren't used and DH withdrew. We would've been happy to fall pregnant if it had failed.

Again lucky enough to fall pregnant immediately and again before my next period.

DH had a vasectomy two years later, we were concerned that I'd fallen so easily twice and didn't want another baby.

goose1964 · 31/05/2019 12:22

I never "tried", I was on the pill and I don't think it worked as I got pregnant 3 times

weegiemum · 31/05/2019 12:23

1 month
2 months
Not At All!

Remember for us it was 20 years ago! No temping, no charting, no ovulation kits, just counted the days from my last period and went for it round about then. Dd1 conceived on 1st cycle (dh rather put our, he was looking forward to "trying" a bit longer Smile).

After her, we conceived on 1st cycle but mc, and then 2 cycles after that I got pg with ds.

Dd2 was an utter surprise. I had a mirena. So no idea how long that one took, not that long I think as I'd not had a period. I was 8 weeks when I found out.

lucymegan · 31/05/2019 12:23

1st- wasn't planning on having a baby so was a shock.

2nd- found out I was pregnant on the day of my 8 week check after having dd1.

3rd- 2 Months off trying

4th- 3months

5th- 2 months

Sort of trying again. Not on any contraception. Just seeing what happens.

flyings0l0 · 31/05/2019 12:26

three times within 1-2 months in my early to mid 30s. One miscarriage though. I have endo and only one ovary too. Didn't cause issues after all. I was lucky, I suppose.

CatG85 · 31/05/2019 12:26

I've been very lucky and I fell pretty much as soon as we started trying but I was on honeymoon, happy, relaxed, no stress.
I think this is really important. My friend tried for a very long time and either wasn't falling pregnant for months at a time or when she did, the pregnancies never went full term unfortunately. After speaking to a fertility expert, before starting her on treatment they discussed lifestyles and it came to light that she was extremely stressed with work. She decided to give work up and fell pregnant pretty quickly and carried full term. She now has two beautiful DS's.
I had also stopped my pill around 2 months before trying so it was out of my system which probably helped.

Igotmylipstickon · 31/05/2019 12:28

Around 3 months on both.

Was in my 30s. Did nothing differently, except coming off contraception and taking folic acid.

happymummy12345 · 31/05/2019 12:29

It took 4 months from me coming off the pill to conceive. I didn't make any changes. I carried on as normal and left it to chance.

nokidshere · 31/05/2019 12:31

17 yrs

Metalhead · 31/05/2019 12:34

2 months @age 29
4 months @age 33, ended in mmc
11 months @age 34

I tracked ovulation and at the end took some supplements that were meant to improve egg quality and cut down on alcohol.

Liverbird77 · 31/05/2019 12:42

Eight months. Conceived at 40, had him at 41. I was taking folic acid and vitamin D for the whole eight months.
My bmi was /is far higher than I wanted.
I did try to stop eating chocolate etc as I was scared of gestational diabetes ( didn't have it, thankfully).
We are about to start TTC number two now baby is five months. I've cut right down on alcohol, though not completely (will obviously not have any once pregnant), and I am going to the gym.

Happyspud · 31/05/2019 12:44

0 months, 0 months, 0 months, 0 months (accident, was actively trying not to get pregnant).

But the above is quite unusual. Anything up to a year would be very very normal.
