To ask how long did it take you to get pregnant

Did you take ovulation tests or just leave it to chance?
What lifestyle changes did you make and how did you stay positive when getting negative test results?
I’m 29 and we’ve only been trying for a couple of months but I’m (a little prematurely I know) starting to panic that I might be infertile or that dh might be.

OP posts:
helloooomeee · 31/05/2019 15:28

1 month - PUL
2 months - mc
3 months - ds1 (7)
0 months - ds2 (3)
2 months - mmc
1 month - dt's (3 months)

I get pregnant easily but struggle to stay pregnant. Still, I got more than I bargained for last time round! We're all done now.

Pomfluff · 31/05/2019 15:31

We were loosely using the rhythm method. I have regular cycles so I knew my fertile window was the 1-2 days when I had EWCM, ovulation pains and a headache . During our entire relationship we only had unprotected sex about 6 times during the fertile window and I got pregnant 3 times Blush (twice at 31 and once at 33). Sadly the first two ended up in miscarriages and my problem wasn't getting pregnant but staying pregnant. Every pregnancy I have is high risk and needs to be closely monitored :(

NCforthis2019 · 31/05/2019 15:32

1 month after coming off the depo shot. I used ovulation tests with both my pregnancies - fell Pregnant very quickly

TheGoogleMum · 31/05/2019 15:34

I conceived aged 29 - it happened 6 months after coming off the pill (it did take nearly 3 months for period to start after mini pill). I have no known fertility problems and used ovulation tests and fertility tracking apps to try to catch the best time. As fate would have it, I felt unwell a lot of the time off the pill and DH sometimes struggled with mental health, so the month we conceived we only DTD once and although it was near the estimated fertile window (I don't think I bothered with ovulation tests that month) I had assumed we were out for the month and was going to take a break from it for a few months... and then my period was a little later so I thought I'd better rule out pregnancy and so it really can just take 1 time!
Speaking to other parent friends with similar ages babies it took most of them over a year also despite no known fertility issues. I also know someone with pcos who conceived after 3 months off the pill...

Sleepyhead11 · 31/05/2019 15:37

@Whatelsecouldibecalled your quote about pissing on ten pound notes made me sob laugh. So bloody true. And AF always comes as soon as you've pee'd on the expensive FRER.

Sleepyhead11 · 31/05/2019 15:40

@hellotoyellow my cycles are fairly regular so figured I didn't need OV sticks, but now on cycle four and wondering. Please can you tell me how far off the whole day 14 before period thing actually is?

Sorry for hijacking your thread OP and thanks for starting it. It's a question I am desperate to know the answer to as so many friends got pregnant right away, or by accident.

Becca83 · 31/05/2019 15:47

One month both times we tried.
I tracked ovulation both times.
Was ages 31 and 35.
I appear to come from a ridiculously fertile family though.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 31/05/2019 16:30

@sleepyhead11 yep no better guaranteed way to start your period than peeing on a FRER Hmm

Ilovemypyjamas · 31/05/2019 16:32

Pregnancy 1, age 27 took 6 months
Pregnancy 2 age 29 took 4 months but I mc
Pregnancy 3 - age 29 took 3 months also mc
Pregnancy 4 age 29 took 1 month and I am now 7 months pregnant

I have regular 26 day cycles, we didn't use ovulation sticks or anything, just DTD ever couple of nights around when I felt like I was ovulating.

Funnyface1 · 31/05/2019 17:00

First month of trying, both pregnancies. Conceived first at 24 and second at 30. No lifestyle changes and didn't have to wait for contraception to leave my system as just using condoms leading up to both.

BrexitBirgit · 31/05/2019 17:15

Age 33: one or two cycles after stopping the pill
Age 36 (normal cycles had resumed after stopping BFing): about 8 months

No explicit lifestyle changes but was never a heavy drinker or a smoker. Moderately active (walking/cycling everywhere as we had no car) About 10kg overweight / BMI of 25.

CornishMaid1 · 31/05/2019 17:24

You don't need to start panicking after a couple of months unless you have some reason to suspect an issue, such as you suffer from other gynaecological issues. I know the wait is hard when you expect it to be quick and you are excited, but the majority get pregnant within a year.

I have tried pretty much all the tips and tricks you hear of. Nearly 5 1/2 years into trying for our first (started at 30, now 35). None of those tips and tricks worked and we are currently on another round of IVF.

