Looks like hand, foot and mouth. Is his skin peeling ?? It definitely needs looking at, it looks very sore.

Crispysausagerolls · 29/05/2019 08:51

Oh my
God really?! I am seeing his doctor but not until 3pm andfor something else - should I go to a walk in now?! It’s not peeling

No I'm sure you are fine to wait but def raise it when you see the doctor.

Poor baby!

Elisheva · 29/05/2019 08:53

Is it under his nail? It looks like he might have a splinter that has got infected. You could show a pharmacist?

SkintAsASkintThing · 29/05/2019 08:53

Can't say for sure but could be.

It won't harm to go to a walk in, finger swellings like that are really painful as the skin is so thin.........Make sure you give Calpol.

Osirus · 29/05/2019 08:54

Doesn’t look like HFM to me. It looks like it’s been trapped or bitten or otherwise traumatised. Good idea to get someone to have a look.

Wolfiefan · 29/05/2019 08:54

Was the nail cut very short? Infection of some sort? Pus rather than blister?

Crispysausagerolls · 29/05/2019 08:55

I can’t see anything in it that indicates a splinter so perhaps he trapped it in a toy or something but he has not cried at all today and does not seem bothered by it! And I am not sure what the green bit in the middle is 😳

Looks like a whitlow

SkintAsASkintThing · 29/05/2019 08:55

Or as mentioned a good pharmacist......... we're lagging behind but some here can diagnose and prescribe. We still haven't got a walk in centre tho. Hmm

floraloctopus · 29/05/2019 08:55

It doesn't look like hfm to me either. Could it have got trapped in a toy or bitten by new teeth?

tired17 · 29/05/2019 08:55

Do they suck that finger/thumb and have they been doing it more recently. Mine had blisters come up on the thumbs she sucked once after a house move which caused her stress

rosie1959 · 29/05/2019 08:55

Nip in and see your chemist they are very helpful and will advise you further

Elisheva · 29/05/2019 08:56

If it was a whitlow he would be in pain.

CharminglyGawky · 29/05/2019 08:56

I also think it's something that's gone under his nail and got an infection. If you are seeing a Dr anyway this afternoon I'd just point it out then.

My DS had hand foot and mouth last year and it didn't look like that, in fact for the first day we thought it was chicken pox!

concernedforthefuture · 29/05/2019 08:57

Looks like it could be a Whitlow, although not totally clear from the photo. If he's well in himself, I would just see the Dr this afternoon. If he has any signs of a temp/ being unwell or if it starts spreading up his hand, then get an earlier appointment.

Arlenia · 29/05/2019 08:58

It just looks like a little infection to me. Nothing serious. On a slightly older child I’d say pop it and squeeze out the pus, but as it’s a baby it may be worth getting it checked, just to be on the safe side.

Elisheva · 29/05/2019 08:58

If it was my first I’d probably have taken him to A&E. If it was number 3 I’d definitely be sticking a needle in it and giving it a squeeze Blush

Crispysausagerolls · 29/05/2019 08:58

He is also generally fussy and runny nose but that’s been since 2 days and this has only just appeared off to google whitlow

That’s an infected finger, my son gets them frequently. You’ll probably need oral antibiotics as it’s quite nasty and red. Fine to wait till three to see GP though I’d say. If he’ll let you, try soaking it in some warm salt water.

redwoodmazza · 29/05/2019 08:59

It looks infected? My son had similar when he was a baby. I sterilised a needle and punctured it! Son didn't flinch, the gunk came out and it healed up within a day.

blackcatclocks · 29/05/2019 08:59

@Elisheva 😂 me too.

Doesn't look anything like hand foot and mouth, you'll be fine to wait until later OP.

Wendingmyway · 29/05/2019 09:04

Definitely not HFM. Infected finger, my youngest DD had three of these a week after being born. It’s no biggie. Might need antibiotics but I never bother for DD.

Crispysausagerolls · 29/05/2019 09:06

I don’t want to drip feed but I’m being extra PFB because he had an operation last week so feeling very protective and concerned about anything containing the word “infection” - not sure I can sit on my hands until 3!!!

Herpetic Whitlow?
Paronychia?

Both easily treated although, if the former, it is caused by the Herpes Simplex virus and so can come back.
