Just that really ...

As obviously it has been used today and it’s grossed me out.

Is this another "Sacred toilet" thread? What the hell are toilets meant for if people cant use them? Confused

And gasp at leaving the seat up! What kind of animals were they?! 😂

Boysey45 · 28/05/2019 19:07

They all stand to wee, I've never know an adult male to sit down and wee.

ALLMYSmellySocks · 28/05/2019 19:07

What on earth do you expect guests to do? You do realise the potential buyers might have travelled a long way or have a string of viewings in one day?

Honeybee85 · 28/05/2019 19:09

Yeah some really mean people here.
Appearently you are ‘akward to deal with’ based on your hygiene standards Hmm.

I am surprised of the akwardness of some people here who think they can judge others caracter based on their opinion about toilet hygiene...

I guess some have real life that they need to act out by attacking others on a public forum just for having a different opinion! I feel sorry for them that online bullying seems their way to deal with it.

Itssosunny · 28/05/2019 19:09

*While evidence suggests that it most certainly is normal to sit down and pee, is it healthy? Yes, and much more so than standing apparently.

According to research from the Leiden University Medical Centre in the Netherlands, sitting down to pee allows for ‘a more favourable urodynamic profile’ [translation: the flow is stronger] which helps ward off prostate problems.

The study goes on to suggest that when we stand, we activate muscles around our lower abdomen, pelvis and spine that actually prevent proper urination.*

If you don't let potential buyers use your loo then you are definitely awkward to deal with. That's not hygiene standards that's being rude and mean - what on earth are they meant to do if they need the loo?

viccat · 28/05/2019 19:11

It could have been the estate agent, not a prospective buyer.

I do understand your thoughts OP in that I hate if someone uses the toilet at my house and leaves a mess. It's just so disrespectful. However, if they just use it and leave it in a clean state afterwards then I can't exactly argue with that, after all I need the toilet at other people's houses sometimes...

LarryGreysonsDoor · 28/05/2019 19:12

I've never know an adult male to sit down and wee.

You don’t know my DH then.
He’s very tall and the toilet in our last house was under a sloped roof. He had no choice but to sit.
He got in the habit of it and still does today.

NoooorthonerMum · 28/05/2019 19:14

OH MY GOD! Literally only on MN would someone clutch their pearls at someone using their toilet and leaving it in a perfectly clean state. What do all these people do when they're visiting someone and need the loo?

RedDogsBeg · 28/05/2019 19:14

The person didn't leave a mess just left the toilet seat up. It's only on MN I find this weird fixation on toilets and the use thereof.

Itssosunny · 28/05/2019 19:14

But why do so many men forget to put the toilet seat down after using the toilet? So the man used OP's toilet but didn't put the lid down. Where are the manners?

BeckyAnnLeeman · 28/05/2019 19:15

Men should pee sitting not only because of hygiene buy also because of the personal health.

Men should sit to pee because they choose to do so, not because some Guardian of Bathroom Hygiene instructs them to. Talk about emasculating. Ick.

OurChristmasMiracle · 28/05/2019 19:15

I would want to flush the toilet and check it wasn’t stained or cracked so yes I would lift the seat.

I wouldn’t want to buy or rent a property where I hadn’t checked plumbing or state of sinks/toilets/inside cupboard/inside oven etc.

EdWinchester · 28/05/2019 19:17

I've never known an adult male to sit down and wee.

It's the rule for my family. Grin

JinglingHellsBells · 28/05/2019 19:18

@Honeybee45 I had to reply to this so I could simply ask about your education of a) male anatomy and b) how men pee.

You say 'some men stand up to pee'.

Errr.....they all do.

Assume you do not know this.

Do you have boys as children? Do you have a partner? Do you have any contact with males? If so, how did you not know men stand up to pee?

@DiamondEye you really need to open that eye of yours...to a whole load of issues.

Men can have prostate issues. Women might have a heavy period. Some viewers might have IBS or bladder issues. It can be a nightmare viewing properties if any of these apply. (Speaking from experience of some of these.)

Have a heart, love, and get a grip as well.

Itssosunny · 28/05/2019 19:18

I've never know an adult male to sit down and wee.
My DH does, his father does but my DF doesn't and as a result leaves the toilet stinky but he is a MAN and will pee standing only. He doesn't clean after himself either as he doesn't see anything wrong with the smell. Some men are skunks .

fairweathercyclist · 28/05/2019 19:18

I'm sort of with the OP on this as I really dislike it when people come into my house, ask to use the loo and then leave the seat up. Just no. Leave it as you found it please.

BUT going to the loo is a medical need so you shouldn't be precious about it.

[removes splinters from bottom]

RedDogsBeg · 28/05/2019 19:19

That is a mystery that will never be solved Itssosunny, although in fairness to my dh he always puts the seat and lid back down.

Roussette · 28/05/2019 19:20

What do all these people do when they're visiting someone and need the loo?

I've asked that already, didn't get an answer. Also what you do with friends who come round to see you, can they use the loo? I would seriously not be friends where I got a whiff of them making me feel like the spawn of satan for wanting a wee in their loo.

fairweathercyclist · 28/05/2019 19:20

All of you people who want to check the loo works in a house. What do you think the current occupiers do?

I understand if the house has been empty for a while (though then the water might be turned off).

But otherwise?

I think using the toilet - as in actually using, rather than just flushing to test the plumbing - on a house viewing is a total no go so no, I dont think you are BU.

JinglingHellsBells · 28/05/2019 19:22

@bmbonanza

So if someone suffers from irritable bladder, or has IBS are they never supposed to view a house?

FGS get real. People have medical conditions or just need the loo!

MeredithGrey1 · 28/05/2019 19:22

We’ve just moved and a few months ago when we were still looking, we did about 8 viewings in a row and I was about 5 months pregnant and needed a wee frequently. I’d have really struggled if I’d not been able to use the loo in any of the houses!

Also, if I’d asked and the estate agent said “sorry, no. The seller has requested no one use the loo” I would assume there was something wrong with it that they didn’t want me to know about.

EdWinchester · 28/05/2019 19:23

I do hope you don't have sons because if this is how you bring them up they will be ridiculed at school in the toilets or when they have only urinals to use.

Grin They can actually do both methods!
