To find Mumsnet to be very Victorian?

I'm not sure if maybe this was always the case and I'm just slow to pick up on it but... AIBU to find Mumsnet very Victorian? It seems like a lot of people post here just to shame others and like to control/dictate behaviour. In a historical context the shame aspect reminds me of the Victorian Era with individuals gossiping amongst neighbours to join in. Flaming the OP for having feelings that are contrary to the majority seems a bit of a sport.

Is Mumsnet the technical modern age answer to Victorian Era levels of propriety and shame? I'm just posting this for discussion of an observation and wondering if this was always the point of this website.

In fairness the op is merrily getting her way,a largely affirmative response
You guys are really knocking yourselves out.

foreverhanging · 22/05/2019 22:50

The one that gets me it's 'why did you have children with him op?' 'Why on earth did you have another baby with this man child?'

well she can't fucking stuff them back up there so it's a pointless dig at the op who is clearly struggling.

Haffiana · 22/05/2019 22:50

Anyways I guess discussions are not allowed here! Apologies.

Post Victorian passive aggressive?

UrsulaPandress · 22/05/2019 22:50

Moan moan moan.

Honestly what is your point?

SaskiaRembrandt · 22/05/2019 22:51

Saskia I know you’re being v silly and feety stampy

Really? You believe 'know' how a complete stranger is behaving? That sounds a little odd - have long you suffered from the delusion that you can describe the behaviour of people you don't know and can't see?

Calltheguards · 22/05/2019 22:52

What way was I supposed to be getting? 🤷‍♀️

Please let me know what this imaginary flame score is when you get a chance. I'm curious.

OP posts:
LipstickHandbagCoffee · 22/05/2019 22:53

Posts Still not deleted Saskia? You cant even manage that
Anyway,no I’m not irked by you. I am Bemused at your irascible posts

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/05/2019 22:56

Many many times.

Grin

I like this^ one. Can we keep her?

Sunshineandeggshells · 22/05/2019 22:56

Not my experience of MN. I have found it supportive, challenging and enlightening. You don't have to be here. Don't like, leave. Simple solution. Your agenda is showing.

jessicawessica · 22/05/2019 22:59

I find myself "watching" a lot of threads but I don't post on them because I know my opposing view will lead me to getting my head kicked in ( in a digital sense).
So I just watch and say nothing.

DHhasahobbyanditsnotcycling · 22/05/2019 22:59

LipstickHandbagCoffee why are you always trying to stir up fights?

You cant even manage that
Anyway,no I’m not irked by you. I am Bemused at your irascible posts

no need to be so goady, it's ridiculously obvious you are just trying to annoy posters, shame they don't take your silly bait.

Calltheguards · 22/05/2019 23:05

😂 my agenda... I guess that agenda includes complementing the people who create informative posts. I really would love to see the imaginary score board and agenda book/manual whenever one of you guys gets a chance to send it over to me.

Anyways there's obviously a group that's a bit sensitive to discussion here, I didn't know... I'm not Mumsnet legit enough I guess Wink have fun with your supposed "troll" hunting, you know whenever someone posts something that you may not like just call them a troll, I guess.

OP posts:
SaskiaRembrandt · 22/05/2019 23:07

LipstickHandbagCoffee did I say you were irked? You seem to be having a conversation with someone who isn't me. I'll let you get on with that Hmm

ElsieGrote · 22/05/2019 23:08

Haven't read the whole thread (shame on me) but what about the - "I drink a gallon of wine a day before breakfast" vs "I think I drank a small glass of sherry 5 or 6 years ago on Xmas"

Followed by many posters confessing to half a glass of Lambrini on their 21st birthday

vasillisa · 22/05/2019 23:09

MN has made me laugh, cry and given me great advice on legal stuff, work and SEN education. Pockets of bitchiness just reflects real life, but many wonderful people on here.

SaskiaRembrandt · 22/05/2019 23:12

DHhasahobbyanditsnotcycling yes, they are obviously goady. I've seen many trolls here over the years and this current crop are disappointing; they don't even have the decency to be humorous.

SaskiaRembrandt · 22/05/2019 23:15

I just noticed the italics - are there a few odd socks floating about?

ElsieGrote · 22/05/2019 23:15

Have just come across a post Victorian thread on showering - how would Victorians cope with showering everyday - surely once a winter was ok for them having been sewn into their underwear in October?

AsGoodAsTinaFey · 22/05/2019 23:16

Not sure about "Victorian" but I see your point. I've only recently rejoined Mumsnet but first came in here almost 12 years ago after DC were born and found that, while there would have been a massive range of people and experiences, those who shouted the loudest exemplified (or pretended to) perfect, conventional picket fence lives and couldn't believe that not everyone had the same. Think it's probably a BIT better now

Calltheguards · 22/05/2019 23:17

Thanks troll... hunters. 🤦‍♀️

To find Mumsnet to be very Victorian?

Calloway · 22/05/2019 23:22

I used italics but am not a sock. Feel free to consult the headmistress' office to confirm.

Oh, ffs Saska - give it a damn rest.

The hysterical troll hunters, who clearly have nothing else to think about, are almost as irritating as the virtue-signallers. Hide the fucking thread - or is that beyond you? So childish.

The pseudo-academics are tiresome too. The Victorians could be very gossipy, of course they could. Look at the way they allowed themselves to be scandalised by sensational court cases that may have had a sexual element...while lapping up every juicy detail. Not much has changed but to sniffily suggest the OP “doesn’t know much about Victorians” is pretentious & irrelevant.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 22/05/2019 23:30

@calltheguards
Your attitude is really unpleasant. I posted at 22.23 and I suggested that you might like to look at other places on this site rather than AIBU. On the basis of 1or 2 posters you've decided that everyone who has responded is a troll hunter.

Calloway · 22/05/2019 23:30

Oh I so agree, joyfullittlehippo.