MsFanackerPants · 31/05/2019 17:26

I got pregnant first month of trying with my first and then 2nd month with my second. I had a copper coil though and had been tracking my cycle for years before my first attempt at TTC so had a pretty solid idea of when I was due to ovulate.
I was 32 and 36, husband 33 and 37. No other changes other than starting folic acid. We were kinda surprised to be honest. Most of our friends seemed to take around 6 to 9 months so we had expected the same.

Mississippilessly · 31/05/2019 17:27

So sorry yo hear of so many people struggling. It must be very tough.

I had the coil removed in November and found iut i was pregnant in December so 1 month.
Will hopefully start TTC number 2 this year.

SIJ23 · 31/05/2019 17:32

A year the first time-had a missed miscarriage in December started trying again in January and currently 9 weeks pregnant 🤞 we have tried all sorts but the month we actually fell we both took antenatal vitamins, we both had barely any alcohol, i used ovulation sticks and we used preseed. I personally don't know if any of this stuff helped as had been using ov. Tests for months and have used preseed before but thought we would give it a go- me and my husband had decided if it didn't work that month we were going to book a mini break and throw all the tests etc away- had even found a hotel so it might have been that that did it! 🙈

notlikelybyhalf · 31/05/2019 17:49

Pregnancy 1: accident Grin
Pregnancy 2: 2 months (mc)
Pregnancy 3: 1 month Grin

CharminglyGawky · 31/05/2019 17:51

Hard to tell for us really as I purposefully didn't keep track cos I knew I'd torture myself thinking about it, probably about 18months of no protection but no real planning, then about 6 months of ovulation tests, then a break for about 4 months in the run up to our wedding and I was pregnant 5 months after our wedding.

It was a long time though, I remember crying when a friend announced their pregnancy, and then again when their baby was born. Obviously in private, as far as she knew I was all smiles and congratulations.

MummyKnowsAll · 31/05/2019 17:52

I think I had it very easy. Conceived first DC the first month we tried when I was 38. Aged 39 and when DD was 7 months I conceived again first time we tried. We'd figured that maybe the first time was a fluke and given my age we'd best not hang around but it turned out both were conceived first month we tried.
By 42 I was peri-menopausal and by 45 was in full menopause so I guess we got very lucky.

PeachandBee · 31/05/2019 17:58

0 months (whoops)
12 months (mc)
12 months (mc)
1 month (mc)
9 months (mc)
1 month (straight after last mc)
0 months (apparently you CAN get pregnant after having sex just once in 18 months and outside your fertile period)

So a mixed bag here. But I can understand you've been told for years if you so much as look at a condom incorrectly you'll get pregnant so it not happening right away is unnerving. Saying 'just relax'is pointless because we know you cant! Just keep telling yourself theres no reason this month shouldn't be the month it happens and you have plenty of time.

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 31/05/2019 18:00

First time I think it was 4 months and had my son. Then 3 miscarriages back to back, so I conceived directly after each mc. Stopped trying, accidentally got pregnant 3 months later, lost that one as well. Think I'll take the hint and give up now.

MerryDeath · 31/05/2019 18:01

the first was an accident. the second was conceived the first ovulation after my coil came out Hmm annoying because in those 3 weeks we somehow decided to and succeeded in buying a horribly expensive virtually, derelict house thinking "we aren't going to get pregnant for a while are we!" ha. ha. ha.

Yogagirl123 · 31/05/2019 18:04

I count myself as truly blessed, had two DS’s conceived the first month with both.

Good luck OP, I hope it happens soon for you too.

Lookingforadvice123 · 31/05/2019 18:05

First baby, fell pregnant first month. Had been off contraception for 8 months (using withdrawal method) and using Ovia to predict fertile window. DTD every other day during that window. I was 27.

Second baby, second month trying. First month TTC I had only just stopped the pill and didn't work out my fertile window correctly (cycles ended up being 27 days instead of 28), the second month we TTC I'd been off the pill 3 months and tracking ovulation symptoms again so the predicted fertile window was more accurate.

I would definitely recommend using an app to track, and log all symptoms eg discharge. Never used OPKs.

kazwelch · 31/05/2019 18:05

I was 32 with my first son & it took me 3 years to have him & with my second son 6 months & was 35.

Lookingforadvice123 · 31/05/2019 18:05

I was 30 falling pregnant the second time.
